My nephew came up yesterday at 4:30.
It was a little after 5 before we could get started.
Couldn't find a tom to get after till 7:45. There were 2 toms strutting in the field.
We sat and watched them for a few minutes and I told Joel that I was pretty sure we could call them in the next morning.
Then , a hen stepped out of the woods. I figured , " No problem , it can still work." Then , another one stepped out and I figured I was done. I told Joel we could still try , but I wasn't sure if I could pull them away from 2 hens.
5:45 this morning , we were set-up and ready.
About 5:55 , they started gobbling.
They hit the ground about 6:15 , so I started talking to them. It seemed like hours , but in a few minutes , they were in the field. They both seen the decoys and went into strut and started our way. They were struttin' , spittin' and drummin' , the whole way in. (about 100 yards)
When they finally got close enough , 30 yards , I told Joel to take him when he was ready.
He started moving the gun into position. By the time he got ready , the birds were at 10 yards. BANG ! He , missed ! :yikes:
They started to turn and run , BANG ! This time , the bird folds.
He's down and out st 6:30 !
Nephew Joel and his first turkey......
9 3/4" beard , 1" spurs , 21 lb's.
