the guy that started this post just wanted to know what other people thought about feeder buckets being used in a competition hunt. it was directed at anybody who hunts coon. it was not meant to be taken personally by anybody. just wanted opinions dont think anybody needs clubbed in the head or any ill will towards anybody. just dont think you have a level playing field when your hunting against guides with bait buckets. seriously if your hunting the best dog you've ever seen why would you need a bait bucket to run up a score? hunting over buckets is fine just shouldnt be used in competition. after all you didnt drive from lainsburg to springport for the sake of spending gas money, it was to run up a score on your hot feeder buckets.

Around here the dogs that wax your backside on buckets will usually wax your backside on wild coons just as easily. Ive had the pleasure of owning a REAL coondog and that being the case Ive heard ALL the arguments on both sides of the fence. FWIW Ive put more wins on my dogs away from home than I have at home. Buckets or wild, dont make a hill of beans difference to me.

Majestic Tree H. you are right! In Virginia, if you are caught baiting or using feeder buckets you are in huge TROUBLE! Darkman, I think your are right some folks have titled many hounds off of feeder buckets and yes they tree those easy coon, but the reason they don't win away from home is because sometimes those hounds have to go find a coon and that is where some (not all) bucket dogs have problems. I will not say whether I hunt buckets or not SEEMS TO ME YOU MIGHT BE SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR SOME TROUBLE, IF THE RIGHT FOLKS READ THIS! Especially, if you are from Va. I'm sure other states outlaw buckets too! LOL!!!!

The same law that pertains to Running or Hunting off a Baited Site Covers Every Critter that lives in the State ..

Just try to tell the Judge that hey the "250 acres of Acorns on the Ground is the same as the Feeders" ..

This sums up alot of things especially in Virginia!

I would vote no to feeders in competion hunts and anyone caught hunting off feeders should be banned from the hunts, coonhunting should get to it's roots, COONHUNTING defines it's own meaning. Feeders is COON TREEING not COONHUNTING.

I've hunted three casts in a row on buckets and didn't score a single coon. Buckets don't guarantee anything, but you wouldn't know that by reading these threads.

...............gotta agree with that.........any area, buckets or not.........you may not have a good hunt if it's been hunted to death................the coons don't move till around 2am, way after the casts get back in..........and sometimes they just don't move well at all..........ps-off topic.......Mr. Singletary, I worked a dove hunt for the DNR over there near Eutawville about 4 years ago...............man, more dove than I've ever seen!!!!!!!.lol

At Eutaw Springs, that's about 5 minutes from the house. They usually have a good shoot there. The DNR does a good job with public shoots in SC, we have several places that normally have birds.

like some of the guys from va have said feeders here are illegal, get caught and you wont hunt for a while, not worth it in my opinion.also its my opinion that the use of feeder buckets over and over will hurt an experienced hound,it will take the drive to "hunt" right out of em.i have experienced this with deer hounds, too much time in a fox pen or too many drops on deer in a field takes their desire to hunt slam out of them, always looking for the easy way instead of using their nose to find what it is they are after.just my opinion

Va. State Just dos'nt Like Me !!

I just Don't know What it is about Me and Virginia State.. I'am a Magnet for the Game Dept.. lol

1.st Violation was when I was 16 years old, I had Just bought a new Cast Net in Occoquan Va. .. Herring Season was in and Was a Great Run.. Well after buying the Net I walked down to the River and their was maybe 100 Fokes their Dip Netting Herring and Shad , I throw that Net and it was so heavy with Fish that 2 other fokes help me bring it in .. I thank them and gave them all the fish, Filled 5 - 5gal buckets and I felt Good about it plus I did'nt have any buckets anyway.. About Then I was getting ready to throw again and a Hand was on my shoulder .. Well the Green Suit and Badge told the whole story !! Busted for Dipping without a Permit !!

2.nd Violation was when I was 17 years old, I had been Deer Hunting in Quantico Virginia .. Killed my First Deer Ever by Myself and I was at least a mile and a half back in from my Car.. Well I gutted my deer put my belt around its neck and started Dragging .. 2 hours later I was about 100 yards from my car and 2 Green Suits are walking up to me, Well I was All Smiles and on top of the World ... The Greenies ask me for my lic. which I pulled out of my wallet and Guess what !! I forgot to Tag my Deer at the Place Of Kill .. Busted Again and yes they gave me a ticket ..

3.rd Violation was when I was 18 years old .. I had gone to a Turkey Shoot in Stafford Virginia .. On the way home at 1:00 am I hit a deer and Well not wanting it to go to waste I put it in the Trunk of the Car .. And yes their was Blood all over the Bumper along with bloody had prints on the Trunk .. 15 min. later while driving over a hill Their in the road is a Sobriety Check Point .. Yes I had a coup. Sips on a Jug of Lightning at the Turkey Shoot .... Well my breath was like Pure Grain so they asked me to get out of my Car and put my hands on the Trunk Well That Blood Lit Up like X-Mas and the Cop got alittle Rougher with me at that point .. Cuffs and the whole Nine Yards .. Put me in the Cruzer and one had my blow the Analyzer which only showed a .02 Whoo ..At the same time the Cop was opening my Trunk .. And I guess he was relived to See it was only a Deer in their .. But the Cops Weren't Done with me !! Scenes I wasn't legally drunk they still wanted my Butt .. So they Decided to Call the Cop in Green ... Who was really Pissed cuz they had woke him Up ..

Sure enough Busted for Failure to Report a the Killing and Possession Out of Season ........

Well all that was my 3rd Strike .. 1 year suspension of Hunt or Fishing Anywhere !!!!!

More Violations Too Come !!
