Im so sick of hearing this! Georgia hasn't held a world hunt in years and by God we deserve one. We made the Winter Classic what it is today. UKC owes so much more to this state. And as far as your dog goes maybe you stay a few more nights and hunt your dog down here til you see a coon. Other dogs treed coons this weekend. Idk why you're on here whining instead of checking your own self. Its the world hunt. IMO the world hunt final casts should be in some of the most beat down worst places to hunt anyone could find. My lab could tree a coon in some places up north. It takes a coon dog to tree a coon down here!

Hoosier man

Don't think you get the point, you don't get to pick where you get to hunt, if you want to participate then you hunt where you are told if not stay home and order you a trophy from your local trophy shop. No one raised hell like this when it was in Louisiana. Guess yall won't come when its near Batesville Ms one year soon I'm sure, they have as good a hunting as anywhere but nobody up north wants to drive more than 2hrs, I guess what it really comes down to is called SELFISHNESS. Not trying to argue with you but to open peoples closed minds. Again the north ain't the only place that people coonhunt. I think that's what everyone is missing. It's not all about you.

I've hunted all over the place. The area they hold the truck hunt at is probably the best hunting in the world. Nice woods and great coon population. The Mississippi delta is a great place to hold a hunt. Now other parts of Mississippi not so much.

Am I missing something, I thought under this format, to advance to the next round, on a 4 dog cast you only needed to beat the other 3 dogs. It doesn't make any difference if you score on 1 coon or 6, if you win your cast you move to the next round. Isn't this the format used to get to the final 3 or 4 dogs?

Maybe no coons were treed because all the dogs dogs had scared owners. Only the sorry dogs with bereaved owners showed up. 😂

The UKC is a business first. When the rules set in place forces a third of the participants away by making them compete in a place like this year then bud you have a recipe for disaster. You can mark this down. Next time it a in a place like it was this year participation will be much worse then it already was this year. No reason for people to drive a thousand miles to chase something that's probably not within hearing.

He's right on this one! A lot of guys were scared they couldn't tree a coon down here and didn't even try (which says volumes of the caliber of dog they hunt).
UKC is a business, a business that receives southern money same as northern money. At least you tried, if I lived in Ohio & had a dog raised and trained in that kind of environment with that many coon I'd probably wouldn't have bothered even qualifying..

I had a good hunt. great guide good judge my only issue was the long drive from home over 1100 miles
we got through the zones and at least made the trip and competed had a good cast and good time while there no complaints on my end sure it was hot but was just as hot back home in Nebraska too thats part of it cant control, weather really couldnt turn out later with a second round to hunt that night as well thinking we all knew that on front side
nice to be able to add another state to the list I have hunted in will try to make to finals again next year
Congrats to all the winners!!

Funny thing is most that cry won't make it or won't try again.

So I am selfish for sticking up for those 8 casts and handlers that couldn't advance due to the poor hunting? Where you even there? I'm suggesting change needs to be made at this high level. A dog can only beat so many odds. Beating the other 3 in your cast should be all that's required after the finalist reached this stage.

Buddy I’m gonna put it like this......

On those 8 casts how many dogs did not make a single bark?
On those 8 casts how many dogs did not make a single tree?

My best guess is all of them made a bark and a tree. If your dog gets struck and you don’t see a Coon then your dog missed. Stop bi*ching and fix your dog. It’s simple really, a dog strikes and trees he/she should have a Coon. If a dog didn’t get struck in those 2 hours then I would agree it’s poor hunting.

UKC should not have to make sure your dog has the opportunity to tree 6 Coon.

Georgia:
DOG A- 450+
DOG B- 300+
DOG C- 200+
DOG D- 100+

Ohio:
DOG A- 900+
DOG B- 600+
DOG C- 400+
DOG D- 200+

Half the Coons still produces the same winners

Down south makes the dog with the least mistake shine rather than one that can make up a deficit

Would you rather have a dog that makes 4 trees with 3 Coon as your world champ or a dog that made 10 trees with 6 Coon your world champ?

Did you make the finals or are you just typing to make yourself feel good? You have yet to comprehend a single point I made. Do yourself and everyone else a favor and re-read my posts.

What kills me is guys find it almost offensive when a cast actually scores on 4 or 5 coon. They act like treeing coon should be next to impossible and that only true world beaters should be able to tree that 1 rough one under the most pitiful of hunting conditions.

This sport is about treeing coon. I feel for the guys in places like Elberton, that may hunt for 2 nights without seeing a coon. I get it. And the UKC has rules set in stone saying you must have plus points to advance. I know that before I even sign up for a hunt. But what happened Thursday when 8 out of 25 casts all go home, things that caused that need to be reviewed.

1st of all congratulations to all the dogs & handlers that did what it took to not only get there but to advance amongst all obstacles !!! I hunted out of Albany Georgia 1 time & I told myself if I would've been born in that area I wouldn't have ever been a coon hunter... Not because I'm a pussy but Bc of the hassle of walking through swamps every night w gators, snakes, wild hogs & whatever other Georgia luxuries you have... Not to mention when I started hunting , coon hides were worth $40-50 in our part of the country (Nebraska)& my dad was a big hide hunter @ the time Bc it was a way of life... (Your coons don't get **** for fur & it would've taken 5 of em to make a good pelt ) . With all that said the north has as tough of hunting as there is in the winter ... I'm gettin tired of these southerners sayin "you have to have a coondog to tree coons down here & not like those woods up north where coons are so thick you have to push em off the tailgate before you cut the dogs." Bring those warm weather hounds for a January hunt up this way & id be willing to bet a lot of them wouldn't get outta the prairie hay in the dog box... I'm not sayin you don't have coondogs down there but what I am saying is a coondog is a coondog ! Doesn't matter where you hunt em they will find a way to push a track to a tree & you will see a coon ! Let's not belittle the people that were there & faced whatever conditions they faced . Maybe the coons weren't movin during hunt time, etc . either way congratulate em & move on . Bottom line : they were there & a lot of you including myself were not ...

Never predict how well the coon is going to be moving a year out. It takes a good dog and a lotta luck to win!

Nothing wrong with scoring on 4-5 coon its a lot of fun and your dog doesn't have to HUNT real hard to have a nice score.
Sounds like a majority of cast treed coon? The causes can be reviewed, but guys will keep breeding & hunting the same kind of dogs. Nothing will change..

Southern guys flip out when they come north and the track grubber gets blew out!

Northern guys flip out when they go south and it exposes their dogs weakness and it looks clueless!

I'm a northern guy.. I realize that most southern hunters would quickly discard my type of hound same as I would theirs! BUT I hunt in the north 99% of the time.. So my type of hound is exactly what I need and enjoy. Same as the southern people need the track grubbing whipeout style of hound.

BUT one thing I think everyone should agree on is a true coondog, the once in a lifetime type of hound, will tree coon no matter what state it's in.. problem is most people have a mediocre hound tied up out back just like I do but are convinced he's the once in a lifetime! Until he goes North or South lol!

I have been there, lol. If Pike, Bell or those other east Ky counties were where I had to hunt I'd give away all my dogs. My hat is off to the guys and girls that hunt that country.

With all do respect there was several dogs from down here that had double cast wins that win in all regestries with plus points against stiff competition and went there and could only come up with one coon a cast maybe not that that tells me knowing those dogs like I do they either had the chittyest hunting in the world or they planned it that way didn't hear of anybody going to those big pecan plantations even here we hunt on this goverment land where the feed is you can tree 3 or 4 coons in 2 hours heck in the zones on Saturday night we seen 16 coons in Texas the Georgia club dropped the ball not taking anything away from our new world champ he defiantly earned it but if the hunting would have been better we might of had a different one this was the world hunt people didn't drive 14 hours to get an ohh well that's the best we can do give me a years notice and I can gaurentee you wont see that happen here 10 miles from winstar world casino 1000's of acres government land its ruff but you will tree coons rain , sleet , dry , or snow but we don't shoot them before a big hunt either.

Oh my goodness, hunting in the Southeast sucks, big surprise. They tried to tell y'all that for the last 3 months. But y'all didn't listen. All you Northern guys said that it didn't matter because your dogs could tree a coon anywhere. How did that work out for you? Southern dogs have an advantage down South. Northern dogs have an advantage up North. That is why they keep moving the hunt around. It gives everyone a chance. Do y'all really think that the Southern guys care that y'all are complaining about their hunting conditions or that you won't be back. Guess what? We complain about the hunting all of the time. But when it gets dark we go right back out. When the going gets tuff, the tuff get going.

Very accurate!

It's nice to see a southern style World Champ! It helps the southern guys find a nice hound. Those northern style World Champs don't look good in the south. I say rotate the World Hunt every year. As whole you will end up with better dogs. These southern guys keep trying to breed to those northern high powered dogs and I spend my hunting time walking to score their slick trees.

Which brings me to the next comment, maybe if those northern dogs wouldn't have been making those slick trees them southern dogs would have had time to score a few more coons. 😎
