PKC PAYS THE BUILDING RENT. I CAN REMBER BACK IN THE 80 WHEN WE HAD THE UKC WORLD WHEN IT WAS A WEEK LONG. PLUS WE HELD THE AKC HUNT IN 2006. I THINK WE COULD GET ENOUGH CLUBS TO HELP OUT. EVER CLUB USELY WORKS TOGETHER AROUND HERE. THAT IS VERY APPRECIDATE. IF WERE GOING TO KEEP THESE BIG HUNTS GOING WE ALL NEED TO WORK TOGETHER.

The PKC World Hunt in northern Indiana? No way! 300+ dogs in the woods for 10 straight nights? Yeah, right. Not a chance.

I have to wonder why it is so important to some of you that we have a World hunt where you claim there are almost no coons? What exactly is that to prove? Who has the best private spots? Who is the luckyest? You guys talk about your dogs covering 2 miles to find a coon.....wow! I'm impressed! Now try to score on that two mile coon in a nite hunt. How bout we all just say "Hell yes, I'm totally impressed with you southern boys and your super go hunting hpunds". Ok? You guys are the best and you got the best! Now maybe we can get back to reality and hunt where it is fun to hunt cause if I'm not treeing cons, I got no reason to be there.

For a grown dog, feeder bucket's are a crutch. Nothing more. You either have to have a dog that will go find a coon or you have to bring the coons to the dog. That's all there is to it and you guy's know it. Grown dog's shouldn't need a feeder bucket. Every time they move the hunt down south and the cast scores on 10 coons in 2 hours It's obvious to anybody with sense that they were turning loose on feeder buckets the whole time. I don't see how yall can be proud of a grown dog like that. That's pathetic. Jim, would you be proud of yourself if you scooped a big fish up out of a bathtub with a dipnet? I wouldn't. To me, when you turn loose and there's 8 coons sitting in a 3 acre patch waiting to run up a tree for you then I look at that the same. Just my opinion.

Thick Coon / Thin Coon

God forbid there is a hound out there that can shine like a silver dollar in thick coon or thin coon. I don't think they are out there by the bunches, but I do think there are a few that exist. As many folks have already pointed out on this post, most any dog will need an adjustment period when cast in different terrain than what they are used to. I seem to remember dogs from the north winning some world hunts held in the south, and dogs from the south winning some world hunts held in the north. Go figure! I'm still looking for one of those 95% accurate ones! LOL

So in other words your saying that all these 1,500 - 2,000 plus point scores wouldn't be happening if these big hunts were held closer to thanksgiving?

Man Jason,,,,,,, have you hunted in the north? Ya Ya I know what its like in N GA, TN and W NC and also in IN, MI, OH ect...

Heres what you need to do, call one of the Hoosiers in here and go hunt with them. Take ole Blue with you and see how she does for you. Being an experienced pleasure hunter you have an idea how the coon move in the winter. Nows your chance to learn how northern coon can be so easy to tree.

Ever time they have a big hunt up there the casts come in with 1500, 1700, 2,000 plus points. So which is it? Every one of those big casts are allways lieing year after year after year or what?

yea that makes sense, lets hold a big hunt where there are a lot of coon, but lets do it when their not moveing.

smokey, we have snow on the ground and temps in the 20s. do you really think these fat coon are gonna move like they would in nice weather?

if you held a big hunt here this week, most casts would have to get lucky and see one inside a den tree to score plus points.

This entire post is non-sense. I have no doubt how my dog looks in either thick coon or thin coon. During the warmer months there are plenty of coon and finding a track to strike is no problem what so ever and after December it starts getting tougher and sometimes we might only find one track bc it's just too cold and there are very few coons out. My dog hunts as far as it takes to strike a track and she strikes them as she comes to them therefore I know what she does in thick and thin coons. Smokey7 do you know how your dog does in thick coons? It seems the guys that live in areas with extremely thin coon population area are very proud of this fact but the truth is there isn't a one of them that wouldn't LOVE to have better coon populations.

I think UKC does a nice job of moving the World Hunt around. I'm sure they look at coon populations and clubs with guides & judges to make the event a success for both hunters and them (UKC). Why would they not considering a hunter will spend money on gas, food, hotel plus the entry and then the time off from work. Who would want to spend all of the above to go to a location with the hopes of treeing a single coon in 2 hours of hunting ???? Top that off with possibly not treeing a coon during the single stage of hunting alone ??? Thus bringing the numbers down even more for the finals ???

Having lived in North Carolina (Central part) with very low coon numbers I traveled many times North for events and my dogs did ok...no big adjustment time needed, coon dogs are coon dogs, some go harder than others, some have colder noses than others and each night is different.

Just the other night we treed 12 in about 2 hours of hunting then 2 nights later we had a heck of a time getting 3 treed in over 3 hours of hunting. The moon, the drop in Temps (20 degrees) high winds and even a few snow flakes comeing down !!!

Living in the North does not mean you will blister a coon on every drop every night, and I live in what I'd call GREAT coon hunting. When I lived in NC I hunted NC, KY, VA, TN, SC, GA and AL and yes the hunting is tough, and some nights it was good, just as it has been hunting in IL, IN, OH, IA, WI so one thing to remember

We all hunt most of the week for pleasure and to keep our dogs in shape, and competition hunt Friday & Saturday nights, so the same dog that you hunt Mon-Tue-Wed- Thur is getting hunted 4 nights for pleasure and 2 nights for competition, what is the difference and what makes those 2 nights so different from the other 4 ?????

Coon hunting is pretty simple in my thinking...strike them when they open, and tree them when they look up, coon in tree is plus and the one with the most plus +++++ wins. Very simple in my way of thinking.

For all those who came to Elizabeth, Illinois thank you for allowing us to host the World Hunt and giving us the chance to show you our hunting. Hope you had a good hunt and maybe some day you'll get a chance to return, and we'll get a chance to do it again.
