Double grandson

Tony, whats that pup out of? Double grandson of Chief?? Sure looks like he could be monkey faced in a few months. That black around his eyes looks to be fading. Guess time will tell. Nice looking little booger though!

He is out of Rat and Moonlight, Moonlight is monkey faced also, this cross has produced 1 gr nt,2 nt ch and 1 with a first place out of 6 pups, i got high hopes for him and his brother here.
Moonlight is a grandpup to chief thru Dancer, they are also double sparetime spanky bred.I hope to get some pics of moonlight in the woods next week.she can tree lots of coons, she has gotten loose off her chain twice now and she was found under a coon both times.I kinda like the doubling up on chief and spanky,i think it is proven.

Craig,
Just thought I would let you know that litter is about a week old now. She only had 2 pups, a male and a female. I am planning on keeping both of them for the time being. But you never know. I also got my Wilmoths Cold Blue Steel female bred to him, so we will see what I decide to keep. This one will make 3 litters out of the last 3 breedings. I will keep you up to date on how they are all coming along.

Fred

Nice dog, alittle weak in the mouth but a nice get it done hound. Craig has some grand pups to Fred, still young.
Matt does he still lead nice?

Matt,Moonlight has a terrible mouth,Fred ended up with the weakest of the litter,All the rest of them have good mouths, once again breeding for ability.Anyone that ever hunted with gr nt ch smokey river crazys fly or nt ch honey run becky knows what i am talking about, btw you will find all three of these females mentioned in the top reproducers.fred has 2 other littermate nt chs and one that is a gr ch with a first place win.the jj dog made nt ch in 4 hunts.

Matt I was asking because

When Craig sold Fred he was able to just clip and drop the lead, just wondering if he was still doing the same is all.
The litter out of Fred that I know has some tree dogs in it, but other than that I dont know, you would have to ask Craig Harris about that.

that is how most bullet dogs are, my frosty dog I lost never needed a lead....my snowman pup out of him is 11 months old, and he handles like his daddy, will stay by your side til you send him, and will stay at your side without a leash....bullet tended to throw that desire to please and the brains....

I have hunted with quite a few dogs out of Chief. I bred a Little Mack female to him in 93 or 94 and she didnt take. I think it would have been a real good cross. I think Chief's best trait as a stud is that he threw an unusually high number of "okay" coondogs. I mean this in a positive way. Then every so often he would throw a "real good-un". Then he threw 3 or 4 "TOP" hounds such as Hoss, Bullit, Geronimo, and maybe Dancer but he may not have been in the same class as the other 3.He also threw many good females. Chief was a big dog but usually threw a dog that was a little smaller than himself but still in the 75 lb range. Warren told me Chief was not a great coondog but was pretty good. It took quite a while to make him a Nite Ch. One thing Chief didnt do was "mark" his pups with his looks. The females really had alot to do with the way the pups looked. I have never hunted with a Chief pup that had a "Really Big" mouth. I hunted with alot that had good mouths but nothing that just stood out. Bullit was about 8 years old when I hunted with him and had a good mouth for an older dog but I expect he was much louder as a pup. On the same note I dont think I ever hunted with a Chief dog that had a "plum sorry"mouth either.`I dont think Chief was the greatest blue stud of all time, he is rightfully in the top 10. What I do believe is that, Chief blood will be a piece of the Genetic Puzzle that one day produces a World Champion. Be it through Bullit, Rattler, Bullit II, or even my own Rock dog.

Chief Mouths

I have hunted a few Chief dogs with real mouths. Dryfork Blue Spud ( Chief's sire) had a good mouth that you could hear, and he sure put some good mouths on his pups. In my opionion, Chief was not as dominant as Diamond Jim. You could just look at a D.J. offspring, or hear one open in the woods and know that it was related. There have been very few studs that reproduced their likeness through their offspring, regardless of the females they were bred to. I believe that to be true in all breeds. I don't know what it is, but there is a fine line (genetically) between good, and real good.

Thanks Long Ears for keeping me posted. I purchased a young dog recently that is a full brother to my Nippet female, just a litter older. He is three years old, and a go getter. He is wired tight, and I mean tight. Has a cold nose, good mouth, and is a good tree dog. He has more go than I do. I really appreciate you keeping me posted, and I wish you the best of luck with your pups. I think you will like what you see in them.

Was dryfork blue spud ever collected? and if so is there any left? Where? I was really wanting to back up on the linage as far as I could and I thought a chief son was about as far as I could go.
