We found 2 wal-mart bags full Saturday evening. Check south facing hillsides that have alot of cedar or downed logs.

Yeah they are not quite as good as the others but we still fry them and eat em !! We always called them hickory chickens.

Coonsmen.... they were found in Ky. On the side of a hill facing southeast and were in thick dead brush in the woods around some downed wild cherry and young hickory trees.

Nice grays.

We went back up this morning and got another mess that I 'd left yesterday.

The next picture shows a small gray like what deadmanswalker showed and a small yellow.
actually got over 300 just yesterday and today in this one spot.

No probably not

No they don't have quite the flavor of a good grey or yellow but we eat them non the less . I like to use the Col. Sanders seasoned flour and mix a little corn meal in with it to roll them in.

I would prefer a big mess of grays and yellows but these are worth picking when the others are scarce.

There is one poisionous fake morel that you have to look out for. It is a "half free' (the stem goes up into the head) like the spikes, but it will have a "brain tissue" look to the head and not the true honey comb look about it . I actually found one of those this mornng but threw it away before the pics were taken.
