Picking up the dog food tomorrow. Getting 300 lbs. for around $80, tax included. Going to add a little grape jelly for good measure! I should have about 20 buckets filled up by this weekend. Hope we can tree a few for the "big hunt"!!!

I bet they've seen several acres of planted corn. What is the difference between turning loose close to a corn field or having a feeder bucket set out? It happens at every hunt no matter what state or what registry, there will be a cast turning loose on feeder buckets.

If you ever hunted around corn fields, you wouldn't have to ask what is the dif. I have seen corn field races burn alot of your time up in a nite hunt

I second that motion that is exactly right. Example 3 yrs ago same hunt. I didn't hunt Friday night but was pleasure hunting my spots. Guy up the road gives me a call and wants to bring a cast in there. Guys score 525 in about a hour or less next night I guide Steve Burkholder and the Lou dog. We hunted two hrs never seen a flipping thing. That is the way it goes. One night they are there the next maybe not. Not is guarenteed

I don't have to ask what the difference is...I've turned loose north where there is planted feeder buckets in just about every direction. Yeah, you can get some races that burn up some time in a corn field, but you can also get an old feed track by a feeder bucket that will burn up some time.

You must of not had a Walker dog in the cast the second night or you would have seen some coon. lol lol

Hunting buckets in competition is simply not right. Every cast will not be hunting buckets therefore it makes for an uneven playing field. The luck of the draw is not competition in my eyes. Its like having a fishing tournament with half the people fishing in barrels full of fish and the other half fishing in huge lakes. Its just not an even test of dogs. If UKC would go to cast wins only it would eliminate this problem.

The real test of a dog would be to turn loose in a wildlife management area that has been hunted to death, and see who comes up with some coons, competing with the other three dogs in the cast and not worried about how many points its going to take to win or what the other casts are doing.

We had one Walker and two blue dogs. LOL!!!!!! I was hunting my Ole Max dog that night. We made a couple trees but they were dens or slick.

Consider this scenario. Where I live it would also be the luck of the draw if we didn't use feeders. We have mtns, foothills, flatland, and small swampy areas all within reasonable driving distance. Some may draw out and go to the mtns where the coon population is low. Some may draw out and go to the flatland/small swampy areas where the coon are more plentiful! Get the picture!

I definitely can understand that. All im saying is if the rules are changed to a cast win only and having to have plus points the "luck of the draw" would be eliminated. Then all you would have to worry about is beating the people in your cast, and not where the other casts are hunting.

But how will they determine who wins the tie breaker of the dogs with double casts wins. It will be the highest single score or combined score. A hunter will still have to rack up a pretty good score, don't you think so!!!
