Absolutely. I agree 100% that you have to see it to know. Heck pups mouth an ear or whatever but they aren't fighting. Yes you do have to see to determine what went on. We can't pass judgement sitting here on a computer because of all the variables.

You're absolutely right. About all a person can hope for is an honest judge that knows the rules. I think Allen has said that a judge can scratch a dog without seeing if he or she can determine the aggressor. That would be very difficult in my opinion.

Almost Dave.

If you have an obvious dog fight but don't see the fight, you have the authority to scratch the dogs involved, if you can determine who is involved. In this case you probably wouldn't be able to determine the aggressor because you didn't see who the aggressor was. Therefore, scratch the dogs involved.

This reminds me of the last RQE I hunted. I had a pretty intense dog. Well...we unsnapped and they all ran about 75 yards and fell treed. we heard a little friction and went in. My dog was facebarking then. (He wasn't involved in whatever happened before. I guess his mind was blown. He was treeing before we arrived) Anyway..he was scratched for attempting to fight even though he had not interfered with any other dog. To be honest; I would have scratched him regardless. Just not for the offense.
Back to the story... The judge went to telling me how to get back to the clubhouse. I told him I was staying with the cast because I wasn't sure the right dog was scratched and I KNEW not enough were. And so we carried on. About 30 minutes before the cast was over; 2 of the remaining dogs ROLLED. they didn't growl, facebark or anything else. They just tied up fighting. There was absolutely no doubt which 2 dogs it was because mine was in the truck and the 3rd dog was in sight. And now I owe the man with the Sam dog a personal apology. I went home thinking he was rough and come to find out; it was a female that thought she could whip Mike Tyson. Might could have too. I drew her again a month later when I judged a Nite Ch. cast.
