I believe the dogs name was Dawn`s Timber Jack,he was owned by a guy named Paul Craft.I seen him win a cast by treein coon off too himself while everything else in the cast minused out!The longer he treed off by himself, the better he liked it, always had the coon! That is what I call the right kind,I don`t care what color they are, if they do it like I saw him do it!

In the 80's, DeCarol Wiiliamson bought a male dog that was named Salt River Augie, that wsa the best red dog that I have ever seen. Also, Maima River Little Red was not bad.

I've owned a couple red dogs and had one real nice one that was Coffman's Smokin bred. I was fixin to move and got tired of hunting an old dog so I sold him down to Tennessee the boy has made him Nite Champ with a couple wins.

However, the best red dog I've hunted with was probably Nt Ch Dry Valley Smokin Jesse. Mr. Gene Krutsinger in Flora, IL owned him and he was a nice hound.

Dad hunted him at US Redbone days at Flora years ago, had never heard the dog bark. Friday night he came out of the box growling (he had been bred a lot) so Dad withdrew him before any problems started. Saturday night Jesse scored 750+ with Dad handling him. Other dogs got in a corn field and Jesse scooted around the outside and treed a couple while they were running around in the corn. I had a young dog out of him that was starting to look good but I traded him for a Black male (I was 15 and stupid-I had to shoot the black dog, should have kept the red dog).

red dog

Best red dog i ever hunted with was a female named Kay owned by Allen Bohnert in Indiana way back in the late 70's or early 80's. Ray Bradbury in Hymera Indiana has had some good ones also i just cannot remember their names.

Best Red Dog?

By far , the best I ever hunted with was an old Grade female that my Dad owned. As far as registered dogs I've hunted with a pile of red dogs through the years and Veechel Coffey's Mike dog was the best Redbone that I ever went to the woods with, coon dog all the way through.

Sam Hodges has one named Ghost I drew out with a couple of weeks ago. Wasn't such a great hunt but I saw him under a coon and he had an un-godly big mouth.

I can honestly say thats the first tree with a coon in it I've ever seen a Redbone under.

best redbone

well i did'nt want to show my age but here it goes . i started out with my uncle and my grand dad , in 1956, at the ripe old age of 5 . i never knew there was any other color of coon dog but red, til i was about 15 . believe it or not , i've seen several good ones. but i'd say the best i ever hunted with or against ,was without a dought famous amos . when he got killed the red dogs lost one of the best ever.now then , one other comes to mind ch.nite ch.' pr' hunters timber chopper .now i know their's alot of you out there that like to poke fun at the bones , but any honest man will tell you , when you drew out either of these two dogs you had better have your game face on.

Dead serious. I've hunted with probably 10 and Sam Hodges' is the only 1 I've seen under a coon.

Gr Nite Ch S&J's Ironwood Kate and Nite Ch Snow's Izzy are the best 2 red dogs I've hunted with.

I seen Kate put on a performance one night that would impress anyone no matter what color you prefer. Seen Kate look bad too, but overall a nice hound. Good strike dog, stay put tree dog, and independent. She doesn't walk on water, but she is probably the best red dog I've hunted with.

I watched Bob Snow and Izzy go head to head with my Dad and his Maggie bitch a few nights. They traded Cast wins for quite awhile. Regardless of which one won the cast, both would be the highest scoring 2 dogs of the entire hunt. Had the priviledge to have Izzy here for a couple months trying to get her last Nite Ch win after Bob lost his leg. We never would have done that if we didn't believe she was a coondog. During that time I seen her look good, seen her look ok and seen her look bad. She wasn't the same dog when Bob wasn't hunting her. I always hoped she'd get that last win as she was worthy of it. Dad blew a chance in one hunt, but Izzy blew her chance in a couple too.

Gr Nite Ch Mosquito Creek Red Hot Angus was a good one. I always liked hunting with ol' Angus. He and Steve were quite the pair.

I guided Tom Solberg with the Stonewall Rebel dog one night years back. Littermate to Rabble Rouser I think. Rebel didn't do anything flashy but he seemed to be consistent about what he did. I recall he treed one off by himself.

Steve Nodean, Bob Snow, & Tom Solberg... all super good redbone guys. Steve and Bob are 2 of the best guys I've met in the sport.

I believe they were mother and daughter. Yes I walked to Merchants Red Buck many a time. He was nice, but dang those stocked legged pups he through. Bellar Lil Red, if she lives a natural life, will go down as one of the winningest Redbones alive.
