I have fed diamond for years, this past year I switched to Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice. My hounds have plenty of energy and great looking coats with no problems of bad stools. If you look at the ingredients they are way better than Black Gold, High Standard, and others. The number one ingredient is straight chicken. High Standard and Black Gold is nothing But Bone Meal or more fillers for the first ingredients.

Hi-Standard has several products with chicken meal as the first ingredient. when i am hunting dogs hard i move them to the 30-20 fresh chicken and rice product. they also have a 26-18 and 23-16 with chicken meal as first ingred. just fyi

Mizzou

I just checked the HI Standard website and I see where no dog food made by them has straight CHICKEN as the number one ingredient. Chicken Meal is not just straight chicken it is a filler and it has more fillers in it than the Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice, just FYI

If I may...... Chicken Meal is just chicken that has already been cooked down. Whole Chicken is a Chicken that has not yet been processed.

Chicken BY-PRODUCT MEAL is everything from the chicken BUT Chicken Meat. ie feathers, feet, and beaks.

If a company list Chicken as the #1 ingredient what they are doing is adding the whole chicken along with the rest of ingredients ie corn, brewers rice, whole grain wheat, and so on.

The problem is that a whole Chicken is like a human body it is made up of about 75-80% water and when its is processed (cooked) it drops from #1 ingredient to about #5 which allows for corn to #1.

Now if a company list CHICKEN MEAL as the #1 ingrdient when it is processed (cooked) it stays #1 because it was already processed (cooked) before it was added and all the water is gone.
so if they tell you there is 10 lbs of chicken in the formula there is 10 lbs of chicken. Where as if they tell you there is 10 lbs of WHOLE CHICKEN in the formula there is really only 2 lbs.

I hope this helps !!!

This statement is false.

Good reply

Good reply johnsoncreekblu, this is what i have came up with. Chicken and Turkey meat contain 70% water and 15% protein before processing into dog food. Chicken and Turkey MEAL contain 10% water and over 50% protein before processing into dog food. But on the other hand I have used diamond green bag for a long time and have found it to be better than anything even close to the price range.

4health

We recently switched to 4health from Tractor Supply. We were very surprised that all of our beagles as well as our puppies love it. Their coats are already shining and they are maybe too energetic. We also let A bowl of black & gold sit out for them. We were feeding Puppy Chow, but we read about dyes etc. I am noticing less waste & I dont think they eat as much either.
