Been doing it for the last two weeks and treeing coon almost every night. I am one of those guys that weather does not stop me from hunting. I know what a real track dog is. Problem is, most people cull them before they know what they got because many of the real track dogs are a little slower about becoming a tree dog. Personally, I like a dog a little slower to make a tree dog. They are more accurate than the solid as a rock tree dogs at 8 months old. At least most of the time, lol. JMO

My favorite is Old Blood

Cold to medium nosed honest strike dogs and the brains to use it, one that can drift out and run to catch, lots of determination, accurate. do this alone or with company. And they look to please me. But I do like one that has all this and can get alone and hold lots of pressure every night.
(With luck! will have a few more in the near future)

you do not know how bad I miss going hunting I have only hunted 2 times this year and paid for it with pain 3 or 4 days after, but if the good lord is willing I hope to be back at it come spring.
hunting like that lets you know what type of hound you are feeding/

Ok here's my two cents Grand nite champ Nicholas Creek Revelee got a lot of his wins treeing the only coons seen in cast , not over there a mile treeing old tracks in cast of 4 other dogs that never knew coon where there , they might be one or two around and come into the tree but never open , they couldn't smell it ... And the next drop I've had first and first on a coon inside the min . So don't tell me a cold nose dog is always a cold nose dog ! If anyone wants a hound that fits this bill u should call Mr Daivd Morgan of Texas a call his dog has already proven to me he can reproduce this type of hound out of limited breeding , something to remember is a massive number of hunts are won by 225 or less coons don't move good every night if u got a dog that can work what ever tracks are available that night u stand a higher chance of winning

Stevendale

There are a few dogs that just have the ability & brains to somehow come up w/ a coon no matter what the conditions while others dogs are just jacking a track & having all kinds of trouble. These type of dogs are very hard to come by as you can't teach it, there born w/ it!! Charlie R.

Amen !!! Coon dog it's real simple and I agree there are very few hounds out there that can reproduce this type of dog !!! A stud can only do his part if the female is worthless

Skip. I feel for you buddy. It would drive me crazy if I could not hunt. Hope things get better for you.

I was discussing this very subject the other day with an old hound hunter in his 80's. He said that the noses are still there, the dogs bred nowadays just dont have the brains to use that nose. I would say in my opinion, for the most part, he hit the nail on the head.
