See the whole point of a coon hunt is to see which dog can "strike" and tree the most coon. A dead coon hanging does not leave a track. Sure the rules say to plus it when a coon is seen but not a DEAD coon. If the dog has a good enough nose to wind it then good for it but it can't be plussed.

The only way to score it is jus like any other tree. Ignore the dead coon and start shinning the tree for another coon or a hole. If the tree is found to be slick then that dog is minused its strike and tree points.

A true lay up doesn't have a track going to it either though.
Why wouldn't a dog get scratched for comeing to it's handler just becouse it has a coon in it's mouth?

Grady, coming back to the owner is not a scratchible offense unless the dog was not hunting for 30 minutes of hunt time. In other words standing at the owners feet or milling around the cast.

What happens when a dog kills a coon in a hole? The dog only recieves strike points. Why? Because the coon is dead.

I thought it was becouse there was no tree to score.
I didn't know a dog could hang out with you for 30 minutes at a time either though. I thought they were supose to appear to be hunting atleast.

A hole is scored the same as a tree Grady.

So if a coon is seen in the hole you get your tree points and if not it is circled?

dead coon

How long did the dogs run the track ? If it was a long time , I would say the coon probably had a heart attack trying to out run
the dogs . So therefore PLUS STIKE ... PLUS TREE (just kidding)

What breed of dog was it? That will tell us if it was posible for it to be that cold nosed. Had to be a bluetic or an old style B&T to make the cold nose thing beleiveable.

Livestock????? I'm pretty sure we don't have any cat ranchers around here. Although I think you may be on to something there.

how are you blaming the dog and saying you wouldnt take a win and to minus it for not running track like sumone else said what if in fact your dog did run that track from where a guy laid a drag and left it there cause i leave coon in trees all the time?

dogs treeing cats are not scratched they are minused unless you see a coon also. they are not game animals and they are not livestock... If you go by the rules strictly you can not scratch a dog for treeing a cat.

P.S. Yes haha it was a blue dog

If you will keep reading there is a line drawn threw the points. Can't score a dead coon in a tree. BUT even if you could my dog will not win a hunt treeing a dead coon. He knows it is dead,he knows not to mess with a dead coon and I AM NOT TAKEING A WIN FROM SOMEONE ELSE THAT DESERVES IT BY TREEING A DEAD COON or anything else I can't feel good about.
