In my opinion........

the only rule UKC needs to change is where it says a dog has to be struck in before being declared treed.

Then we need ALL judges to have guts enough to stand up and scratch the dogs that are breaking the rules.........

Babblers AND Silent dogs !

After awhile this would clean up the hunts and this would be a thing of the past !

Bob

silent dogs

I hunted a UKC NTCH earlier this year for two weeks that couldn't tree a coon by himself but I bought a dog that trees coons every nigt and unless shes in standing corn or lots of water she dont bark track. Is she stillmouth? which dogs a coondog? I think more handlers win hunts than dogs

i have a gyp does not bark a lick on track but i have treed more coons with her than some of these nt ch if she slicks you lose tree points if you dont get strike points the other dogs will beat you if they fall treed with a coon like most of the babbling dogs tend to do hey im not crazy about silent dogs either but if you beat a man fair with one i dont have a problem with it i hate it when you hunt with a bunch of trash runners all night that play back up to someones dog that has worked and treed the coon alot of that goes on i say let them hunt if your dog is a better dog you shouldnt have a problem getting a win on them

Appears to me this is an integrity issue. Either you got it or you don't. The rules are there for a reason, so stop ignoring them because they don't suite you............. nuff said

i con't know of anyone that doesn't want the perfect hound but hounds are like people some only speak when they have something to say others run off at the mouth all the time with nothing to say
if either of these rules were strictly enforced (by some interpetations of the rules i have heard) it would be mighty lonely out there hunting by yourself

A silent dog is a working dog. Atleast his not babbling, a silent dog is always working. I got one of the most accurate hardest tree dog in the woods and he is silent on the track. just jealousy...

Silent

I had a beautiful English redtick that I sold about a year and a half ago.She was silent, but not as a young dog.She learned it on her own.She was smarter than a lot of people. Most times she would give out a high-pitched yip or two before she treed.I'd give anything to have her back right now.She could flat blow the top outta the tree. You could see a lotta meat with her.

I'm amazed at the lack of comprehension some people have with reading and understanding rules.

It's no wonder so many people are FED UP with competition hunts. They're becoming free for alls for those who want to disregard and bend the the rules anyway possible instead of abiding with them.

I have always thought that a better silent dog rule would be to scratch the dog at the end of the hunt if it has shown throghout the 2 hours to be silent.
Remember alot of older silent dogs were open track dogs when they were younger. I have had 2 through the years that started out wide open and by the time they were 5 they were dead silent.
The NTCH. HTX. dog that i hunt now is open in standing corn or around water, he opens sparingly when hes alone, but dump him with a cast in the timber and if he has company on a track he wont say a word until he locates. No one has ever tried to scratch him, and i like saying strike and tree my dog. 25+125.
