Re: Deaths under Presidents Bush and Obama article 2011

quote:
(CNSNews.com) – "President Barack Obama has not yet served three full years as commander in chief, but the number of U.S. casualties in the 10-year-old Afghanistan war has now tripled since Obama was inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2009.

On that day, the total casualty count for the then-7-year-old Afghan war was 569. As of Sept. 30 of this year, it was 1,698.

The 1,129 additional U.S. casualties in Afghanistan since Obama took office equals 66.5 percent of all U.S. casualties there for the duration of the war.

With three months still to go, 2011 is already the second deadliest year of the war.

From January through September 2011, 340 U.S. service members have been killed in Afghanistan--only 22 fewer than the 362 who were killed during the same span in 2010, which was the deadliest year so far for U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

The top three deadliest years of the war -- 2010 (497 deaths), 2011 (340), 2009 (303) -- have occurred under President Obama’s tenure.

At least 38 U.S. troops died in Afghanistan in September, making last month the second deadliest September of the war, exceeded only by September 2010, when 42 Americans died.

August 2011 was the deadliest month of the conflict, according to CNSNews.com’s tally. Seventy-one U.S. troops died in August, including 30 on a helicopter that was shot down by insurgents on August 6.

The top five deadliest months of the war, which began October 7, 2001, have taken place under Obama’s presidency -- August 2011 (71 deaths), July 2010 (65), June 2010 (60), October 2009 (58), and August 2010 (55). Historically, the Afghan summer months of June to September have seen the most fatalities.

Of the total 1,698 U.S. military deaths in the decade-old Afghanistan war, at least 1,129 (65 percent) have happened since Obama officially became president three years ago. The 1,129 military fatalities under Obama’s watch are almost double the 569 that took place under the eight years of the Bush administration.

The average monthly fatality rate for U.S. military forces serving in Afghanistan has increased more than 5-fold since Obama became commander-in-chief, rising about 6.5 deaths per month under President George W. Bush to more than 34 under Obama.

Of the 1,698 total U.S. military deaths reported so far, about 88 percent (1,488) have been combat-related. The remaining non-combat deaths occurred as a result of accidents, illnesses, drowning, or other non-combat incidents. Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), are the number one killer of U.S. forces.

CNSNews.com’s detailed count of U.S. military fatalities in Afghanistan is derived from official casualty reports issued by the Department of Defense and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force-Afghanistan, augmented by information taken from media accounts.

The database includes all U.S. troops who died or were fatally injured in and around Afghanistan while supporting military efforts against insurgents under Operation Enduring Freedom, which covers multiple countries.

CNSNews.com’s total count of U.S. fatalities in and around Afghanistan includes 12 U.S. troops who died in Pakistan and three who died in the Arabian Sea while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan. The death count of 1,698 could be revised, given the lag time in Defense Department reporting.

On Sept. 22, in his final testimony to Congress before retiring as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, , Adm. Mike Mullen accused the Pakistani government of 'exporting violence' to Afghanistan.

He said that 'extremist organizations serving as proxies of the government of Pakistan are attacking Afghan troops and civilians as well as U.S. soldiers' and that those organizations 'are hampering efforts to improve security in Afghanistan.'

President Obama announced in December 2009 that he was temporarily increasing U.S. military presence in Afghanistan by 30,000 troops. On June 2 of this year, the president announced that 10,000 troops would be out of Afghanistan by December 31, and another 23,000 would be withdrawn by September 2012. That would leave around 60,000 soldiers in Afghanistan.

During his final testimony to lawmakers, Mullen also said the president’s plan to withdraw 33,000 U.S. forces from Afghanistan by the end of next summer increases the 'military risk' for U.S. forces, but he later added that he 'absolutely' supports Obama’s drawdown proposal and that the risk is 'manageable.'

Wow this one brings to mind the old quote..."If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with b....". Obama sent troops back to Afghanistan, you know that country that actually harbored Al Queda instead of Iraq that Bushes ADD went after before finishing the job in Afghanistan. I guess that goes for overstating Executive Order numbers too. Lol Carry On!

You asked if I'm.doing better than I was 5 1/2 years ago. Why yes I am. I'm not watching bodies coming home from Iraq on a daily basis for some weapons of mass destruction that have still never been found. Unemployment rates are falling. Housing and vehicle markets are coming back. And the 401k is doing pretty darn good since it went from the high 8000's five and a half years ago to 15,000 last week. Not sure of the exact policies, I'm sure I could Google them , but Rome wasn't built in a day and fixing the cluster he inherited wasn't going to be fixed overnight either.

Poverty rates

A Census Bureau report on Wednesday revealed nearly 46.2 million people (one out of six Americans) live in poverty in President Barack Obama's economy. Yet, the Obama administration touted the the country's horrific poverty figures and attempted to spin the statistics in its favor.
Rebecca M. Blank, the acting United States commerce secretary, spun the numbers in a statement by saying, "if President Obama had not taken swift and aggressive action to grow our economy and create jobs, today’s report would have shown much higher poverty rates, lower incomes and a greater share of the population without health insurance."

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, “the gap between rich and poor Americans grew in 2011 as the poverty rate remained at almost a two-decade high,” while 25.7 million women live in poverty, which is another record high.

In addition, 16.3% of women now live in poverty, which is the highest rate in 17 years, and the number of families living in poverty increased to 9.5 million, another record high.

Obama's poor economy has shrunk the country’s middle class to an all-time low, even though Obama frames himself as the candidate who can best help the middle class.

“Today’s report confirms that the American Dream remains out of reach for too many families," Mitt Romney press secretary Andrea Saul said in a statement. "Nearly 1 in 6 Americans are living in poverty, including a record number of women, and the middle class is struggling amid falling incomes, rising prices, and persistently high unemployment."

The lack of job creation forced 368,000 Americans to give up hope and leave the workforce in August, which is the only reason why the unemployment rate went from 8.3% to 8.1%.

And those who are unemployed or in poverty are finding it more difficult to obtain gainful or higher-paying employment. The Associated Press noted that in July of 2013, 3.5 Americans were competing for each open job.

Yep: Still trying to fix Bush's mess...

The funny part is when oil went up in the Bush era and caused the economy to crash oil also went up across the world. Being in China in 09 I was able to see the Chinese were paying over 4$ us dollar per gallon. Obama oh boy did he capitalize on that and we are still waiting for him to get the cost of oil down like he "promised"..
So the cluster your so called al mighty inherited was a global mess not just home. But hey some voted for him and continue to support him. Thank goodness there there's still we the people that stood up to his gun grabbing fingers and voted the UN/ Obama gin bill down.
BTW, China's still paying over 4$ a US dollar for gas, Obama hasn't tried to lower or cost.

Also the reason you still have your large round .22 caliber magazine is because people like ME wrote his senators daily to insure they vote the gun bill down. You're welcome.

Travis,
As you correctly stated...the President has to have the authorization of Congress to pass laws and to go to war....
If you remember...the International Community had the same intelligence that the Congress and the President had stating the Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, to base their decision on to vote yea or nay and roll call votes to declare war.
Do I see Hillary and Uncle Joe Biden on there?
BUSH: Bad President...Bad!
But maybe they voted for the war in Iraq before they voted against it...
That Darn Bush!! Making them vote that way...Bad President...Bad...

Re: Broken promises :facts

President Obama has an accountability problem. It's not simply that during the 2008 campaign he made extravagant promises to heal the planet, slow the rise of the oceans, end political divisions in America, and usher in an era of hope and change. It's that as a candidate and in the early days of his presidency, Obama and his top aides made a series of very specific promises on a range of issues.
As a candidate, Obama promised to create five million new energy jobs alone, claimed that by the end of his first term his health care plan would "bring down premiums by $2,500 for the typical family," and guaranteed that his financial rescue plan would help "stop foreclosures." As president-elect, Obama informed us that he had asked two of his top economic advisers, Christina Romer and Jared Bernstein, to conduct a "rigorous analysis" of his economic recovery plan. The report that he released predicted unemployment would not rise above 8 percent if the stimulus plan was passed. And in the first year of his presidency, Obama pledged to "cut the deficit we inherited in half by the end of my first term in office," "lift two million Americans from poverty," and "jolt our economy back to life."
The problem for Obama is that his predictions were not only wrong; they were terribly wide of the mark. For example, since the president was sworn in, America has suffered a net decline of roughly half a million jobs. According to a study by the Kaiser Family Foundation, the average annual premium for family health coverage through an employer reached $15,073 in 2011 — an increase of 9 percent, or $1,303, over the previous year. The 9 percent increase in family premiums between 2010 and 2011 followed an increase of 3 percent between 2009 and 2010. Under Obama, the number of foreclosures was the worst in history. In addition, last year was the worst sales year on record for housing, while home values are nearly 35 percent lower than they were five years ago.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate has been above 8 percent for 41 consecutive months. The deficit was around $1.3 trillion the day Obama took office in the midst of the financial crisis; according to the Congressional Budget Office, in the current 2012 budget year, the deficit will be around $1.25 trillion. And a record 46 million Americans are now living in poverty.
In addition, during the Obama years we've experienced the weakest economic recovery on record. America's credit rating was downgraded for the first time in our history. The standard of living for Americans fell more steeply than at any time since the government began recording it five decades ago. Income for American families has actually declined more following the economic recession than it did during the official recession itself.
Adding salt to his self-inflicted wounds, Obama, in the heady early days of his presidency, invited accountability. In February 2009, for example, the president told NBC's Matt Lauer that if he didn't have the economy fixed in three years, then "there's going to be a one-term proposition."
Given that Obama's key economic promises haven't been kept, what possible excuse can the president offer? Easy. The president's explanation goes something like this: By the time he took office, the economic situation was far worse than anyone, including Obama, imagined. The deficit was far larger than anyone predicted. The president therefore can't be held accountable for his failed promises. He was operating on a false set of assumptions. The crisis was much deeper than he knew when he made those promises. "We didn't know how bad it was," is how Obama put it last year.
Here's the problem: If you go back and examine the record, you'll find that Obama was fully aware of the depth and severity of the recession. As a candidate, for example, he said we were facing "the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression." As president-elect, Obama said we faced "a crisis unlike any we have seen in our lifetime."
Prior to being sworn in, Obama knew — in fact, he went out of his way to warn us — that we were shedding more than half a million jobs per month, the worst job loss in over three decades. That in 2008 we had lost more jobs than in any year since the Great Depression. That manufacturing had hit a 28-year low. That the stock market had fallen almost 40 percent in less than a year. That credit markets were nearly frozen. That businesses large and small couldn't borrow the money they needed to meet payroll and create jobs. That home foreclosures were mounting. That credit card and auto loan delinquencies were rising. That the economy was "in a global crisis." And that he was inheriting an "enormous budget deficit — you know, some estimates over a trillion dollars. That's before we do anything."
In other words, Barack Obama knew full well how bad things were when he promised he'd cut the deficit in half, when his economic team said that if his stimulus package passed, unemployment would not rise above 8 percent, and much of the rest.
What this means, then, is that Barack Obama's only excuse for his failures is a myth and a mirage — a manufactured, after-the-fact effort to escape accountability for his own words, his own commitments, and his own failings.
The "We Couldn't Possibly Have Known How Bad It Was" narrative is an understandable one for Obama to resort to. But like so much of what the president says these days, it's simply make-believe. The president has run out of excuses, which explains why for many Americans he's just about run out of time.

Poor guy...he just wasn't equipped to handle Bush's mess.
Well..at least someone is doing well in this economy.
How much is Barack Obama worth?
$12.2 Million
Barack Obama's Annual Salary
$400 Thousand
Gee...400 Thousand time 5.5...hmmm...that's see now thats...but, at least he healed the planet and he slowed the rise of the oceans...amid Greek columns...that were styrofoam...LOL.

When did everyone stop thinking about what is best for the whole country rather than themselves, their corporation, their state or home town... bridges to nowhere, subsidy $$$ to anyone???

OMG.... .
44 DEMOCRATS AND 2 INDEPENENTS, HAVE THEY NO SHAME??

Traitors (46 of Them!)

Look how close this Vote was!!!

This is unbelievable!

We came FOUR (4) Votes away from the

United States Senate giving our

Constitutional RIGHTS over to the United Nations.

In a 53-46 vote, the Senate narrowly passed a measure that will stop the

United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.

The Statement of Purpose from the Bill read:

To UPHOLD Second Amendment Rights and prevent the

United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.

The U.N. Small Arms Treaty, which has been championed by the

Obama Administration, would have effectively placed a

Global BAN on the import and export of Small Firearms.

The ban would have affected all PRIVATE Gun Owners in the U.S.,

and had language that would have implemented an

International Gun Registry on all Private Guns and Ammo.

Astonishingly, 46 of our United States Senators

were willing to give away our Constitutional Rights to Foreign Powers.

Below is a list of the 46 Senators that voted to

GIVE Our/Your rights to the U.N.

here's the deal

obamas crown jewel-obama care, most of the country doesnt want it, hasnt adressed the rising cost issue, and currently they are having to delay parts of it becuase they arent prepared or well thought out, and still faces some pretty stiff supreme court rulings that could greatly alter it

foeign relations-what happened to the reset button? russia and china cant stand him/us even worse then before adn the mid east is pure chaos and even staunch allies like egypt are balking at us

reach across the asile- dc has never been more devicive and he is helping create that same one side versus the other in all of america

most transparent admin- where do i start, what a joke, proballly the least transparent

put people back to work. unemployment still well over 7% and that doesnt take into account how many people are working and under paid, nor how many will be cut to p/t when obamacare kicks in

homeboy has failed and failed again. i dont need any internet lists, above is the facts that i am living with

You libs are still blaming Bush.....simply, amazing! Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the last 2 years of Bushs term, the House and Senate were controlled by the Dems? I hate to even think about it, but what if Clinton is our new President( dang, that was hard to pound out ), but can you imagine the cluster **** she is going to inherit?

Messiah...

A controversial YouTube video posted Sunday by Fox News' Todd Starnes shows a child praying to Barack Obama.

"Barack Obama, thank you for doing everything and all the kind stuff," the young boy starts. "Thank you for all the stuff that you helped us with. Thank you for taking the courage and all the responsibility for everything you have done for us and God has gave you special powers."

"And you are going to handle it just fine," the young boy continues. "You are good, Barack Obama you are great.
And when you get older you will be able to do great things. Love, Steven."

The video ends with a loud “Barack Obama” yell of joy.

"The prayer that he wanted to say for our President is priceless," said the YouTube description of the video.

But the prayer was universally condemned as blasphemous and the result of parental brainwashing.

"Watching this is like watching the kids in the Middle East brainwashed by their parents wanting to become martyrs. Gotta love brainwashing. A mind truly is a terrible thing to use," one commenter said at YouTube.

"Wow, I've never seen such blasphemy. It's obviously not the kids fault, he doesn't know any better... but the parent should know better," said another YouTube user.

A post at the Independent Journal Review said the video "gives evidence that no matter how bad the 'recovery' is, no matter how awful our foreign policy weakens us, people will happily continue to worship Obama."

This isn't the first time Obama has been the subject of praise and worship.

In November 2010, a Newsweek cover declared Obama "god of all things." Another Newsweek cover called his 2013 inaugural the "second coming."

As we reported in 2011, an entire page is devoted to documenting the child worship of Barack Obama.

Last November, Jamie Foxx called the president, "our lord and savior," and Florida A&M professor Barbara A. Thompson called Obama an "apostle" sent to "create heaven here on earth" in a book called "The Gospel According to Apostle Barack: In Search of a More Perfect Political Union as 'Heaven Here on Earth.'"
may have taken his worship of Barack Obama a bit too far at the Soul Train Awards, when he took the stage to proclaim Obama the Messiah.
"First of all, give an honor to God ... and our lord and savior, Barack Obama," Foxx said. "Barack Obama," he proclaimed on stage in Las Vegas. "Y'all stand up right now."

A longtime supporter of Obama, Foxx did an impersonation of the president at his 2009 inaugural celebration. At the time, Foxx called Obama's 2008 acceptance speech "the most incredible moment of my life and all of your lives."

A poster sold at last year's Democratic National Convention declared Obama to be "Prophesy fulfilled."

“Barak is of Hebrew origin and its meaning is ‘flash of lightning,'” Starnes says the poster explains, "referencing a passage in the Old Testament book of Judges."

According to the poster, "Hussein" means “good and handsome.”

“So you see, Barak was destined to be a good and handsome man that would rise like a flash of lightning to win victory in a battle against overwhelming odds,” the poster added.

No..Not spinning

Just citing the Dems that voted for it...you might notice that I didn't list the Republicans and that I did list it as Senate Dems...correct?
The argument was that somehow, mystically, President Bush invaded Iraq all by himself.
By the way and for the record...I believe we should have never gone to war in Iraq...and I am not a Republican...I am a registered conservative....and I vote across party lines based on the record of the candidate...not R or D behind their name.

Might find a copy of the book Against All Enemies by Richard A. Clarke. Will give you a whole new perspective on the whole Iraq war.
