Don't let it have a negative effect. I enjoyed your questions and found much of the input to be informative. You are going about things the right way. When I started in 2008 I wanted to know the same things. If you are in to the competition part just watch what is consistently producing winners. There are several to choose from and the two you inquired about are certainly in the group. I have had a blast with our hounds and a few negative words are not gong to change our goals. Just identify your style of hound and figure out who is producing that style consistently. Thanks and good luck. Lance

Even if coons are thick, a dog still has to tree them. I have witnessed first hand on more than one occasion, that is much easier said than done.

Always too many bablers that dont have enough first hand experience to give an honest opinion about what others are hunting saying something negative and ruining a mans thread. These are two of the most winning lines of blueticks there is. I dont know why anyone would want to hunt a bluetick with all the negativity and school girl drama that disrespectful people within the breed give out. Its flat sickening that folks cant ask questions on this board without childish, rude, and jealous comments being made. This is not how to represent our breed and sure isnt how a man should conduct himself.

To the man that started this thread, im sure sorry that this has turned out in an ugly fashion. Dont let what the people that dont hunt either line of dogs say keep you from trying one. Both have proven to be winners! There are good and bad in every line of hounds period.

mouth (tight, loose, just right)
how far out do they hunt BY THEMSELVES

how they do with tracks in thick cutover or briar patches

trailing type or run to catch

You are more than welcome to come stay a few days and hunt with some of these dogs if you like. Im sure i can get some of the Mad Dog hounds here at the same time for you to see.

I think the blue breed has lots of people that are out spoken and are quick to say how they feel or what they think and they really don't care what other people think those types of people are quick to speak up and give there opinion when they see someone making statements they know are not truthful so when they do this it ruffles the feathers of those not being honest in there ways

I get a kick outa when a question is asked its all good to blow stuff up and tell the world how great it is but your a horrible person hurting the breed if you tell it how it really is! I'm hear to tell you I don't sugar coat anything and anybody that knows me also knows I tell it how it is with my dogs!

If your gonna push your dogs on every post better be prepared for the truth from people because it's gonna come out!

Some don't like the truth and I apoligize to you!
I also don't see where any line of dogs are being bashed! I've just read where some have posted there experiences with some lines..I guess this board is just for blowing smoke up peoples back sides!

I'm curious where this breed will go if the truth is ALLWAYS sugar coated?

Maybe we need to start giving out participation trophys at all hunts to so nobody gets butt hurt?

All summer I've been hunting a young female that just turned 2 out of Mad Dog the Coon Wacker and a Grand Nite out of Wild and Blue Chief with a bunch of Spanky on the bottom side of pedigree

She is chop on track-100 bpm on track 110bpm on tree with a locate so hard to call that it is easily missed especially with other dogs.

I have only hunted her with 3 other dogs since I hunt mostly by myself. 1 dog is almost silent and 1 is a walker out of Trackman and Rat Attack. She will always get 1st strike in that company.

She can move a track good. Maybe above average

She has some winding ability

By herself she is a little slow to range out over a couple hundred yds.

I would call her a run to catch type dog not a trailing type

Action packed

She is about a 40lb dog

When she is treed she is staying. Right or wrong.

Last night she went about 350 yds got struck got treed at 997 yds. Stayed treed for almost 2 hours in the rain until we got to her

Personally I hunt Echo bred hounds they are well balanced dogs that tree coon are they perfect not by far but are they consistent YES I was a walker man for years but hunted with Troy for many years and swapped to this line because I felt they had to offer what I wanted treeing real live coon and doing it rite!! As for the Mad Dog line I've had a few and their simply NOT for me saying that I do like the Sid dog and what he throws from what I've seen, but proven fact the one who beats his drum the loudest usually does it because him and select few only beat it and no ones else as for the man that stays quiet and let's his line of dogs beat it for him usually has more to offer!Everyone likes tree dogs but my opinion a dog has to have a track to get treed (most of the time unless their exceptional layup dogs) but if your breeding for tree dogs first your probably not gonna get much accuracy in the end JMO not trying to ruffle any feathers just being honest!

To answer the question of this thread the Echo dogs have tons of dive alone or with company, some of them are faster than others and some have been known to run to catch, the biggest portion of them do have big mouth, they do tree real live coon not just trees.

Traits hunters like.

Many of us like different traits. Every hound is different and unique to some degree. If the goal is competition many different style hounds can compete and be successful. I would think we all would like to have traits in our hounds we believe gives us a chance to win no matter where we are in the country. That's where many of us will differ in opinion. The key is identifying the style of hound we like and getting one with those traits. Good luck to each at locating your style of hounds.

I agree Lance!!! Jesse, good post!! I just wonder how much these "men" would agree or disagree in person? lol All my huntin buddies know better then to brag on there dogs around me lol

Interesting point. There is nothing wrong with agreeing to disagree. It seems for some reason that on this fine internet/message board, disagreements are blown out of proportion, or made out to be much more than what they would be in person.

As has already been mentioned, there are good ones & culls with all of them. No matter what the cross/the strain/the bloodline, the cold hard fact is they all are not going to make it. Even of the ones that do make something, a very small percentage of those make above average hounds, & even smaller percentage make the exceptional ones. It is not realistic to expect or try to convince someone to believe otherwise.

I respect & appreciate the folks who are just as quick to tell you their dogs weaknesses or things that they would change about them as well as their strengths. I notice the folks who will do that are in the minority.

cant add much to that. I know I have lost 2 hounds that I thought could compete anywhere and excelled at times. you do not want to know the number of dogs I have went through to replace them and at this point I still haven't
