When stationed in Beaufort in 1995 I saw a cougar, panther, what ever you want to call it being chased by a pack of deer dogs. I was in a stand still hunting at the time, they chased it out of the marsh. It was brown but it was a big cat and I think it might have been a mother leading them away because it was kinda toying with them instead of leaving them in the dust.
Never saw another one down there, but with all the deer they have plenty to eat.
