Made 4 trees tonight. First drop he hunted a long ways before treeing across the river. I couldn't find a safe way across so I had to call him off. Before we left he treed a layup single. New spot, treed a short track with a single and seen a couple more sitting out nearby. Cut him loose again, got struck quick, ran a few hundred yards and treed a double. Much better hunting than Saturday night.

finally got em

Cut old dog on public ground I hunted before season came in. When the leaves were in I treed twice on a big viney tree in the middle of a thick briar patch. Tonight she made short work of the track and ended on that same tree. I shined for a while be for I found the big boar looking straight up hugging the back side. I went to shoot and I hit him and instantly realized it wasent a good shot I few shots later I realized my gun was off.if I wouldent have hit him first I would have left him when I realized rifle was off. Since gun was off(must have bumped scope) I called it a night but it was kind of a cool coon to tree.

Speck

I have found out the last 2 nights that Speck will get out and go! Put her in some not so great woods that are thin in coon to see how hard she would hunt. I don't think I need to worry about the desire to hunt the little girl made this old guy go round her up. Just no tracks at all where I put her, the plan was good but the outcome was not as much fun as I thought! LOL Watch what you wish for...

only been out twice, last week turned him out in public ground, got in there 974 yds. on a den, turned back out and he treed next time 835 with a big boar, turned him to a small patch and he blew through it and got struck and treed next to a building just about a mile away, got him out of there fast. Have not been hunting, just gets boring going all the time by myself, maybe next week i'll hit it alittle harder.

Havent Heard Another Hound Yet!

Boy this thread is non active this year. I have been hunting a good bit for an older guy I feel. Been some nights a lot better than others but still getting some trees on the bad nights. Been treeing a bunch of coon with theses 2 young dogs of mine when they each get there turn to go. The moonlit frosty nights were the tough ones for me but we went any way. Had one deer race so far but got to correct her for that. Took Hook out last on the 27th and he made 5 trees 2 coon seen 2 dens and 1 empty. Here is a short video of him on that night at 18 months.

Still No Other Hounds Heard!

I went on the 28th with a good friend of mine Bill and his buddy Tommy. I took Speck she is Hooks littermate. First drop on public hunting ended with Ol Jake, Bills dog, going toward the road and Speck ending up in the marsh at the end of the lake so we rounded them up and went for another drop elsewhere. Third time in that woods and still haven't done anything to amount to much. The second woods was somewhat better. First track ended in a horse barn and that could have ended bad but we got them out of there ok. After that it was non stop action with a couple split trees, a couple dens, and a couple trees together. We looked at 7 coon total. All but 1 track seemed like was old laid up coon. Very little mouth out of 2 open track dogs. Both dogs had coons in the split trees. Need to do some homework on getting Speck to come into the tone better and also introduce her to live stock. It was a great time with some good friends. Hope to get Hook into the woods tonight!

The other night went hunting with a buddy I don't ever see do to work. We dropped one time and the old dog ran one into a den over the river. On the second drop she struck and ran one red hot and rolled up treed. While walking to her she went quite. We went to where we last heard her and realized she was underground! In a hole I sure couldent fit in lol. Long story short after trying to get her out (mind you we couldent even see her) for about 20 mins her came the coon out of another hole and the chase was back on coon b lined for a big snapped of den tree. Big smart coon.

coon moving late?

I've been hunting a handful of spots a lot. I hunt early.
It seems like the coon have quit running early, maybe to avoid me? Do you think they may have changed their pattern?

I have been having good hunts for the most part. Treeing coon most every night. I have had a dog in the woods 5 nights straight and have treed coon. Some real nice weather for this time of year.
