People are goin' on about if you don't spend a bunch of money on pups they are inferior. Well what about the hill folk that don't do a whole lot and those dogs turn out fine. What about the folks that own the male and female and don't give shots etc until the pups are 6 weeks and THOSE pups are fat and healthy and full of piss and vinegar.

You can't judge a dog on how it starts out its life. If you asked someone when they're dog got its first shots and worming when it was a pup and you didn't like the answer would you NOT breed your female or male to it? Would you not buy it?

Be realistic.

I agree. It's not cheap to raise a litter of pup and take care of the momma dog but people do it every day on a shoe string budget and those dogs turn out just fine.


I'd love to know how many CH or Nite CH were given to people for free.

i would say going from way back a lot of your world ch dogs where bought at 75-100 price range and we have gone up from there. but as a whole most pups sell in the 200-500 range. and dont think a lot of the pups out of wrld ch dog dont get given away to top trainer.handler. now a lot are resold for more money as they get good or what ever but the first sold price will be close to the price i posted i bet.

Paying a top price for a pup most certain doesn't mean your going to get a great dog. It doesn't matter if its given to you or you pay 2000 dollars for one. I have been on the recieving end both ways and guess what, If you don't take the proper training techniques than they will both be worth the same in a couple years. Now like most, I would rather have a pup with proven winners in the background because chances are that the pup will pick up its traits from one. Just because those dogs have won doesn't mean that they will suit me, so therefore you need to do homework and find out the style you like. Would I buy another one for big money, yes I would, but I don't think their worth it at that young of age, and you have no way of knowing if their going to make it. So, if you are a newcomer, I would reccomend not get in over your head or you could be in for a let down. But, as long as the breeders have waiting list on these kind of pups, don't look for the price to go down anytime soon. JMO. TIm

Gawd,

I did not mean to start a firestorm! I was simply trying to demonstrate that it takes some money to raise pups. I was simply trying to find what folks thought was expensive.

I realize that depending on where you are at, and what your puppy raising "program" is, that you can shave some dollars here and there....I demonstrated to everyone what I feel is the "right" way to raise a pup up. NOT the only way....not the "cheapest" way...but the way I do it.

You don't have to agree with it, and you don't have to like it. When you get a pup from me, this is what you get, so you know what your paying for!

Oak Ridge you do it the right way,nothing to defend.Puppies take alot of time and money if done properly.And you and I care enough about our name I'm not going to have someone come to my house and pick up a potbellied wormy pup!!!

I have been to one of the greatest reproducing dogs of all times owners house & his pups he raised definitley left something to be desired. some of the poorest raised pups i've ever seen. he could of definitley used a person that could raise pups helping them. some people just don't go the extra mile on pups , but these pups definitley made it. now from a buyers perspective i in no way would have given the $400. for one of them because of the condition of these pups for fear they would become anemic or sick because of their condition & not live. also this same person still is a very prolific individual in the coondog world & still winning with this stock of dogs so go figure lol & i'm very proud of the pups i raise & go all out doing it but it could be done cheaper i suppose

you know some say don't even bother with something free well i have had free dogs and i have paid for dogs but my dog in a life time was free and healthy. she turned out t be a nice little female treed 12 coons and all seen but one the first night i had her out after i got her. What i regret is i didn't recieve any papers on her at all and what pups she had I didn't keep any of them. she was 2 1/2 whe i got her and turning 15 this spring so I thought on the 15th of december 2008 she started slipping into kidney failure well i had t put her down and it felt like someone was pulling my heart out of my chest with thier bare hands. sometimes the best things are free and sometimes not. You know i hope everyone cherishes thier best friend because they can be here one day and gone in the blink of an eye. I know i'm have a rough time getting over my dog in a life time and whats rough about it is when i go out and feed I go stright to her run to feed her first like always done and i still catch my trying to feed her first then I realize all over again she not here anymore then all i can do is sit in the kennel and cry like a baby all over again. it's funny us guys are suppose to be tuff and not cry but when it comes down to dogs and family we're like babies.
