Not everyone likes a dog like that and it doesnt always happen that way.

Have you ever been beat by a dog that backs some? They can be hard to beat.........

Apparently I need to cull mine if this is the way all good coon dogs do like he said lol. Backing a dog that did a better job and finished a track faster is not wrong. Not in my opinion. While I obviously do not want a "me too" dog I have absolutely no problem with my dog treeing with another dog that mine thinks is right. It is a way to score some of those hard to come by plus points. But to each his own I reckon. But put me in a cast with 3 dogs that will ONLY tree by themselves any night with mine and I would be willing to put some money on that hunt.

I can't imagine why a person would enter a dog that face barks or jacks the tree into a hunt. Why wouldn't you correct these behaviors 1st?

Trust me if you got dog power you don't need to reli on other people's dogs to get those hard to come by plus points. I don't think some people realize how cast go when you have a cast of really nice independent dogs. When this happens when you pull yours off a tree all the other dogs trees are already closed. So going and backing them does you no good. On a coon out of the truck I don't care if mine is there. After that it best recast and do its own thing.

as far as an idiot, I do not take lightly to your insults. You don't know me and I do not know you.. if calling me, a 17 year old young man an idiot for his opinion on something makes you feel good about yourself then have at it.
I didn't mean anything by it, just what I said. As far as me being an idiot, you don't know me, Im not a disrespectful person or a non-humble kid. I'll just keep hunting and keep hunting what I like. You keep getting on the internet and calling people idiots👌 As far as this post I don't have time I have a world hunt in about a week buddy!

you must have forgot your insults? Calling someone you didn't know to fat to follow a hard huntin dog! And yes thinking a dog needs eatin up for covering another is an absolutely retarded opinion. And no it doesn't make me feel good about myself, I know how old you are i knew when I posted my comment. It makes me sick that this is the attitude of a 17 yr. old "young man" the future of our sport!!!! A lot of people make sacrifices for the youth of this sport whether it be time, mentoring, giving away dogs to youth, putting on events, etc. This kind of attitude is a cancer to our sport.

Well I clarified I don't want a me too dog lol. But If a dog gets under some of your coon and one or two of his own coons that usually will win a cast. I don't necessarily like it but that's how it works. Of course I live in Southwest Mississippi and 225 or so usually wins a registered cast. Maybe if It was in thick coons it would be different.

I have a blue English female that's a total dead loner. I mean people use that term real loosely to. She's probably won 150-200 cast. Some with big scores. Trust me if you got dog power, not saying you don't, you don't need to catch a piece of other people's trees. I'm not bragging on her just using as an example. We live in north Alabama. Not a high coon population. We have won all over U.S with her and never took 2nd trees. But yes if there not going to back they can't be jealous. They have to really husle. And they have to have the Rickey when you get to them.

From what I've saw only about maybe 2 to 5% of the dogs in the comp hunts are really mean. Many get excited and face bark and run the tree but to me that's not a big issue. Dogs can back up and tree if they want to. With all that being said I say the hunts are fun and are a good thing but overall they are not as fun sometimes as pleasure hunting. Pleasure hunting is the true backbone of our sport. Just my opinions .

I think alot of dogs that are being bred today are not fully examined before being bred to. Alot of these super nite hunt dogs will run a dog off there tree if they treed the coon and do it quietly. If another dog trees the coon they may tree there without any problems. Its almost like another dog in there food bowl. When i raise pups if i see one growl in the food bowl his chances of living diminish 99 percent. Id say about 5 percent of breeders react this way. Thats not good. It you draw a mean dog 3of 4 nights u have bad luck and it can only get better.

thats crazy lol. Ive heard of more dogs as of late that will take the sleeves off your shirt. Last year a guy got bit in a cast we were in. I know a guy that paid 7500 for a dog and he had to watch so she didnt bite him when he handled her at a tree. Im sorry but if they have to hunt a dog like that its complete stupidity. Ukc should enforce that as a rule. If a dog bites a cast member id say hes interfering with the cast. He should be scratched.

There is a big difference. Etween a mean dog and an intense tree dog that you have too handle a certain way on a tree. Seen several that didn't have a mean hair on them would not fight for anything but when you went too handle them you had too call there name and grab there collar good or you might get mouthed and there is a difference in being bit and a dog mouthing you

I think todays dogs are quite a bit better as far as ill tempered than the late 80's and early 90's . Nite hunts were rough then as far as my experiences . the dogs today that I see blow a little their handlers beat and shock them for covering so when they are covered they blow or leave themselves . I have a deep and lonely coon treerer but he was born that way but he lets my pups cover him but most of the time hes split completely opposite direction than the other dogs . we just completed the Cystic Fibrosis hunt in Atlanta and on the 3 nights I hunted we had 10 solo trees 1 where they all treed together and 1 where 2 dogs treed together . that is the modern tree dog today . I haven't seen an aggressive tree fighter or face barker in 3 years at a hunt although the last was at the winter classic lol. I think more owners cull the mean ones now than in the past . Just keep going to the hunts I bet 99% of your hunts will be fine .

yes your right but if that dog was bred to the wrong female would the offspring be mouthing a little bit harder? Would it be able to control itselt it tougher company? Would that dog be something you would train pups with? How would a male dog like this tree in company after being bred to?Not saying i wouldnt hunt your dog i just wouldnt be looking to breed a female of mine to him just because i know what could happen. They used to call this happy biting. But when a dog gets old and senile it may not be as happy as it once was. I do believe we adapt to the rules of competition hunting. No one likes a dog that wont stay treed when the goin gets tough. But noone likes an alligator either and its a fine line to have the right kind. So any aggressive behavior at an early age is a no go for me.

If 98% of the coon hunters in America were women, we wouldn't have half the problem with mean dogs.

I have a male here at the house that's out of a bloodline that chews jacks the tree and will not get run off a tree even if it means backing up 15-20ft but I've never had him get in a fight because he jacks the tree or chews and I've hunted with dogs that will slap eat another dog alive and he's never got in a fight! And like johny reb said about the dogs bein mouthy you have to call his name and let you know your their or you might get mistaken for a vine and I love everything about him from jacking the tree to chewing! In my opinion if the dog trees coons you can take him to any hunt you want no matter if he's mean or not you as a handler and the dog must learn to adapt to any situation
