NEVER WAS MUCH OF A HOG HUNTER ( CHUCKIN ). BUT I DID TAKE A GROUSE HEAD OFF WITH 223 AT 60 + YARDS. HAVE TAKEN SOME LONGER SHOTS AT DEER WITH IT ALSO. SURPRISING THE KNOCK DOWN THIS LIGHT CALIBER HAS AT LONGER DISTANCES.

If i had only one choice of a rifle to hunt anything in the world with it would be the 30-06 but only because there is so many different bullet weights to choose from but on the other hand i do 99% of my deer hunting with my .270 Win ! I like a bolt action and have matching Remington Model 700 BDL"s in 30-06 and .270 so that"s how i feel about both calibers !!! I like a wood stock, no synthetic stock for me, i don"t like the feel of them . plus i"m old school ! LOL

son, get yourself a reloading handbook and realize the capacity of alot of weapons. best teacher out there... you want heavy lead, like the powder then take it like a man. like light lead, maybe just your preference, less powder involved and we will spare you your shoulder.
the truth is, i shot an .06 with loaded shells one season, you know what ya get, BIG BANG, . shoot , i got myself a 300 mag that will do that, by the way, check the bullet size on more calibers. if you dont have someone to reload for you, sure, i will be in federal prison before long but, pick me.
love the lead, tough enough to take the powder.

No Walker !!! Bluetick Hunter ! I AM AND ALWAYS BE A FAN AND USER OF THE 270, i can"t count the deer i have killed with mine but on the other hand you have to hand it to the 30-06 it"s been through 2 World Wars and Korea so that has to say something and from what i have read it"s still the best seller followed by the 270 in popularity ! Correct if i"m talking out my Butt !!! LOL GRIN !!!

and history buff, the 270 casing was based on the .06 in 1923. you are so right. but, i dont ever shoot the norm. ever. i am not a follower type and i never keep up with the jones.
the .06 was so massed produced for the war it had to become popular after. dime a dozen as they say.
i just dont like it, never did, never will. will i use one if i didnt have a choice??? in the words of sarah palin "you betcha" cause i will never miss a deer season.
i dont like most of the factory loads out there for any gun. too many fliers in a box. there is no consistency.
whatever gun i use, it better stay tighter than a ................., i will use a different saying, dont want kicked off the board, after 10 shells or 100, they all better be flying so consistent that the only error one can count on is human. and i have yet to see 2 boxes of factory , off the same shelf , at the same time, do that.
