I have never researched using dog feces as fertilizer. Using broiler house chicken litter, laying house litter, human bio - solids and bovine feces is a source of soil nutrients needed for plant growth. One issue that should be considered is application rate and time of application. A garden that is 30 feet by 100 feet is 14.5 times smaller than one acre. A normal application rate of two tons of poultry litter per acre. Broiler litter normally has an analysis of 60 N, 70 P, 40 K per ton. You apply one ton to your 3000 Sq ft garden you have just applied over 800 N, 1000 P, 500 K per acre equivalent. Enough P and K for several years of 200 bu. corn yields. Now 800 lbs of nitrogen per acre will burn your garden up. What ever source of organic fertilizer you choose have it tested for nutrient levels and apply the correct amount. Soil test garden areas. Most long time garden areas are high organic matter (OM)which is good, high in P & K. Each per cent OM will contribute approximately 20 lbs of nitrogen through mineralization. Four to five percent OM is common for gardens. Phosphorus levels above 30 ppm is unnecessary. I'm tired

Dog crap grows some nice redworms. I dig them behind the kennel where it stays damp from washing it out. Also will break you from biting your nails.

Do not use dog crap for gardening. There is to many parasites that can be transmitted to you and your family from working in the garden

Don't use dog crap on your garden, might get parasites. Instead use chicken manure, horse manure, cow manure or sheep or goat manure because they don't have parasites. Wonder why they sell wormer for all these other critters?
Think I'll keep eating my dog crap tomatoes. The Ivermectin I take for Covid protection should take care of that too.

If using organic fertilizer on your garden gives you worms then commercial fertilizer made from petroleum products should give you gas.

It is really not just about the parasites that may be found in dog waste as those can be found in any mammals faces in various forms. It is the difference in the diet of carnivores vs herbivores. Cows, horses, chickens ect ect eat a plant based diet therefore the nutrients put into the soil actually fertilize. Dog faces is extremely high in protein and is acidic it also contains bacteria that will not be found in an herbivore diet. If properly composted for a year it could be used on trees, flowers and shrubs but depending on your soils needs. Fertilizer is meant to put nutrients back into to your soil to help plant growth which makes waste from dogs or other carnivores/omnivores not the best option and if not properly composted before use can be dangerous for the gardeners health and not good for your plants because of it's high acid concentration.

not supposed to use manure from any carnivore for fertilizing. It has to do with bacteria like Jen/Chey said.

NEWS UPDATE... Just got a call from Oklahoma telling me what a bunch of big dummies ya'll are. Said a pig will eat both meat and grasses and grains same as a dog. Said the tumblebugs get the biggest part of his dog crap but the garden gets the rest and it's never hurt him or his garden. Also said big cities are recycling their sewage water and selling it back to the people, the reason for all the bleach in the water. Said the bleach water is harder on the garden than the dog crap.
Guess I'd better not disclose where I get my valuable information but I'll keep you informed as it comes in!

This post is cracking me up. It is recycled from 6 years ago . But since everyone is chiming in I use chicken poop and they will eat anything. My grandpa used all kinds of manure and said to always leave it in the field for the sun light to disinfect it before plowing it under. I seldom trust so called experts and much perfer common sense and experience.

There is many dog foods that should make good fertilizer. Just spread in your garden instead of running it through your dog first! LOL!

V Cannon. What come first. The chicken or the indian?

Why didn't indians have huge flocks of chickens? OK one buffalo equals a flock of chickens. But Buffalo's don't lay eggs.

It doesn’t matter which feed you give the dog.
It’s all about the manure analysis that you have.
Once get analysis it just like any other manure. You take #’s of nutrients of N, P,K and micros and balance your fertility for the crop just like any other manure.
If to high in P that’s gonna lock up Zinc, if get to much K then your CA levels going into fruit can be blocked.
Start with an analysis if serious about building a fertility program around dog crap.

Native Indians were by the most part nomadic so their use of fertilize would have been limited in use but there’s evidence that fish scraps was used in some cultures.

Domesticated chickens wasn’t available to the Indians and chickens aren’t native so their use would have been impossible.
