IF A NITE HUNT IS CONSIDERED JUST TRAINING THEN WHY IN THE PAST DID CLUBS HAVE TO GET A PERMIT FROM THE GAME COMMISION TO HAVE A HUNT. AND YES UKC CALLS THEM NITE HUNTS.

Also as to the laws. The little books that they give to you when you purchase your licsense is just a pamphlet. The law man will have a very large book that will interpret the law alot better than you or I ever could.

As for baiting all your hunting spots out of season. Well when season come in you have to have it gone by a certain amount of time ( maybe a week or two ) I am not sure on that. So if your buckets are full to train all week Friday and Saturday would not be legall.

I am just saying check it out before it is to late. Maybe call Pa game commission and find out for sure then post it on here so we all know.

90 days before the opening day of season bait is not permitted to be cast. In the past, yes you did have to get a permit, but that is no longer so because once again, since no firearms are being carried, it is considered just training.

That's just my 2 cents and how I've lived by the game laws here my entire life. I will continue to put feeders out where I do when I want to. I will and have in the past paid any fines I was responsible for. In this particular case, however, I'm pretty certain that training coon hounds over bait outside of season, within 90 days of the start of the season, is not ILLEGAL in the state of PENNSYLVANIA.

What a officer writes you a ticket for and what they can make stick if you want to fight it is a lot differant. One man one dog NO GUN on land that he has permission to be on. Most states would have a hard time getting you for any hunting violation........

Rob ...Joe the catch word here is HUNT.Rob, in Pa we do not even need a license to train a dog.If you don't intend to kill a coon you can run all year without a hunting license.Training over feeders yes, hunting over feeders no.

Hey guys, I am just curious here. In the Va. game laws it is written that you cannot hunt over any bait, even without a gun. I think in the U.K.C. by laws it states that something about while on a hunt you are to abide all state and local laws. My question is: If the quide takes you to his buckets and the cast knows they are hunting them and majority of the cast sees the buckets. Is this a scratchable offense to the quide???? Not trying to offend anyone by my asking. I just was curious???? Could I get some input with this question. Thanks.

I would say they would have to turn them selves in or some one would have to catch them and prove what they were doing and that the cast members knew what they were doing.

Pat / Joe, thank you for trying to clear this up, I still feel there are alot of gray areas that they could get you on. I just do not want to see anyone get into trouble where ever you hunt. I have two uncles who are game wardens here in Maryland and you need to see there law books. The way that most people interpret what they think the law is is usually wrong. You should here them give you the definitions of the law out of there books. I learned alot differently what I thought for years was correct.

But I still do not like them in the hunts. But everyone has there own opinions and reasons for that. I do use them to start a young dog. And I have a young Utchman female I plan on starting off them.

Pat I saw a picture of you and a black dog ( could not believe it ) LOL I had one remember. Your dog looked good. But keep em blue.

And again thanks.

Ps I do hunt Pa and Wv quiet offten.

Only experienced bucket hunting once at a big hunt in Michigan
were they definetely weren't needed to tree coon. My dog did tree first on the first one but on the second one all the dogs but the guides, who knew he just had to run down the trail to the
next bucket, winded an old track to the side and started working
the old track. The guides dog was treed a minute later on the
bucket down the trail and able to recast while ours were still working the old track. Now if the guide isn't hunting a dog it's
not so bad, but it's a big advantage to a dog that knows right where to find the next bucket from what I saw.

I think they can be a great tool for starting young dogs. but i think their should be some sort of penalty for anyone caught using them in the hunts. JMO
