WRONG!!!!!!!

hey Allen

Got a ? for ya, I've been considering buying the new Alpha Garmin, I saw in a recent advisor the rule pertaining to its use in the hunts but I can't find it again, can you please post it for me? If my memory is right I can use the collar but I will have to leave the hand held unit in the truck. Am I right? Thanks

will not forget

Allen I agree, I will never get this one wrong again. It was a very good learning experience for me. I would like to add that durring the discussion the hunters involved remained pretty calm ,the panel had a hard time coming up with it's choice on how to rule, and the rules on how to handle the situation were followed exactly.
I wish as part of the panel I would have gotten it right but just goes to show that everyone can still have something to learn. It was one I had never seen in almost 30 years of night hunting.

You're right. I find myself in the same boat every now and then still. Just when you think you've heard it all....... there's yet another one with a twist you've never heard ruled on before. lol.

I remember one from personal experience that baffled me at the time. Dog was tied to a sapling. Yanked it's lead from the sapling while the cast is squalling and shining a separate tree. Dog takes off back on trail again, with lead strap in tow, and trees on the edge of the woods. ??

Always enjoy good rules discussions though. Fun to see if someone can come up with one that stumps you.

Like runnin rebel said, you're correct with exception to deleting the strike points on the dog that came in after the judge arrived. Rule 5(b) applies to that dog and his strike points are circled.

My last night in Cuba I had serious rule problems . We had a three dog cast. Turned dogs lose and heard nothing for an hour. I ask about calling time the judge said he didn't think we would have time to find them. before the hour I didn't really understand but every one besides me seemed to. We went to the truck and drove around another 20 minutes
And finally called time. My and the judge's dogs were 1.2 miles and treed
. We had to cross two or three of what the locals call V bottoms to get to them. The good thing is they stayed treed for 45 minutes plus with a coon. When we get back to the truck the other cast member has retrieved his dog and the guide is saying that he got back 3 minutes late to continue the cast. They check the judges watch against the guides they are 3 minutes apart so the other dog was 11/2 minutes early and can hunt and our guide says we would be cheating the other people at the hunt if we cast our dogs with a score of 0 and 40 minutes left to hunt. My question is if all dogs are out and no one is being held up from from hunting how can a time out be delaying the cast and does that rule apply in this case?

once you call time out you have 1 hour to catch your dog and be back at a designated meeting place. or you are scratched. so the cast feared that by calling time out immediately and where you were you all would not make it and be scratched. unless the guide was also the judge he would have no say in any time keeping. if you are not back to the meeting place in one hour you are delaying the rest of the cast who are back and waiting. you are scratched. if you all are not back in one hour you all are scratched.

The guide was not the judge or a cast member and had no business keeping time but I was 600 miles from home and probly 40 miles from Cuba and had loaned my truck to another cast . I thought the rule was created to protect hunters who's dogs are finding game with in hearing and are tracking and treeing coon . From losing hunting time and maybe not finishing hunt time chasing a dog or dogs that are lost . Not to punish a whole cast that was put in thin coon and a tough terrain .We had two dogs treeing hard and could not hear them at 500 yards . We stayed with the one dog that beat the clock by 11/2 minutes we moved he did barely get a coon in the 40 minutes and did a nice job of treeing a lay up . I found it for him while my dog was in the box .
