Therein lies part of the problem. A "good dog" is different for eveybody. Everyone has a different definition of what a "good dog" is.

There are certain things that I just can’t tolerate. Barking at air is one of them, another is I live and die by it. 100 on the tree!! For no reason should I back for 25!! I know it’s won a bunch and will continue to win if they know when to do it but I NEVER want one to do that. And he would bark at the air in every cast and slip in for 75,50,25 and that helped him to be the biggest winner of all time. Please don’t get your panties in a wad cause these are facts. I am friends with the guy that made him and the guy that owned him when he died. But the truth is the truth and I tell it. I’ve had the opportunity to hunt with several decent dogs but that’s exactly what they are. DOGS!!! They make mistakes, some a lot more than others

Nothing to Me brother, he jus beat the best night in and night out and I never ever hunted with him but for anyone (NOT YOU JASON) to say he was not a coondog... HAHA ... I'd say that's a man I don't need a dog dealin with. Absolutely BS talk, (THAT'S LIKE SAYING EARNHARDT COULDN'T DRIVE). Even with these big high dollar events they will never beat his record. I'm assuming that in his $230k PKC career and his $80k CHKC CAREER that Ol Meltdown never treed his own coon and backed on everyone he scored on... THAT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.... I WANT 1 JUST IKE HIM.

As far as a COONDOG goes I could show you a female right now, this very night honest strike dog, a powerful 1 way track dog, 1 bark locate, pressure tree dog, and an ever more 90% or higher accurate little female and to make it even sweeter she has a big trackman locate. She quite possibly could be the best I've ever seen, I've been hunting with her since she was 4 months old and she's never looked back and always improves. I don't see how one could improve at her caliber but she absolutely just keeps getting better. Shes a little walker female owned by 1 of my best buddies and he's a die hard English man... money cant buy her. He's 68 and had some great dogs and he'll tell you, she's the best. With all that said, they are out there.

I don't think you are going to get a straight answer to your questions, do you? You know that we are just a bunch of dumb hillbillies that would not know a coondog from a poodle. That's all right, we have some professionals on here that can keep us straight. Lol. Dang it, I learn something new just about everyday, things like the dogs of today are way inferior to yesterday dogs and how sorry the younger generation is. I may learn what a coondog really is if I listen to these pros. Nevermind, that all they do is talk and never really put out any facts, but they have their opinions and that's all that matters to them. Lol. Dave

It's because 90 percent of people have never hunted with a truly dominate hound. They are just hunting with above average hound. Just my personal belief but I have been ruined because I haven't hunted with a good dog in 15 years.

I watched him tree several coons by his self. I’ve yet to put a label of coon dog on any dog I’ve ever seen!! Got one myself that’s won 40-50k I lost count, but he still makes mistakes. Like I said I’ve had the privilege to hunt with the biggest winners into days world, dogs that have sold for 10-32k on a regular basis but they still had holes in my eyes and most of the guys that own and hunt these caliber of dogs all are hard to please that’s why they are the ones you don’t really want to draw. lol

Top Shelf Hounds....
I know where 2 of them are tied side by side in the same yard. I JUST WISH IT WAS MINE!!! Lol.
Big hunting loners with monster mouths and coons when they park. Neither take Un-Necessary minus. Just strike when they smell a coon and tree it. Move like there tails are on fire. Stay treed with the devil himself if he wants to come back them. Definitely the real deal in anyone’s book.
I’ve settled for a piece of junk that trees coons. In my opinion that’s what most people have. 99.9% of these COON DOGS are common as green grass in the summertime. I’ve been in the semi finals of the UKC world won a Breed world championship totaled like 5900 in earnings in just a few months last year with one that’s common as green grass. If someone else had him they would brag him through the roof and sell him for a ton of money. To me he’s just a dog that trees coons. Couldn’t pack a Coon dogs Jock strap to a hunt.

.

I think we look at winning dogs and expect to see top shelf hounds. Not always the case. Kind of like the song. "looking for love in all the wrong places".

Are those two big hunt winners? Is one a World Champion or Platinum Champion? Some dogs are winners and some dogs are real coonhounds, but they are not neccesarily the same.

I owned a world champion platinum champion used him to train a dog that turned out to be better than him. But it's the breaks at the right time that makes the difference. Deacon was high scoring dog of the zones when they were at whitesborro tx on Friday night. Saturday was going to do it again had the cast won big time in the last 5 minutes he backed a little female on a possum somthing he never did. The more you Haul them the more entry's you spend eventually they will win some hunts. Especially those hunts with plan B format.

Neither are world Champions or Platinum Champions. One has been close to both. Night In and night out they are parked through there to themselves with a coon above them. They are as nice as anything you could ever hope to hunt with.
