I always saw coon near my deer feeder with shelled corn. Never took a dog there, but might this spring. Maybe a easy coon, maybe trash breaking. A young dog needs to learn someplace.

Yall dont know the first thing bout coon huntin apparently. 1st their must be a good food source, then you gotta et coon in there whether u lie trap and release there, or they come naturally. I have a spot on the river down here where I can see around 30+ a night in under an hour. ITS ALL IN HOW YOU HUNT. GAME MANAGEMENT. Quit bashin ppl bc you think they cheat. PROVE IT OR LET IT BE! Tired of people assuming they know better or more than anyone else. I also have a spot where a deer hunter had 15 on his trail cam at one time.

Sound's like they must have been hunting in your spot then. Sound's like they was just casting there light's up in the tree's .Like you said you can see 30+ a night in an hour ,not your dog's treed 30 in a hour. Not being smart but if you have that many coon how come's you have all pr dog's .Like i said not being smart/just wondering.

Because I have yet to competition hunt. I am a single father of three and I spend most of my free time raising my kids. But it will all soon change...I would love to have a nite champion, but my situation has prevented it. And the spot I have where we see 30+ coons a nite, you could tree that many in 2 hrs if you do it right. Its a group of islands on the river, not hard to get to, just not hunted much. 2 of my current dogs are pups, and joe is a 6 yr old I just got, Psyco is 10yrs old, had him a year. I do a good bit of pleasure hunting, thats what I got into this sport for.

I am one who doesnt kill every coon I see. Some places ur lucky to tree one a night, some are so thick u can tree 5 or more in one tree. I usually kill 2 a night max just for the dogs. Give the meat to older folks around me that eat it.

Best Thing
I have never thought about bringing the coon to the dog ( using feeders ) but suppose if you are only wanting to get your hound a on score card quick this would be the idea thing. Thats why there is a difference in coon hunting and playing the game of competition coon hunting . Not bashing anyone here guys so please don't start defending you or your dog. I get a high knowing a dog that I feed needs no feeders to make him , hunt, strike tree a coon and same way as training a young dog let she/he do it naturally . Coon in these hills of Kentucky in the winter makes for great hunts but if you have not a dog that will go hunting you will come up short and disappointed , So get you a line of dogs that go hunting and don't need you bringing the coon to them.

that is how its supposed to be. no wonder you keep seeing more and more dogs that wont hunt. let the dog find his own coon. thats part of the test. not who can get to the bucket first. thats more like a field trial. all you end up with is a counterfit ntch
