Now that Hank Jr one is cool. Should check his web site if he has one and see if he could be contacted to see if he still owns hounds.

Dale Murphy used to hunt with us. I have a pic somewhere but don't know how to get it on the computer. Herschel Walker hunted Plotts with John Vickers when he was growing up in Georgia.

hank jr.

approx. 27 years ago when oliver close had the "hickory hill school for coondogs" in nova, ohio, oliver and i were sitting around waiting for it to get dark. i said, it's about time to hit the timber. oliver said that we had to wait for someone, that they were coming here to buy and pick up a dog. oliver had a bluedog, a good blue dog that he bought to sell. a truck pulled into the drive and who got out of it ? i told oliver that i've seen the man somewhere, it was hank jr. and he was the one who bought the dog. we sat around for a while and eventually went hunting. he like the bluedog and paid oliver $3500.00 and headed back to mississippi. he said he wanted the bluedog for bear, but he'd coonhunt it too and yes, he did hunt plottdogs as well. true story.

Neil Young has stated that his song "Old King" is a tribute to a deceased Bluetick Coonhound he once owned.
"King went a-sniffin' and he would go
Was the best old hound dog I ever did know"

if he coon hunted or not is beyond my area of expertise but he did own a bluedog. take it for what its worth.

David Spade used to coon hunt with Walkers, maybe still does (not sure where he actually lives). I also knew David Duchovny coon hunted, he talked about on "In the Actors Studio". You can still see his name on some bluetick pedigrees. Had a GrNtCh named Radar.

This is a great thread. I like to hear about celebs that support our heritage. That way we know who is on our side and we can support them as well.

Thats wild man. Neither one of those guys seem like the coonhuntin kind , but I would have sure enough pegged justin moore as one lol, but I quess not.

I looked up alfalfa on wikipedia. Its did say he bred dogs and was a hunting guide but it said he was killed at a mans house tryin to collect money for a dog. I dont no Ive heard somtimes wikipedia aint the most trustable place also.

He was also the uncle of Larry Sheets, former MLB player for Baltimore and Detroit. My dad met Garland and the Grand American one year and told me about him, almost exactly word for word what you wrote, plus the part I added.

This just shows how much ya'll know about celebrity coon hunters. I cant believe the first one named wasn't the King of coon hunters, the man that put us on the map, the one, the only JERRY CLOWER! This is one of 2 men that when you hear their name you stand and take your hat off. The other was Earnhardt. Dale Earnhardt coon hunted, I went with him 2 times.

The owner of Bama hunting supply told me he sold some hunting equip. to a guy that runs a bird hunting place and also is a coonhunter. The guy had a pro quarterback and a offensive lineman come down to his place for a bird hunt and ended up going coon hunting w/him that night. On the coon hunt they treed some coons, but the hound they were hunting ended up getting up in the last tree and falling out. The man who owned the hound took it to the vet that night and got the dog patched up. The quarterback called on the way home and took care of the vet bill. The QB was once a VOL and now plays for Indy, can't think of his name. lol

Reba

I'm not sure about Reba. If y'all remember a few years back she took a pretty hard hit about an anti-gun gig she did. It was a once and done for the anti-gun gig for the lady that tried to give an "Annie Oakley" impression to the Country Western world.. She took a pile of heat for it.
