In cattle they super ovulate the cow and then use two breedings of semen to inseminate the eggs in the cow. They then pull the embryos out and grade them. The number ones are the best and they usually get between five and ten good embryos per flush. They will flush a cow ever couple months when they are trying to collect a bunch of breedings. I would think the science should almost be there for dogs. It's really not much different unless dog embryos won't stay viable once froze for one reason or another. That would be a big step for keeping bloodlines around for years to come.

I agree that the female is probably the bigger player in a litter of pups. Also, a stud can produce a huge number of puppies but the female is limited to maybe 8 litters. So if she is a great dog, the reduced number makes each one more valuable.

Female

The fact of life is it takes a male dog and a female, to even have a litter of pups, the female's line, going back several generations, probably, has more to do than with the pups in that litter, makeing exceptional coon hounds, than the male's line. If you don't beleive that just look, at the generations, behind the stud dogs, that are proven reproducers, and look at the females, line. You might even, find the same reproducers, have some of the same names, behind them. The old fox hound breeders, use to look back 5 to 7 generations, before breeding their dogs. There have been a few males and females, that you could breed a collie to, and get coon dogs.

Ive only raised a few litters in my lifetime so i don't have near the experience as y'all but one sweet thing about owning a female with the way fees are now is that you have a choice and possibility to breed her to whichever stud you desire as long as you have the money to cover the stud fee. If you start charging a fee to the stud owner your choices are bound to trickle down to very few studs. I see where you're coming from though! I think it would deff create more selective breedings which is bound to help our breed in the long run but i believe there is a fine line where the fees have to stop, the owner of the female is normally going to make some money back with pup sales and there profit will usually be greater then what the stud owner makes off of a stud fee.

Now if technology improves and eggs become possible to freeze then yes, sale eggs for large amounts of money if people are wanting to raise a litter themselves from your proven female. I think good eggs from a proven reproducing female would be just as important if not more valuable than a proven studs semen.

You must have an excellant female and an excellant male to get good pups. So, if you are talking about the "fair" way to do it then the stud owner and female owner should split the proceeds from the pups. If the female raises 6 pups and they are sold for $500 each then the stud owner should get $1,500 as a stud fee. Is it fair for the stud owner to get $300 and the female owner to get $2,700? And now some are proposing that the stud owner even pay the female owner to breed her to his stud. Doesn't anyone else see anything wrong with this?

you must think real high of a stud dog , the only way what you are saying would work is if you partnered the two and split the cost because the stud owner would be out nothing and the female owner would be out the full cost of everything involved in raising the pups to weaning age , how did you come up with that theory of yours ..

Like all of my "theories", I made it up. It made about as much cents to me as the stud owner paying the female owner to breed to his stud.

The only fair way is: 90% of pup sales goes to the registry, the remaining 10% goes to the owner of sire and dam as well as every member of the breed association.
