By the way, the UKC World Champion can not be a me too dog. He/She has to tree a coon by themselves, during the second round of the hunt, with a non-hunting judge present. Some no other registry requires. Could it be the me too's are winning the other hunt titles? interesting huh?

I hate to play tennis against a blind guy. Every now and then he hears the ball coming and hits a winner. Everybody knows he can't see the ball, but he still wins a point. That's about what this thread sounds like.

You honestly think, making a dog a GR NT is harder to do than say......making one a Silver Champion?

You can't "pitch" a dog for a first strike or tree... so as long as you have the better dog you should always be able to beat the ones "pitching" there's on your dogs strike and tree.

You can hunt a greyhound that is willing to chase a coon up a tree, and it doesn't make it a better "coon dog", just because it got "deep and alone".

And I'm speaking from experience... I have one of those deep and alone dogs, and that's the trait I dislike the most about him!

Like I said, thankfully there is registry for people that like to hunt a dog that likes to hunt in a pack. It's just not for me

There are other registries out there that cater to what you want. Why is it everyone is always trying to get ukc to change their rules to be more like the other guy? You don't see the ukc crowd going over to the other boards trying to get them to cater to ukc hunt rules.

Maybe JUST MAYBE everyone realizes that UKC'S title still carries more prestige than the other ones that are out there and they want to change the rules so their type of dog can win in ukc?

AGREED 100 PERCENT HOBO.

Yea, all you have to do is win about 40 casts with circle and minus points and it's all yours. Piece of cake, I'm surprised more people dont do it

I would say the percentages on this post are fairly accurate across the board. Most handlers are honest, and want an honest win. There will always be a few that will do what they have to do to to win..no matter what.

I have found this thread very interesting. I think we all agree that a good coon hound will win it's fair share regardless of the registry it is hunting in or the rules that are being used to score the hunt. I suppose we all have our own opinion about what titles earned are the most prestigious.

I believe last years UKC World Champion recently participated in the Russ Meyer invitational. Competing three nights in Missouri without winning a cast. I'm not in any way saying that this dog is not a fine hound and deserving of the titles it has earned. But you would think the dog winning the most prestigious title in the coon hunting world should have done better at this hunt.

The thing that impresses me the most about a hound is it's ability to win regardless of the geography or climate it is hunting in. One that can win deep and alone in Georgia but also be able to put on a coon treeing clinic in Northern Indiana or Southern Michigan.

Titles in all the registries are prestigious and difficult to obtain. The real good ones will most likely hunt and have titles in multiple KC's.

I'm checking the yes box on the original question.
