I think the key here is terminology. I think of a dog that will back as a dog that I call honor another dog. The way you guys talk about one is what I call a me too dog. If they go to a dog that opens and checks his track to see if it is a coon. Then tries to beat him to the tree he will not whind up on a bad tree just becouse the other dog does.
That is why I want mine to honor but wouldn't have a me too dog. That gives them a good chance of getting part of yours and if they are faster they have a good chance of getting second strike and first tree.
They allso still have a chance of getting first strike and tree if they find a track first.
One that will get by itself is easier to find though.
