"WHAT A TIME"!!

Corky, please note that my hand is already raised if they wanna give'er another go? Lookin forward to havin our area manager come & go some more. Wants'ta bring his grandson !

I enjoyed the tar outa chattin with them & sharin skin surface to feed the skeeters. MERCY, them things where the size of one of them personal helicoptors! Comin from a no mosquito zone to that was a bit of a heee - beee - geee- beeee moment if'n ya get my drift?

We enjoyed explainin stuff as the oportunity presented itself during our time in & out of the timber. Showin them a couple coon was but a bonus.

I was proud of the way we as a whole pesented ourselves on both sides of the spectrum. They clearly came with an open mind & the desire to learn what other things our sport entail's other than just baggin coon. In the same sense I think they really enjoyed themselves, evident by all the laughter & cuttin up after we all came tricklin in. A better mood we couldn't have dreamnt up & I was very thankful to be a small part of it.

I owe a great deal of thanks to Terry Lefflholz for takin me & my flop eared hound along on this experience. "Bum" was purty happy to get outa the yard like myself! Gettin under a couple Columbia County coon was a bonus. Huntin with freinds & takin newcomers to introduce to our sport is a very large & important part of the reasoning behind we do what we do.

John & Bill, was nice seein ya & gettin'ta share the timber with ya!

with over 2k views to this post, I do have to believe that there have been folks looking in from other states, I hope you all try to set up something like this in your home state.

It worked great here, and I feel that this will be a good start of things to come. From talking with the DNR folks I heard real positive comments;

"I had no idea what you guys did, this was great"
"This doesn't create a problem"
"this was fun, can see why you do it"
"we'll can see that there are rules that can be changed to make permitting easier"
"that plant is poisoness, I wouldn't be out here in the day light"lol
"there is really no impact from this"

what can you add to this, guys

"KUDO'S"

One ya forgot Corky was, "HAVE YA HEARD THEM COON SQUALLERS"? "THEY ARE AWESOME"!! !

Got a kick outa that!!

Things we take for granted they know nothing about. Pretty interesting if ya think about it "IF" a warden was to be listening to your summer enjoyment & hear you squallin. Maybe an understanding more so that them noise' are man made aposed to a squealin coon gettin mauled ?

Ricochet Jay, Took me a minute to realize it was Pat !! Was great seein him! Been a long time! I told him his former handler would probably like'ta see him & that we was doin our best to drag ya around to some of them Bluedawg hunts!

I did get the honor to chat with him quite a bit & sure enjoyed it! Genetics & life would have been the contributer to his new dew since we seen him. Just a guess of course?

Of course we gota give Miss Erika a "ATA GIRL" for the email that they said also helped get this to fruitation. Her devotion to OUR sport above & beyond the dawgs & coon should be deeply appreciated by all of us.I know I sure as the dickens do! She is always there in the interest of our sport/hobby/way of life & history creatin. She did come by it honestly via her father's involvment & influence. He would be & "IS" without question, "EXTREMELY PROUD" of the path she travels. As her adoptive uncle, I share them feelings & have mucho respect for the person she grew into. I can still see her with her long ponytail's & barely able to reach the bench in the kids show grinnin like a possum! Now she has a very strong influence on our youth by startin the "Ringtails" camp & any & every other way she can along with the rest of it.

Hope I didn't make ya Blush Erika but I felt it needed to be said since we as men are generally to macho to do it. I guarantee the whole state appreciates your involvment that I never see ending!

"THANK YOU"!!

We ARE very lucky to have "Miss Outdoor Wisconsin" in our ranks!!!!

How 'bout a roll call of us that got the honor to be a part of this? I'll try but deffinately not gona recall all so help me out here......

Corky,
Jason Denzer
Brian Hutchison
Ryan Spachek
Miss Erika
Terry Lefflholz
Bill & John Walz
Lisa & Savana Brooks

Who am I missin?? Maybe Corky the names of the DNR participants & their official titles? I know there was some influential bodies in attendance & I will not even begin to try to recall all of them. The "Rules Writer" bein there I especially thought was very interesting.

I recall it bein said that they was pleasently suprised by the number of women involved as well.

"YEP", WE helped open their eye's & minds !!

Well said Russ

I'll second the motion on Erika and her Pa, Eric. Two people we owe a great deal of thanks to. Eric is sure proud of that girl like the rest of us. She sure took the lead daug spot on this run and we are honored to me too on the tree.

I was hoping to add the list of DNR till after I got a copy of the attendance sheet from Eric (DNR) but I'll do my best. only order is how they come to mind.

Scott Rules guy, writes all the hunting pamphlets
Eric wildlife management Supervisior
Doug Regional wildlife Supervisor
John Furbearer Spiecalist
Pat
Mike both Wardens
???? regional warden supervisor
Don past manager of the DNR game farm
Bob current manager of the game farm
there's more but right now I've got brain lock

Russ,
It was good hunting with you and "The Bum" again. Bum had to "Show off" a little. Hopefully my biscuit eater learned something...........
Corky,
I think this was beneficial for everyone involved. Wardens got to see what happens at these events. It's not the Westminster, and It's not just a bunch of drunk'n hillbillys stumbling around the woods. And we got to see how easy a Warden can get "Turned around" in the woods at night. "Are you sure we are going towards the trucks???" Hmm makes me wonder............. Jon

Education

I enjoyed participating in this event. It will be interesting what the DNR personnel's take will be.
One issue that wasn't touched upon was dog retrieval from posted land. A legal method needs to be agreed upon as the chosen course of action in the event that it happens and the property owner refuses to allow the dog owner access to retrieve the dog. DNR could be very valuable in developing a best practice.
Thanks to all who attended especially the ones that coordinated it; Erica and Corky.

Yes, there are some people from other states watching this, and let me say THANK YOU to everyone involved with this hunt. I am very happy that it went well. We will probably never do anything like this in my area, but I now can refer DNR/law enforcemant people to a "professional" source for information which they will respect----other game management professionals. Any information we share with these people that they can then substantiate with others in their field based on FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE carries more weight. So, once again, to all those who had a part in this event, thank you!

P.S. I may be contacting one of you for some names/contact information soon. We met a park ranger at our vehicles at the end of our UKC cast Saturday night. Although he was very reasonable and friendly, he was absolutely clueless about coon hunting in general, and comp. hunting at all. The situation had potential to be problematic.

You are 100% rite Ken. Never even crossed my mind because we don't deal with them issues,"BUT",have in the past. The potential is there more so than ever with the growth that seem's to never take a break. I could relay enough stories of doin the Military crawl with bullets & BB's flyin at us to retreive our hounds that I could write a small book or a long story, depending on the day.

Several times takin BB's that thank god where at the end of their penetrating range while we's skidaddlin the other way with our lites off & dogs on a double getn wrapped around everything. NOPE,sure don't miss Livin in that country. Then there was the guy shootin across Avon marsch with a 30-06 takin limbs off just above mine & Ron Wendtlands heads.Sure was cool though seein the cops wadin through loon poop after US because they got called & told we was the ones. They got that chap & he had free room & board for a while. Was shooting at our lites & drunk.

Anyways, I think that is something maybe all of us should bring up in the survey's they done sent us? We had the ultimate opportunity & missed the boat but givin a second chance of sorts we need'ta capitalize off'n. I truly beleive they hear us now in a extremely posative way. Here's our chance......

Never say never. Invite your local warden or what have you to go along some night? Ya know them chaps gather & talk about THINGS. One toe in the door is better than none. All these state officials that went with us had nary a clue about what we do. They got an idea now & they seemed to really enjoy OUR sport. Amazing ground breaking stuff for us that took some doin to acheive but we did!

One of our spectators about had a heart attack when Pat started squalling. Funny how stuff we take forgranted is so new to some.
I agree with the retrivial part. I haven't had to duck bullets yet but have had people shooting in the air to scare a dog out of thier yard. Not real cool!!

Another great big "Thank You" to Corky. This project has been in his sights for quite a long time. Corky has been commited to defending and gaining rights for coonhunters in WI for many years....I've seen him represent us for most of my life, and likely most of his. For our cause, he has traveled many miles, spent endless hours, and given so much of himself. He has had some great triumphs, but has also had seemingly endless battles. This recent cooperative effort with the DNR has brought us one giant leap forward. I am thrilled that we pulled this off so successfully, and that Corky got some gratification for all that he has put in to it.
Our cast included several from the DNR, and it seemed to exceed all of their expectations. They made several comments in our favor, and promised to deliver the message to those who couldn't make it. They had so much fun that several asked when they could come again. The squalling really was the highlight, though most admitted they would be terrified if they heard that kind of a raucous in the woods at night!
Thanks again to Corky, all of the hunters, and even to the dogs for showing their best when it counted the most!

Very well put Miss Erika! I don't think we can ever give Mr Corky enough credit for his life long work. We need'ta support him & help when he asks if at all possible.

This was an exceptionally giant step in the rite direction that would have never came to fruitation had he have turned the other cheek like so many do eagerly.

Corky, "WE SALUTE YOU & THANK YOU" my freind !

enough of the "hugs and kisses"

I do appreicate all the nice words, but.........

1. I'm a coon hunter and I want me and mine to be able to keep on doing what we love to do

2. what I do for coon hunting I do for myself, because I cannot wait for someone to do it for me.

3. We did this demo for our sport, as a group, no one of us could have pulled it off by ourselfs. The applause goes to the group, that feels the same way I do.

4. maybe we got 1st strike on this trail and the rest of the pack around the country will pack in and tree the meat.

5. remember the old saying "what's the sound of one hand clapping?"
