Just noticed this thread on here as I don't get on this part of the site much, but a little Illinois info for everyone....
I am originally from the NE Missouri area but have lived in central Illinois most of my life....I'm where the northerners call me a southerner and the southerners probably call me a northerner...Here in central Illinois sweet tea is a must for me...I have a good friend of mine that lives north of me 2.5hrs in Sterling/Rockfalls....I go to visit and hunt with him often and everytime we go out to eat I order sweet tea knowing that they infact do not have it...
Just recently on a visit I ordered a sweet tea and a Horse Shoe the waitress replys "I'm sorry we don't have sweet tea, but we got Rasberry tea". (does anyone really drink rasberry tea?) I said well just bring me a regular tea and a Horse Shoe. With a puzzled look on her face she looks at me and says "what's a Horse Shoe?" I said, " you are kiddin right??" and still she answer " nope" with a laugh....I look across the table at my buddy and his cousin and a couple other coon hunting friends as if she said whats a Waffle House...After a couple moments I too noticed the strange confused looks on everyone elses face as well...And soon my big mouth could no longer keep shut. I started questioning and blurting out "you all don't know what a Horse Shoe is?? they all said NO....There was not one soul in that restuarant that knew what a Horse Shoe was! I was stunned to no end...I told the waitress "hunny this aint gonna work. Does anyone really order rasberry tea?? lol I kinda laughed at her and said no thanks....Well, she could see the disappointment in my face so she brings me a regular tea along with a cup of sugar water/molasses or something along those lines. I couldnt help but smile at her as I sat there at that table lookin like I was def. from out of town...the kind of ora as if nobody picks you to play on their team....Much like the northerners/southerners thing where it seems I am unwanted lol.
