They might be some dogs out there worth 10k but what I would like to know what in the heck are you guys calling good bred or good breeding?I get sick of this term, bred good.People will ask me if my young dog is bred good.Who gives a shitt how he is bred,if he can tree coon and do it right, what the heck does it matter.Does papers tree coon,NO.I've heard people say my dog is bred better than yours, that means he is worth more.I just tell em I don't care, how many did slick trees did he have last month?

bred good

If somebody says their dog is worth more because of breeding is foolish ability determines the worth of a dog that being said its no coincidence hounds from top notch hounds make top notch hounds that's called reproducing! Regardless of what many think for a hound to win at a high level they have to be super nice hound because a POS will just not get it done if a guy gives ten grand for a hound they would have to be pretty impressive.

I guess this leads to another question, does it raise a dogs value if it was sold for big money at a young age? You always here about ole' so-in-so who has that 5 year old male dog that sold for $6,000.00 at 15 months old, but hasnt been hunted in 3 years much and the last few times he was out he looked alright, treed a couple, made a slick tree....etc.

Just means I over paid for it.

Jay

"Why? Where you thinking this much for this dog?"

Jay, i sold gin the day after i dug her out of a field tile... lets just say i would have asked for twice that if she had a better tree mouth to go with her ability so i had to settle a little!!

Ten grand is a lot of money. A dog for that kind of money is an investment. The dog would have had to do some serious winning. Have a great pedigree and be throwing good pups. He would have to be be something I felt I could double my investment on in his life span before I considered it

Aaron, I just remember overhearing someone talk about her and them considering buying her in my saturday night cast that I guided at this past year UKC Quarter finals, just wasn't sure if ya sold the dog or not is all! (getting dogs out of tiles suck!)

I have never paid near that much but have turnt down more than that for a couple. Don't regret it for one second, yes I am a coon hunting fool. I don't have fancy toys, or live above our means. I don't run down those that play golf or enjoy boating. I don't mind spending a little money on a top hound that I can enjoy hunting for a few years.

i don't know what knotheads would pay that much and then not hunt the dog to begin with. and there's no way a big money dog would ever get worth more if it didn't back it up with some real winning or reproducing. i was onced offered eight grand for a dog but the man didn't have a pot to piss in and we was drinking. so does that mean i had a high dollar dog. there are very few dogs that sell for many thousands of dollars. guess all the stories make everyone believe alot of hype. most people on this board haven't paid never even paid a thousand dollars for a dog. you must be talking about the one percenters not us average hunters.

This entire thread is about entitlement. Nothing more and nothing less. Those that can pay that kind of money come with the arrogance to feel they are entitled to a profit. It is money driven and not hound driven. The hound is a secondary tool for them to ply their trade as "businessmen". That sits fine with some, and not so fine with others. But, it is their money to spend..... I'm going fishing.

Any one that claims dogs as a business can pay $10,000 (if they can afford it) for a dog. They then depreciate it ,plus their vehicle and all expenses related to raising, training(hunting) etc. They can buy new vehicles (of any kind) and get by with it as the government figures if you pay $10,000 for a dog you must be in business,(or crazy) and it is cheaper to have you not pay taxes then put you in a mental hospital and have to pay for your care. LOL!

A wise man once said a fool and his money are easily parted . I bet with some legwork you can find a dog as good or better for less money . I dont think people who try to buy their way to the top and pay other poeple to hunt their dogs or "fix" them when they screw them up , are really respected like they think they are when their big money dogs happen to win . Alot of us think it is funny when we draw you and beat you with our home raised worthless , fun to hunt dogs .

There has to be a reason I stay on here and read these things!!! This is THE ONE tonight! Now that's funny, funny, funny and true. Come to think of it , They must not throw folks in jail for tax evasion for the same reason. I wouldn't try it but so many must have a better CPA than me. LMAOROTF

well that sounds pretty envious. i'm sorry you aren't entitled enough already. if a man works hard for his money he ought to be able spend it on what he wants. if it's a top dog fine. handlers and trainers fine. i don't see where respect has anthing to do with it. i don't have less respect for people who bought a nicer truck than mine. shoot i'd like to have one myself. i don't expect anyone just to give me one and i can't make one. so i guess i'll save up and buy one someday. can you tell me any coonhunter that bought his way to the top. i bet most that do have the big bucks and can afford a top one have earned their stripes. i dont think a nonhunter says i got ten grand and i am gonna dominate them ol boys and get me a coondog. thats funny.

TO EVERYONE THAT THINKS ITS FOOLISH TO PAY BIG MONEY FOR A DOG

1 MONEY IS NO GOOD TO YOU AFTER YOUR GONE MIGHT AS WELL SPEND IT ON THE THINGS IN LIFE THAT BRING YOU JOY

2 THE ONES WHO HAVE PAID IT MUST NOT BE FOOLS BECAUSE THEY HAVE MADE GOOD DECISIONS SOMETIME IN THEIR LIVES OR THEY WOULD NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO EVEN CONSIDER A DOG FOR THIS PRICE

TO EACH HIS OWN IF YOU ARE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU HUNT DONT WORRY BOUT WHAT US "FOOLS"HUNT WE HAVE JUST LEARNED OVER TIME WE WONT BE SATISFIED WITH A COMMON DOG

so is that a no on the loan. i'd like to try and find a top leopard or plott to be different. but i figure there ain't none that good or worth that much. i don't have no problem trying to upgrade my walker dogs though. just pretty hard to come by that much expendable money for what i want. the banker just don't take kindly to me asking for a loan. i'm with you wise man. you only live once and it's just money. you make. you spend it. i just don't have enough of it.
