We always feed all our pups we raise Purina Puppy Chow. We brought home a couple pups this spring from Indiana they were being fed Purina Pro-Plan and they looked great on it but we can't even get it up here.

Lee , the Diamond Naturals around here are $23 vs. ProPlan at $37 .

The Diamond Extreme Athlete is over $30 , but not the Naturals.

TJ,

it sounds like your dogs are just shedding. their hair color will lighten up when this happens........it will come out on its own and they'll have a bright shiny new coat.

The absolute best food you can buy right now for your hound since it is summer time is purina pro plan, shredded chicken formula, and now i will tell you why this food is a 26-16 and it is a chicken by product dog food, in the summer time you want to feed a chicken by product because the dog will not store this into there cells and create heat, in fact corn by product stores in the animals cells and makes the hound much hotter.also chicken has natural glucosoymine in it , which is great for a hounds joints and makes it easy for the oxygen to travel to the muscles. as far as the price this food is more expensive yes but if the hound utilizes every bite they eat its worth it, compared to the hound only using 90 % of the feed

Mr Stocking, around here all the diamond naturals are around the 22-24 dollar price range, beef/chicken/lamb, 40# bags, not counting the extreme natural....

TJ, the Pro-Plan around here comes in around a 35 lb bag, and the price seems to vary based on the formula. Last time I looked at Tractor Supply it was $30-35 a bag for the Chicken and Rice formula, but sometimes they have it on sale. Petsmart seems to always have the 35 lb. bag of it for $26.99 if you have one of their free "PetPerks" cards. I believe the Lamb and Rice ran a little higher than the chicken or beef formulas, and the Performance was around $40 when it wasn't on sale last time I bothered to check.

I fed Pro Plan for awhile and didn't care for it. I went back to Pzazz it's as good as anything out there and won't break you.

I would love to be able to feed Pro-Plan or Diamond Natural Athlete, but my pocket book will not allow it. Currently feeding several dogs (coonhounds, beagles and fox hounds) and have been feeding Hi-Standard for several years. I am sure Pro-Plan is a great feed, but with the Hi-Standard all of my dogs are healthy, slick coat, good stamina in the field and my concrete pens are very easy to clean. What else can I expect from a dog food?

I like the shredded blend by purina but the price increase and bag size decrease has lead me to think purina has lost their mind.

The dog chow use to be 55lb and now down to what ever it is now.

I will give some advice that I have done a lot of research on. Look around at your local dealers and see if you and some buddys can get together and buy a bulk amount of the feed you and others buy. If you ask to buy it by the pallet some, not all of the dealers will come down on the price. I am just trying to help out here.

Also sometimes there are auctions on the internet where you can buy odds and ends dog food. There is nothing wrong with the feed.

What they do is put all of the damaged bags together and try and get some money out of what they have. I recently bought a whole bunch of damaged bags of purnina odds and ends from an auction. For 27 bucks.

There was
6 small bags of puppy chow
4 bags of the largest bags of puppy chow
2 bags of the 34lb shreded blend
3 bags of the pro plan lamb and rice
2 bags of the pro plan beef and ????
and they still all had the weight circles still on em!!!!

There was a lot more than that, that is all that I can think of right now.

I am lookin into trying to find a dealer around my area at this time for better discounts and prices to help more of the hunters out. If anyone has any info that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Luke Hauf

I have found the key is NEVER feed really high end feed because then you never know the difference.

I have fed PZAZZ, Ultra, Bil-Jac, Black Gold, Diamond 24/20, Kirkland, Enhance and Buckeye. I never noticed one bit of difference in any aspect of dog performance. The only think I ever noticed was less or more stool.

Maybe I just don't pay enough attention but I feed black gold right now and my dog goes out like she is shot out of a gun every dump. I think if you have a dog with desire, what they are fueled with will only make a difference in the most extreme conditions. JMO,
