The Zeus dog I mentioned was out of Lone Pine Satan! Don't remember what his momma was. He got a real bad reputation back in the day, undeserved from what I saw when I hunted him!
All I can say is, you didn't want to hunt a mean dog with him. You would go in with 2 dogs, and would come out with just Zeus. I saw my buddys dog tree on his back and not a growl, blow, or even a turn of his head! Big beautiful hound!

I have hunted with lots of good dogs. I have hunted with a couple great ones. The most impressive single night dog I have seen or heard was dog named Gr Nt Ch Silver Ch Raintree Last Deposit Zeb. He was directly out of Wipeout Zeb. I won't say Zeb was the best coon dog I have ever seen as far as night in night out all weather conditions, but on a given night he could be amazing. He could strike and tree a coon quicker (and as far or in any direction) than any dog I have seen. He did it with absolute style. He was a dog that when he opened that head in a cast everyone said "what dog is that?" When he came treed there was no doubt in what was going on and he would tree so rapidly that it was common for people to think two dogs were setting in there treed. He would hustle all over the place and wanted nothing but to please his owner/handler. If you were down in a cast and you had 30 seconds left to hunt, he was the type of dog you turn loose because he could get somewhere in a hurry and be treed. He was not perfect and nor did he operate at that high level every night, but when he was on, he was a Wow, Holy $&@! what did that dog just do type of dog.

I liked Tennessee LeadII ,treed coons wherever and whenever you turned him loose.Had it all ,mouth,looks,tracking and the coon to boot.Billy was a tough hunter too.

night after night a tossup between an ole black cur mutt back in 70's or Hollow Oak Singing Samantha (Late Nite Big Bubbas mother). Both these dogs were as close to being a COONDOG as I'll ever see....on one night drew a walker female that flat dominated a cast of nice real nice hounds.... I bought her hunted her for 5 years seen that dog 3 or 4 more times most nights just a decent dog....I think when I got a chance to hunt with most talked about dogs I was expecting to much and never hunted them over a time or two....when I get healed up and can walk again I do have half interest in one I'm excited about following a few nights!!!!!

The hound that impressed me most night after night was an old Redbone female I hunted with a lot as a kid.

She was Magill's Jungle Jim bred.

She might not impress you so much on any one night, but night in and night out she just never made a mistake, never barked at anything but a coon, and never missed.

She was the only straight coon dog i ever hunted with I guess.

She wasn't a hard tree dog, but nothing could pull her.

Most impressive dog I've seen go for one night was Bad Habit. He put on a clinic on a cast I was guiding in a big hunt. There was a little slew about the size of a football field and Habit treed three around the edge of that while the other dogs were off doing whatever. I don't remember who was handling him or who we drew out with but man he looked good!

Best night-after-night dog I've seen has probably been NITECH GRCH Hutson's Black Ace that Dad owns. He can tree more coon within 100 yrds of the truck than any other dog I've seen. I've got a female out of him that's nice, but not near as nice as ol' Ace.

I thought I knew what a really good dog was until I hunted with Yadkin River Champ. That was back in the 80’s and I haven’t stopped talking about him yet. I’ve hunted with some mighty fine dogs in my life that’s for sure but Champ was the best I ever seen. I hunted with him a few times over the years and he always impressed me.

The one that blew me away was Wipeout Hellbilly. Zack Davis and myself drove up to Mr. Kiddys place and watched him put on a show. 4 singles and he did it in a hurry. Thats the only time i hunted with billy but i was very impressed.
