This is not the first time I've seen a post like this. I would like to see some GOOD Swamp dogs go. I'm not a coon hunter I run bear, lion , bobcat and grey fox with a 8 generation line of hound x cur . We cover a lot of different ground High desert (6000- 9800 FT. elevation ) Steep rocky bushy canyon country (2500-6000FT) All year long going from 6'' of dust covered roads to 12'' of snow 0-90 degrees. If any of you swamp guys ever make it out west I like to see them go.

Well,...Mr put em, evidently, you are not the same kinda coonhunter that most of us are. If you were, you would understand that the only thing that would get accomplished by me taking my dogs out there to run bobcats, mountain lions, bears, foxes and Whatever the hell else they run out yonder...would be setting my dogs up to get the h £!! Beat out of them....shocked ..my dogs are to run and tree coons plain and simple...anything else is OFF GAME!!!!! I hope this message may have cleared this up for you...and if it offended you, that's OK by me as well. Have a nice day.

My mentor, Ole Mac, used to tell me the same thing I have heard from bear hunters. Train your dog in the roughest country you can find that is also hard hunted, and your dogs will tree game anywhere.

Whether it is cut over, briar thickets, or swamps it shouldn't matter.

As far as for accepting a hunting invitation for the swamps down south, the swamps and water itself isn't the problem, but those big nasty snakes and gators they sort of stress out the handler too much.

ok

Actually I've talked to claveyrivercurs, I told him that I would love to witness a hunt like he spoke of. I think it would be neat to see his dogs run all of that kind of stuff because I've never been out west and witnessed that style of hunting nor have I ever been bear hunting or any of that other stuff...I have had my dogs tree bobcats but they were corrected for it....I like to competition hunt...if my dog trees off game in a nite hunt they receive minus points...I don't like minus points, therefore, I train my dogs to run and tree raccoons and only raccoons. On the other hand...when I start a pup, it doesn't bother me if that pup wants to run a little trash ( deer) in the beginning, because it's my opinion that bumping a deer helps teach them how to run a track a little better. Once they start treeing coons on a regular basis. .I break them off of everything else. Also..Mr Larry Atherton 'post above was 100% correct. After hurricane Hugo came through here in 89..lots of people quit coon huntin the woods were horrible. ..I remember walking across tree tops all the way to some trees. When you hunted a dog hard in those conditions and they treed coons, you could go other places where you had clean woods and you would have an advantage on the competition.
