There ase some good reports starting to trickle in on pups out of Mann. It sure validates breeding him to a good female when reports come in telling you "when can I get another?"
Now I just need some good weather to put a couple pups out of Mann in the woods. I need to finalize which one I want to keep and let someone else enjoy the other.
I did pay Mann up for the 2015 Performance program. I also have sent in the papers for both male pups I have to be elgible for the PP.

Daniel,
I know exactly what you mean when people call wanting more because they are happy with what they got the first or second time.
Mann is a good hound with good blood to back him up.
Keep up the good work
Good luck in choosing the right pup. I'm sure both will make fine hounds.

Took Witch and 6 month old dark headed pup out of Mann hunting last night. First drop the pup struck first at about 100 yards, him and Witch drove the track in about 450 yds and fell treed on a den. I stayed in the same ditch and Witch struck about 200 yards down the creek. Witch and pup pushed the track across cornfield down into holler. Pup split from Witch wanting to push his own track. Witch fell treed on a huge Oak. As I was tieing her and the pup up I noticed a deceased coon at the base of the tree (not a good sign). So I looked the massive tree over and I did find a huge sow on the outside of the hollow tree. Made one more dump, both hounds struck and split on their own tracks. Witch fell treed in a brushpile while pup wanted to try and move a cold track in cornfield. By the time I was able to dig Witch out of a narly brushpile I was done. I waited on the pup and decided to catch him. He was having a very hard time with the cold track. I will say once these two males gain more experience on how to use the noses they have. I beleive both will make hounds for sure. Back at it tonight!

This is the dark pup you hunted or the light one. Sounds like they have a mind of their own for sure. Going to be some coon striking track driving males for sure.
Witch is getting it done.

Yeah Elmo this was the dark colored male this go around. Yes. they do have minds of their own and have no problem tackling their own track. I think you are correct ont he stricking and tracking...now I just need the treeing portion to factor in All in due time in the woods. I have been rotating the pups with a older dog the past few weeks. Hopefully by the end of season I will have plenty of time in the woods for them to bank on. I like working with these young hounds, just kinda keeps the coon ticker going strong!

Took by boys hunting Friday and Saturday night since the weather has been mild. We had some good hunts. We ended up treeing 5 total Friday night and another 4 on Saturday evening. Good times!

Daniel

You and your boys are coon slayers. Great picture and they enjoy it as much as you do.
Memories are worth it all.
Who did you take?

Elmo, on Friday night I took Mann and the lighter 6 month old pup on the first couple dumps. The hounds treed three in 1.5 hours so we decided to switch out hounds. So we came home refueled and grabbed Ditch Witch and the dark headed pup, we ended up treeing two more singles on Friday. Saturday we did the same thing, I just switched pups.

Witch treed like she likes to get treed. If she can find a perch she will.

Well going to run hounds hard over the weekend. Haven't been the last few nights due to finishing up on smoking deer summer sausage and jerky. It has killed me as well, the nights have been perfect. Hopefully tonight will produce some coon hound work.

Ended up taken Mann and Ditch Witch with a buddy that had some ground he wanted to run hounds on. We ended up dumping three times in that section and treed three large coons. We ended up going to another spot and caught the hounds trying to cross a high wooven wire fence were the coon went through. The next dump they grubbed a cold track out and went a little over a mile. I ended up catching them on a frozen pond bank. You could see where the coon had crossed. I did not want a hound possibly falling through so we ended that event. On my 30 minute trip home, I ran across a spot I had not been in for many years. So I dumped one more time and the hounds did a bang up job on a very large boar.

Saturday night my two boys and I were home alone so we decided to dump Witch and my 6 month old Stormy Junior pup (Cooter). The pup struck first followed by Witch. Witch pretty much took the track away from the pup and slammed a big boar about 250yds in. Tied the two hounds up, did a little pup training on the tree and rolled the masked bandit out. I think I might have a kill dog in the making if he doesn't turn out for anything else Cooter grabbed the big boar by the throat and did not let go until I was able to pry him off. The boys and I made one more dump in the same ditch, ended up treeing in a large maple den. I could tell my little men were getting tired so we headed home for the evening. Last week of season, plan on hitting it every night if all possible. Everyone be safe out there!

Great job Daniel and the boys

Which one is Cooter. Stormy Jr has big shoes to fill with that name tag.
I'm going to go up and hunt with Buck a male off Magic. Might bring him home it he what I think he is doing. Time will tell.
Are your pups starting to get more tree minded? They are coon strikers for sure.

Elmo the pup I am calling "Cooter" is the lighter one of the two. His size and mouth reminds me of his great grand-sire. Yes both these pups have started to look up.

Junior I sure plan on it! The boys and I went last Friday night. Took Witch and Cooter. Struck and drove a nice running track about 500 yards. Witch fell treed on a pond bank, the pup was tracking a little further away when something went wrong. I noticed the pup about 40 yards behind Witch staring at me and not moving? After further investigation the pup had fell through the ice and was hanging on the edge for dear life! So I tested the edge of the ice and broke through cleanly. So it was now or drown sort to speak. So as the boys watched me from the bank I took a stick and broke ice until I reached the pup. Thank goodness the pond was shallow and I only waded water up to my belly button before reaching the pup. Now that was a cold rescue session. My froglegs were full and my man hood was for sure hibernating Glad it wasnt any deeper or the pup would have turned into a popcicle. I couldnt have tried that in deep water, to dangerous and especially having my two sons with me. Well I did manage to dump my boots and shine Witch's tree. She had two nice dry coons up the tree. So I pat her head and told the boys lets hurry to the house so I could warm up.

Well the hounds and I were able to get out Satruday night and tree a couple "snow coons". Wow the hounds had a lot of penned up energy! But Mann and Witch both did a fine job at treeing a coon on their own in the snow. I know it isn't a time to really take a young pup. But I did manage to take a pup with each older hound. I was impressed with their williness to hunt in the snow for the first time in their short life. These boys are going to make hounds, my gut just says so. Anyone that has been at this long enough knows what I mean!

Well I moved one of my the two males I picked out out of Mann and Dixie yesterday. Skeeter will be headed to his new home in the upper NorthEast Iowa/Dakota border area. Skeeter will be finished out and hunted with his half sister out of Mann's first litter. The gentlemen really likes what the female out of Mann has to offer. He wanted something else out of him. We are hoping that Skeeter will show him the same qualities, if not more in the months and years to follow. My boys were really tore up last night when I told them Skeeter was going to a new home. They wanted to keep both Cooter and Skeeter. Boy, didn't that just pull on my heart strings coming from a seven and five year old I wish Skeeter and his new owner " the best of luck and happy hunting", I really feel he is getting a hold of a nice young hound.) Now I can solely focus in on finishing Witch out in the hunts and hunting my other Mann pup "Stormy JR./Cooter".

I do plan on hitting quite a few hunts for sure before the leaves come on strong. Boy my hounds are packing on extra weight since not hunitng much over the past few weeks. Kinda feel bad not feeding them much when so cold out. Oh well it wont take long to burn off. Joe we will see ya for sure fella, hang in there the dirt will start thawing enough before long. You will be able to play more then

Our local club in Marshall, Mo will be hosting a two night hunt this coming weekend. Friday night hunt and show and Saturday show and hunt can possibly qualify your hound for the world hunt. I plan on hunting a hound on Friday and Saturday night. We have plenty of coons to share

Well hunted my Ditch Witch Female for her second ever hunt. We had a good cast Friday night and scored on 7 coons. Witch did a nice job split treeing, holding pressure and also getting a piece of others trees when needed. It was good enough to bring in 900+/200 circle and no minus. Andy Brotherton from across the river had a nice male that was tied with Witch pretty much all night until the last dump. Lady luck just fell our way more Firday night! Hopefully that will fire me up to take Witch to some hunts, she is deserving of a title and had been deserving since she was a pup.
Now Saturday night a different story: I brought Mann out for a go in the RQE. Sad to say he just did not look very good on this particular night. He was a little slow on Striking and treeing on a couple dumps. He split treed twice and had dens, he actually left a tree after 4 mintues being there...not sure what got into him on that one! Also to top it off on the very last dump he backed a hound on a empty. I about fell over, I am not sure of the last time he has even remotely wanted to tree on a slick. I could tell he wasnt sure but he just wouldn't leave. Had a nice cast with some nice hounds that did some pretty work. I will be pushing him more in the timber to make sure he is on his "A" game come the next shot at qualifying.

Congrats to Shawn Davis on his 2nd place win on his nice male dog Jessup. Congrat's to Hank Taber for finishing his Sugar female to Nite Ch. and congrats to the gentlmen from Marshfield and his walker female "DOT" that won our RQE cast. She deserved the first place win.
