Buckets

I thought I would stay out of this, and just keep reading and hope it would come to a comprimise but, I guess I'll add my two cents.

The orignal post ? was do you think it is right to cast dogs on feeders in a hunt, I would have to agree with Adam. Not all casts will be dropped on buckets, therfore casts won't have the same chances. Also if you have a dog that is hunted on feeders all the time, yea its is good to pop that quick coon up, but it relies on that feeder to get that coon. If I drop a dog and it hunts out for about 10 mins and then comes back without gettin in there and stricking something, I think first: hunted on buckets. Second I take a stick and knock fire out of him for being so sorry. If you have a dog that is dependant on buckets shoot it and maybe make a hat out of it.

Know that the fun is out of the way, everyone has their own opion on what is a coondog. I will not even share mine, just to keep someone from disagreing with me. Buckets are great for Young Dogs, to start on and brake off of them later down the learning road. If ya have an old dog that wont hunt by himself, relies on buckets, wont leave your feet, at the truck under the tailgate while your walking to somelse's treed, ill, or just plan sorry in all area's except for sleeping and eating. Cut your loses and blow the flea bag out of your misery, do somebody else a favor before it gets dropped on them, hint to the dog traders.

Realize that this is a sport for everyone to enjoy, bashing other peoples opions doesn't help the sport, or yourself. Stop crying. If you like the way you spend your coonhuntin nights, just wish sombody else luck on their methods.

WVHOUNDS

I have never seen a greater showing of ignorance in my life. So to save you makeing a fool out of yourself I will correct you on a few things. My second best dog at my house has been in 4 hunts. 2 PKC and 2 UKC. He has won in the two PKC and has got a 2nd in UKC, and he is 11 mo old. It is not about having a coondog, I have one of those. No, I didn't get beat by another dog, and my dog better not get beat on buckets or there will be some tuning up to do. 2nd, anytime you come down south bring the best you've got and I will hunt this pup againest it on buckets in the wild anywhere you wanna go. I am not saying he is better than what you have, but you run your mouth awful wreckless to have never hunted with me, or my dogs. People who know me know I don't tolerate a dog that can't do the job and do it right. Just cause a dog can run and tree don't make it a coon dog. The hunt I referred to earlier is the one that he got the second on. It's just a fact that it is an unfair advantage to other cast when your on buckets and their not. I was not whinning, or complaining, hey if you want a me tooing, wouldn't know a coon track, tree happy 10 min huntin idiot, then that is your buisness. As for me, I would rather my dog kick in their and tree a coon that is not handed to him. As I said, anytime you wanna find out how sorry of a dog I got just get with me and I will be glad to demonstrate it.

Just wondering what you folks think the difference is between hunting buckets and cornfields... In Southeast North Carolina, you can hunt farms, river swamps, or Paper Company land (Pine Plantations). If you go to our club, you might draw any one of these.

Now, the guys hunting corn fields will usually tree a couple, but the guys in the swamps and pines are going to get some hit-and-miss hunting. However, if the guide puts out a few feeders at the edge of the swamp or on a drainage ditch, they might strike a coon in the same 200 acre patch of woods that they cast the dogs in. Without feeders, the dogs might strike a track, but most of the time they're so far away that you won't even know it. Those points are shot, b/c you call timeout to locate the dogs. Occasionally, you have a deer dog on the cast to chase all night, so you burn your time that way.

The point I'm getting at is this. Hunting 40 acre patches of timber around corn fields is okay in everyone's eye, but feeder buckets on edge of a drainage ditch in a pine plantation are unfair. IMO, it's unfair to hunt "wild" without feeders on the paper company land. If you disagree, please make the drive to Delco, NC in November for our hunt. Come early, and make arrangements to hunt both. At the end of the weekend, most hunters would share this opinion.

LMAO,,

you ask for opinions,,you got mine,,all the post I seen from you on this was whinning,,that's my opinion,,now,,congrats on your accomplishments with that young dog, that's pretty good,,not outstanding, but very good nonetheless,,how can it be unfair for a cast to hunt buckets?????,can you guarantee that the coons will be on those buckets?,I doubt!!,I don't know you and have no idea how many hunts you've hunted in and really don't care,,my point is,a bucket is a feed source,,as is a persimmon patch,a cornfield,a grape vineyard,,get my point,,it's a proven fact that coons will be found where there is food,,right??a bucket is just another source of food, that is my point,I've won on buckets and I've been beat hunting on buckets by cast that were just free cast into the mtns.,,for you to come on here and say it's unfair is incorrect,,now if I caused you to get your panties in a wad, that was not my intention, maybe someday I'll be your way and be able to take ya up on that offer,,You have yourself a nice weekend!!

You didn't get my panties in a wad at all. I think you are mis understanding me. I am saying when you go to a hunt and three cast draw out and one is on buckets and the others are not then, no, it is not fair. I have not whinned one time. I could care less who hunts feeders and who don't. I am saying it is CHEAP. My whole point is that it is taking away from the titles that go along with these hunts. Part of hunting is finding the track. With feeders you increase your chances of doig that dramatically. I am not cutting on you, if you choose to hunt them then fine, my only point is that it is a very cheap way to finish a dog out.

I would settle for $10 a head on the hunt if we charged admission. : )

well I,,,

disagree , I still say a bucket is a feed source,,period,,same chances as hunting around any food source,,ok,,I'll not beat this dead horse anymore,,but however I do agree on the $10,,but can we split it 60/40??,LMAO,,Take care

Yeah, I don't mind buckets.
I just don't like the current system for championship points where the winner from the bucket cast is likely to get a first place or NT CH win. If you need a win and don't draw to that cast you might as well go home.

your saying that a cast hunting buckets will always win?,and the others never do?,,I'm confused, cause I think I've seen it happen both ways.......................

3 casts draw out, one goes to feeders, one goes to corn fields, one goes to bean fields, is this fair? Is the feeders gonna win?
What if one goes to corn field and the others go to the mountains? is this fair? Just a matter of luck.
It's all luck of the draw to me. I feel just as lucky to draw a swamp as some feeders. Or some 40ac woods around corn fields as feeders. Im with you wvhounds, just another food source, just another good place to hunt. Not unfair if you draw out in cut over and other cast draws feeders, just bad luck. Just as easy to have went the other way. It's just part of it, sometimes you dont draw as good a place as other cast. Just have a dog that a get it done in a foot of swamp water or on a bucket.
If you draw out in 2000ac of mountain cut over, just withdraw and go pleasure hunting and try again next week....lol
I like hunting in IN, Iwas hunting with a buddy up there and we cut loose down this fence row. The timber on this fence row was about 30yd wide and a strip some 400yd's long. 500ac of corn and beans on each side. The dogs just had to run a stright line til they come on a coon sent.....lol Treed 3 fore we got to the other end...lol I thought that was perty cool, so he says, Im gonna take you over to some big woods now. Im thinking now thats more like Alabama hunting, my dogs should show out. So we drove a peace and cut loose in some of the pertyest clear hard wood flat bottoms Ive seen. So I ask him, just how much land you got here in this big woods? This looks real nice. He said 250ac.....lol Im thinking, I just about have to turn down 250ac patches in Alabama, Sometimes you'll blow threw 250ac in just a little while. Less of corse you have feeders.........

I've seen dogs tree a possum on a feeder? now was it fair that the o'l boy didnt have a stright dog and there was a slick tail on the bucket?...lol (SCRATCH) and I seen dogs leave the tree on feeders, and I've seen dogs miss on feeders, I've seen dogs run trash on feeders, I've seen long races off feeders and I've seen lay ups off feeders. I've seen dogs finnish there cast with minus pt's hunting on feeders. hmm kinda sounds like there aint much difference at all.....Still got to have a dog.....
