My best friend has an honest 27 pounder full mounted. Killed in late 80s in Kentucky. He had it mounted because it was the biggest around here anyone had seen.

I pack a little digital fish scale in the fall for the hell of it. Most of the big one around northeast Iowa are 25 to 30 pounds. Our club has a big coon contest I won it this year with a 31 pounder second place was 25 pounds.

My biggest was 33 pounds, killed off a ranch outside Douglas, Wyoming. We killed 13 that went between 25 and 33 out there that week.
Around here, "Northern Indiana", average for big coon 15 to 18 pounds, 20 is a biggun, 25 wowser!

Big Coon?

I shot one once that I didn't get to weigh but it had to weigh at least 50 lbs cause I took a picture of it and the picture weighed in at 3 lbs! LOL!! Really, the biggest I ever weighed was 23.5 lbs. I caught it here in WV back in the early 80's. Took it to a local market and weighed it on a set of fruit scales. When I lived in IN, I treed a few over 20 lbs. but the biggest was 23 lbs. I saw one at a place where I sold my fur in IN that was 36 lbs. but it was from MI. I believe you could have stretched that thing on an ironing board! Its tail looked as big around as a soft ball.

Biggest I have killed was 28 1/2 lbs.
We killed 2- 26 lbs. boars out of a huge oak in early season, they looked like littermates, around 2003.
All of these coon were weighed on a deer check-in scale, my old hunting buddy lived next door to a check-in station.
Around here 20 lbs. is a big coon,25 lbs. is huge.

I killed 1 a little over 27 pds. in the 80's and 1 the same size in the mid 90's and a bunch 20+ over the years. I would be afraid a 40 pder would kill my dog lol

Biggest Coon

The biggest coon I've killed and weighed would be from 22-25 Lbs. That's a monster coon in our territory.

Years ago a couple guys from here made a hunting trip to Minnesota. I remember hearing about the 40-50 lb. coon up there.

I saw one around here that supposedly weighed over 50 (biggest coon I've seen). But, it was a pet coon. Based on this, I could see how some city garbage can coon could reach 50+.

Around here, 18+ is a big coon, and 14+ is a nice sized coon.

That big sucker is a Wisconsin coon. And yes, a couple of Redbones treed him. He was a long and lean 30 pounder.

biggest i ever weighed on a scale was 38 lbs after hanging 3 days. i shot a 37 lber the year before. biggest i ever shot i never weighed because i could only carry him about 75 yards and i was beat, and that was when i was strong from working construction. skinned him and held his nose even with my eyes and his but touched the ground with his tail laying flat. im 5'10" tall. he was huge. saw a picture that the fur buyer had of one that was living under a car in a town and the pic said it weighed 58 lbs.

24 lb, 15 oz. On digital meat scale. Killed a few 20 lb coons, 2 in one night about 100 yards apart on a cold ( for here) December night. Most Mississippi Delta coon are much smaller. Good post, Jr. Steelman.

A 25 pound coon is a whopper no matter where you are.

I've treed a few coon in my life, in some different places.

That's a big coon anywhere.
