90% of the Garmin problems are user related.

Of the other 10%....90% of them are due to an antenna connection that got broke either from over tightening or wear and tear. Most of that time it's the handheld antenna but sometimes it's the collar.

If you are only getting 400 yards then one of your antennas are broke cause they consistently get more range than that and losing signal at 2-400 yards is the hallmark of a broken antenna.

There is a few of those stern tough "looking" guys around still
today. I'd say I find myself "looking up to" more nice guys with a smile. They can be tough when necessary, usually have a tough hound too.

It's not coincendence that when kids and young men knew what chores were , knew how to chop firewood , mowed the lawn growing up , had to pay for their own first cars , etc , etc ... there were alot more "nicer' and "respectable" people on this Earth.

Easy living and the age of the cell phone is a cut and dry correlation to the beginning of all this crazy stuff you see in the news that don't make sense.

Look at our President's ... the great ones that built America most all served in the military and were fighting men with experience in the world ... these draft dodgin , immigrants and car salesmen we've had lately don't stack up.

The biggest problem with Garmin tracking system, it's all made in TAIWAN!! All they make there is throw- away junk. If you look at your wildlife system you can see the quality of made in USA, it will last forever, yes I have both systems!!!

garmin???

to me there is nothing else close!!!i will
NEVER let my dog go with out it.

plus google earth lets you know exactly where your dog is.saves alot un-needed walking and guessing from looking at arrow or listening to "beep"

PS ive lost a dog before for 2 days, if wearing a garmin collar hed be long gone. and yes he was junking ;-)

Everyone wishes it would last 40 hours. Garmin collar is only good for approx. 14 hours if your lucky. Only a fool would soley depend on a garmin ,espeicially if they were hunting out of state. Slick treeing dogs are harder to lose. It would be nice if Garmin could combine both collars in one unit but I guess a tracker/e collar made more sense. I've had beep beep's come off dogs and was able to find them with them with no problem. I've seen alot of people that didn't know how to use either one.

System

I love the garmin set up and how easy it is to know what's around and where ur dog is at that precise moment.....with that said I still turn a hound loose with a beep collar also, forbid they do get to deep the trx1000 reaches out and finds them....and can weeks later if need be... I know one thing for sure I love my garmin and will keep using both collars in the dogs

i had a 320 with 3 collars.i bear hunt in the mountains.i just didnt like the part of losing signal when dogd went just one mile.its all in what you want and where you hunt.i went back to using my beep beep collars and a 100 dollar gps to get back to the truck.works fine for me.the garmin is a good tool but seems if you hunt in rough terrain they dont do so well.jmo

when it looses signal you can go to the map and it still shows the route your dogs on also the compass on mine shows where the dog is at all times even without signal

The compass is showing where your dog was at the last time the receiver picked up a signal. If what you are saying is true, you could pick your dog up to infinity.

yea the compass points in the direction of the last signal as the map shows the last spot it had signal.my trouble was losing comm for 3 or 4 hours on the dogs riding around with my telemetry antenna out the window to find the dogs and when i get back within a mile gps picks back up but i could hear the dogs.then go a little over a mile and there lost again but i could beep them the whole time.just didmt see the point in running the gps collars if i had to use telemetry all the time.i guess if the bear only ran one mile it would be great and id use it.but until they come out with something that has alot more range ill stick with ol beep beep
