Kansas Federation of Houndsman
December 8, 2012
3:30pm
Scranton, Kansas
This meeting is being held to try to reorganize the Kansas Federation of Houndsman. It has been several years since we have had a meeting or a State Hunt. Marcus Leck posted a message on the UKC message board in October notifying anyone interested in helping restart the Federation of this meeting December 8, 2012 @ 3:30.
The purpose of this Federation shall be the promotion of better relationship with the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission, so as to retain and improve laws, improve relations between houndsmen and the landowner, improve and promote good fellowship among houndsmen and establish and maintain regulations to protect resources essential to our sport. The Federation of Houndsmen includes all hunting hounds. Also, this meeting will help to reestablishing a UKC sponsored State Coonhound event as well as a UKC State youth event.
Marcus Leck started the meeting my saying he had met Terry Nading and he had picked up the brief case containing information pertaining to the Kansas Federation of Houndsman. He also reported he had picked up 1959.00 in cash. The checking account had been closed to keep from paying a 10.00 a month service charge on an account.
Marcus asked for a volunteer to come forward and read the by-laws. The most current set of by-laws was dated in the early 1990’s. Jerry Ponton Jr. volunteered to come forward and read the by-laws. The by-laws stated that a yearly membership was 3.00 and a lifetime membership was 10.00. Lifetime memberships were sold at 10.00 each. About 38 members paid the ten dollars for a lifetime membership.
It was decided that we would elect new officers. The following is the new list:
President: Marcus Leck
Vice-President: Jerry Ponton Jr.
Secretary-Treasurer: LuAnn Metsker
Reporter: Terry Porter
Pratt Negotiator: Jerrold Parker and Casey Kirkham
Board of Directors: Charles Dickerson, Ron Parker, Robby Robinett, Dennis Elbrader, Casey Kirkham,
and Jeff Pedrow.
Marcus asked for volunteers to form a committee to review the current set of by-laws. The committee is Nancy Davidson, Ron Parker and Jerry Ponton Jr. They will review and have a report for the general membership meeting to be held at the state hunt. LuAnn will scan the current set of by-laws and forward them to each member on the committee for review.
A motion was made to increase the dues to 10.00 per year and 50.00 for a lifetime membership. It was seconded and passed.
Flint hills Coon Hunters will be the host club for the State Hunt to be held this spring. Marcus will contact UKC to get a date. It is anticipated that the hunt will be held the first or second week of April. Northeast Kansas Coon hunters will help with the state hunt as well. Scott Swaney will be the contact for the Flint hills Coon Hunters Club.
It was voted to hold the General Membership meeting at 1:00 on the Saturday of the State hunt.
It was suggested that we look into building a web-site for the Federation. Reporter Terry Porter volunteered to look into building a web-site.
Northeast Kansas Coon Hunters will donate a Hunt Champion trophy.
Ron Parker will donate the State Show Champion trophy
Twin Rivers Coon Hunters, Jerry Sr, and Jerry Jr. Ponton will donate a trophy.
The board of directors will work together in gathering awards and prizes for the state hunt.
It was moved and seconded to adjourn the meeting.
Meeting Adjourned.
Meeting time was 2 plus hours. 40 plus people in attendance.
