Because if you run a ecollar in a hunt you are not allowed to carry the transmitter. If you cant carry the handheld in a hunt its useless to retrive your dog during timeout or at the end of the hunt unless you return to the truck.

The prongs have always been removable. They always gave us two sets, long and short prongs.

Rule 20...." Transmitters for electronic training collars must be left in vehicle........"

Prongs or no prongs, you carry that Alpha on your belt , you are scratched and possibly barred.
UKC doesn't change rules. The breed associations do that and they only do it every 3 years.

How do you get around all that? You don't.

It looks to me like a fantastic training aid. I don't train at nite hunt events. If I couldn't use anything beyond a QuickTrack radio collar in the hunts, I wouldn't care. But those other 5 nights a week, I'm not giving up my Garmin for nothing.

Anything is possible. Heck, they allow trackers to be used in the HTX.

I would sure hate to see them go to changing rules every time a manufacturer upgrades it's product. I think that would be a very bad habit to get into.

You can't even use a phone as a time piece. Everybody has a phone pretty much. I don't see how they could change for these collars. I could even message my buddy stuff on it lol.

This one actually comes with a cover to put over where the prongs go.. Also the tone is way louder on this unit than any Tri-Tronics.

Yes, Mr. Zepp, that was my question, thank you very much for the information.

Looks like at least one of the KC's will be working on the rules to allow these in hunts. This was posted on the ProHound board today.

Good Morning Fellas!

I think you will find that the good folks at PKC will have the rules addressed by the time the Alpha is available.... there has been a considerable amount of thought that has gone into all areas of this project.

Highly unlikely since Garmin's Press Release.

I just got to check one out tonite. They are a very impressive outfit. They have many features that are not mentioned in any of the press releases I saw. Didn't do any kind of testing, just saw it used on a normal coon hunt. These Alphas are not an ungrade of the 320 Astro, they are a completely new and different unit. Definitely takes training to the next level.

i'll keep my 220 and 320 with the dc 30 collars. they do everything i need them to do. the big killer for me is when they included anything with the tri tronics name on it. i dont care if garmin or the moon man owns tri tronics now. that will be the first thing that lays down in the alpha system.

The not working with my Dc collars and $300 for the new collars is a deal breaker for me. That is getting crazy for a tracking collar!
