Is my math correct here? 8 casts did not score plus points. That's 32 dogs. Having no raccoons makes it show the best dogs out there. The dogs that got lucky to get to the top 100, got weeded out.....out of the UKC top 100 dogs, over 30% of them 'got lucky' and now the tough hunting conditions of the south weeded them out.

Am I understanding the logic here or missing something?

I was there hunting and it ain't the coon treeing that's the problem it's the shining the tree in hedge and briars 8 ft high that kill you. we seen 2 coons all night. And for the ones that says it weeds out all the crap dogs what are you toting to the woods because you weren't there??? I know for a fact we had 3 nice dogs on our cast.

You can't always tell from the score. I talked to a guy that had 725 circle and no minus. His score says zero. I guess that you had to be there to know what it was like. Imagine that.
And another guy said that he didn't understand why everyone was afraid of the armadillos. He said that they were great to get struck on and get your dog throught the the country by himself. He said that he was going to trap some and take them back up North with him.

Thin coon populations make it hard on independent dogs that won't work with other dogs.....

Someone correct me IF I'm wrong (which I'm not) BUT weren't the hunts started to see who had the best dog out of a group of 4? Why else do we reward 100, 75, 50 and 25 for striking then 125, 75, 50 and 25 for treeing. These dogs are SUPPOSE to work together to tree a coon. IF it's just about seeing who can tree the most coon then let's lined them up and when each one strikes give them 100 and then when they tree let's give them all 125 at the end of the night the dog with the most coon wins. Seems simple enough to me.

I like dogs to split tree as much as anyone, but I also like seeing how they stack up against the next dog. No wonder everyone had a first tree dog these days when they all want to be on a seperate tree.

Kinda like watching Bill Jordan, Will Promos, Michael Waddell or Lee & Tiffany hunt deer on TV. They kill some monsters on their private farms with food plots & feeders or at outfitters, but are they good hunters? Who knows you can't really tell. You'd have to drop them on public land with thin deer to find out..

Your absolutely correct Hobo, but have you ever had a local guy that you didn't want to hunt your dog's with because they would screw everything up? For that not to happen your dog has to be able to ignore what his dogs are doing and work through it. Do you know what you get when you have a good dog that can ignore all the BS from other dogs? You have one that ends up by its self all the time.

to funny

i think all these hunters from the south need to get off there high horses. i think it takes a better dog to win in thick coon. dogs cant miss coon and run by em and the dogs that can tree quick coon in a hurry win. u bring those dogs from the south and we will weed out the mediocre dogs standing on there heads cuz they dont know wat to do wit all these thick coon and northern dogs be workin there magic lol.

scores

When I fist saw the Thursday results I thought you gotta be kidding me. After reading some of the posts i'm changing my mind. Yeah if you had a dip $hit for a guide that sucks...but it's your job to end up beating the the other dogs in your cast. I don't care if you got 1200 pts. or 12 1/2...get r done ...move on...good luck.

Have a poll or vote

Here's an idea. UKC could send out a ballet next week, to everyone who hunted in the 2017 UKC World Championship Finals. The Top 100 that entered and hunted.
Have 10 states listed.
Let them vote for next years location.
The State with the most votes wins.

This group of hunters are more likely to hunt in it than anyone else.
I hunted in it a couple years ago. After myself and the 2 other cast members got beat, we were talking about where we'd like it next year. These guys were from down south. They said for sure they would like for it to be up North again, they would gladly drive 9 ours again, because at least they had a chance of winning.
We had treed a few coon, just got beat. They were pretty happy for guys who just got beat.

Independent or not you cant score on coon unless there are coon to score. It sounds like they just weren't moving good for all the casts. And being a Northern hunter its not like some believe there are just coon falling out of trees we have all kinds of hunts where weather and movement and populations affects hunting. I always figured it was easier on a dog where the coon were less, he has one track to deal with. Up here if you get into high coon populations the tracks cross all over, tap trees, grapevines etc it isn't all gravy. LOL It still is nice to tree several on a two or three hr hunt that happens occasionaly but I see both sides. The dogs had to qualify to get there through the zones, but that's coon hunting. And I would welcome any southern hunters to come up for a hunt in God's country, our coon are like little bears and we have plenty cause we don't eat em up here lol.

Dogs are dogs - There's good night's & bad. I saw several cast last night with alot of minus, which tells me they were either missing, leaving trees, or quit barking.
If you follow the big hunts, you will see the same arguments about guides, Judges, location, etc...
Not everyone will be happy.
You don't have to have 800 + every time to win. You don't have to be in thick coon to win or have a good time.
It's takes a combination of luck & skill on both the dog and handlers part to win.

Most of the cast had either circle or minus. That means they must have had a coon track to run...

I've hunted in Ohio and Indiana several times. The coon up there tend to look way more than the coon down here do.

south hunting

I have hunted in the south all my life. I have seen threads where people say if you cant see the coon he probably aint there, well in the south there are a lot of trees you couldn't see a bear in if he were over 8 feet off the ground. It does not matter where you are if the coons are not moving during the hunt time, there will not be many scored.

Hobo listen to them they are telling us old dogs we got to get us some babblen , deep and alone dogs so we can be famous and just before the big Hunts we go shoot all the close coons so it gives us an advantage. And all trees are circled no matter what. And you win a bunch of money with goose eggs that means you got a coon dog and dogs got to be alone to keep from eating each other up you know what that sounds like to me like the time the guy said tar you need to try some of that crack cocain you don't sleep, you don't eat , and you have sex for four hours. I said but I like to eat , I like to sleep, and about 15 minutes is enough for me ..............to each his own.

Seems like to me the proof is in the pudding with the whole north and south thing. Plenty of ppl have seen it it take a coondog to consistently tree coons in these bs swamps and woods so thick a tick cant crawl through. Coons my not have been moving who knows but bottom line is there not getting it done.

So if only 1 cast comes in tonight with a plus point cast win , then they are declared the World Champ?

I've hunted in a lot of states and seen it both ways. I've been in hunts up north and seen low scores like Aughtum Oak this year. I talk to several cast with 100 to 225 plus points. And I've been at hunts up north where you nearly need a second card to put all the coons tree on. Down here in the south at that club I've seen 3 to 5 coons scored. But when there not moving they ain't moving. We do have some thick hunting with briers, privet hedge and 50 acres and bigger swamps. Point I'm trying to make is where ever the world is at there is a time where there just not moving. Looking back at lasts years finale 4 they didn't have much scores if any.
