Savage bolt action with a synthetic stock and centerpoint illuminating scope. I love it because it is rugged and the scope has green or red cross hairs or you can just not turn the scope on and it is like a regular scope. I have scope sighted in where it will drive tacks. Usually one well placed shot under the chin or behind the ear brings them down with winchester hollow points 330 in a carton. I spend about $8.00 every 3-4 years on ammo, a carton last forever.

I always shoot for the head if the coon presents it to me. well the other night old Bonnie treed a big sow and I walked up and shot it with my ruger pistol. Thought it was a good shot and it almost fell, but then held on tight. I waited a minute for it to fall out but it didn't. My buddy was carrying a rifle with a scope so I said to him to shoot it again. When he started to aim, he said, "You put that coon's eye out." I told him to let me see and sure enough that coon looked at me and one of its eyes was blood red with nothing but a hole there. I shot her in the head again and out she came. I can't believe how tough they can be!!

I use one, i have had it for about 5 years now, and it is very dependable! Throw it across your back and go, throw it in the ditch and get it the next day!

Well the stories have been great . I love reading them & now its time for a short one from myself..

Took a family last night hunting , now it was probably not wise but I told them we would go another (better ) night it was rain & wind blowning just not a real picture perfect night . But the little boy called back and ask if we couldnt just go make one drop.(8yrs old) he said I even take you to my honey hole lolol. I was like how do you tell him no,. Ok I wil be there in a little bit so I arrive their ready so off we go .First drop corn field creek & and big ole den tree . So now I think ok done Logan says lets go to the other spot , augh what, my honey hole I told you , I just wanted to see if your dog could run a track !!!! lololol I am like well lets go . Second drop 1 den & what we thought was eyes in the hole , move down a little bit cut him in there he says ,I say the barn hes like yea Ole Jackson struck in there ran out cross the cornfield, down the hollar cross the road in the wheat field & treed . Coon seen and finally Logan says well I like your hound and I think hes pretty good!! Finaly I got his approval lolol Great hunt I love it !!!!!!!

We bought the kids a Henry mini bolt. It was 200. but has a safety unlike the cricket. Has pretty good sights also, and is stainless steel. Shoots well but is pretty loud.

That is awesome! It's what keeps us wanting to pass our sport on to the next generation.

I've got three boys ages 11, 9, and 7 and my cousin's little 6 year old girl that lives with us most of the time. All of them, but the 9 year old, love coon hunting (he spends most of his time playing sports). So I've carried many kids through the woods many different times in my life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Watching them get excited when they get to call the dog treed is more exciting than anything I ever done as far as hunting myself.
