Tree power was never in question about this breed as I have as you all have seen Plotts that were real tree dogs. They just aren't cut out for coon hunting, but if I was a bear hunter I would be feeding plotts, They make a good show dog.......But lack knowledge of being a coon dog.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST POROBLEMS IS PEOPLE STILL THINKS PLOTTS ARE MEAN, IVE HAD 1 MEAN PLOTT IN 33 YEARS BUT I HAVE SURE SEEN ALOT OF MEAN ONES IN OTHER BREEDS BUT I GUESS THAT IS EXCEPTED. I WISH UKC WOULD PUT OUT EVERY YEAR THE NUMBER OF DOGS IN EACH BREED THAT WERE SCRATCHED FOR FIGHTING AND THEN LETS SEE WHO CRYS WOLF THE MOST LOL.WELL I BETTER SHUT UP FOR I STEP ON TOES LOL.

I for one will stand with the Plott breeders even though I don't own one and never have. I love a dog that has the grit to pull hair. One of the most intense tree dogs I have ever seen was a Plott. All night, belly to the wood, slobber mouth treeing fool.

I hope plotts never become popular. Seem that every breed of dog that gets some prestige, goes down the drain due to poor breeding, over breeding or bred out of just plain greed for money.

I would be willing to wager that taking a set number of randomly picked Plott pups and Walkers (or any other hound breed) that more plotts would be tree dogs than walkers. Why? The plott breeders are much more particular in their breeding. They cull regularly adn breed best to best within a smaller gene pool of tree dogs.

Most "breeders" in other breeds breed to what ever is hot at the time. Plott breeders breed to what is proven.

Well folks let me tell yaw a little thing about the plott breed. I have hunted everything and between the blues an there is nothing that compares. It just boils my blood when i hear PLOTS ARE MEAN MEAN MEAN of course they are i want yaw to listen if the plotts weren't mean the breed would not be here today they hunt Bear, Hogs, Lions,coon and god knows what else of coures they are going to have it in them it is in there blood but i have several plotts and they don't have ille hair on them you can't knock plotts because it you ask me they are one heck of a breed to do all that they do and still exist so don't knock the plotts and as fare as blue dogs they are awsom i hunt an 15 month old blue male for choppin axe and he is nite ch and will soon be grand nite so who ever wants to knock the plott breed go for it i think yaw are just jellous. And if anyone wants to come to GA we have several plotts and some blue ticks that will walk circles around any thing yaw want to braing to GA GO CHOPPIN AXE GO ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP NORTH GA PLOTTS BREEDING PLOTTS FOR BETTER COON DAWGS

I don't think the plott dogs are the problem. It's the people that own them. I've made a few posts on the plott forum on a plott that I owned at one time called Dual Grand Rocky Top Onyx whom got ran over while being hunted. Well for some reason everytime I mention something about this great dog my post gets deleted. All that to say this the plott people are jealous of each other to the point of counter productivity. The majority of them think they have their own little special strain and refuse to see flaw in the current cull their promoting. This is a general depiction of some of the plotts I've hunted with. Babbling idiots, back tracking fools or run tracks that never end in a tree, tree happy idiots, man shy, dog trailers and hitch hikers. Do any of you think that's the traits of a dog that should be ran at public stud? The best plotts I've seen are located within a 5 mile radius of my house and the majority of their blood is Sizzling Heat which is a curse word to the plott breeders. After Heat won the World the plott men started rumors of how he was half walker. I believe I've pretty much gave my 2 cents worth.

Oh it is about Plotts and their people, hmmmm
Let me write alittle about this topic...
REMEMBER THIS IS MY OPINION!!!! No names were mention,. If I offended someone then you have a guilty conscience.

I was originally into English and blueticks, I still have two english and one bluetick.... I got into the english pretty hot and heavy until it seemed that I was NOT WELCOME into the breed no more.
Some of the people started to act like they were god or something. They would not even speak to me or reply to my posts.
I wasnt getting what I wanted in a dog, then someone suggest for me to try another breed. Well I went for pros and cons of every breed. The decision came down to the Plott..
Some of my coonhunt buddies thought I was freakin nuts for getting a plott....
Well just to let you know, One plott has changed my way of thinking so much that I am looking forward to getting another one... soon very soon...
I found the plott people are open arms welcoming you to their breed and also, willing to help you out with anything from pedigree research or finding the next prospect..

BEFORE YOU SIT ON THIS DARN COMPUTER AND BASH SOMETHING THAT YOU DONT KNOW WHY DONT YOU TRY IT.......

On that note: I still love my english and blues but this plott has me changed. Easy starter, fast tracking ability and hard treeing dog.. NOT A MEAN BONE IN HER BODY, even when my english male face barked her.. she was chopping on the tree like there was no tomorrow. not even missed a beat..

By the way, Thank you Fred Cavey and Jeff Koons for allowing me to own one of your plotts. She is awesome and I am looking forward to my next prospect.

Not only that my Mother has a walker female, that she got and doing very well,,,

Why because other people are jealous or something.
For crying out loud. STOP IT Lets get along and enjoy this sport no matter what breed you have. heck between my mother and I we have blueticks, english, plott and a walker... We enjoy each dog for their good and bad qualities.. It is not the breed that ruins everything, it is the people... People that think they are better then you and walk around like they are GOD!!!!!!!

My finace' Mike has always been a fan of the North Ga Plotts, The looks and the way they hunt.. has never had a chance to own one but always enjoyed them.

I believe there is good and bad qualities in all breeds but darn it.. Here is the truth it is the people that ruins the breeds not the dogs that do.

I have fed two plott hounds, one from buckeye bud, and one from sizzlin heat...the bud female wasnt gonna make it, dont remember what happened to her but she was about as smart as a bag of hammers, the sizzlin heat female was nice but not as good a tree dog as I like, but a lot of speed...

litter after litter after litter...Too many litters on the ground..
Those so called breeders, want to be on the reproducers list, pup sweepstakes, or whatever reason so they breed and breed and breed.. to get what a bunch of puppies on the ground..

I hunt plotts. I enjoy hunting plotts. Are the ones I have the best dog I have ever been in the woods with, NO. Are they different than some of the other breeds. YES. Do they suit me and tree me coon. YES.

There are so many different strains and lines of plotts that to have a thread that simply refers to 'plotts" is almost impossible to respond to.

I have seen a lot on here that many people have never seen a plott tree. In my experience I have raised 4 plotts from pups. 1 of them never did anything. The other 3 were running and treeing their own coons from the age of 9 months. Now they developed differently and came up with faults of their own that I did not like, but treeing was never a problem.

The one I hunt now and really enjoy will not stop treeing even when you shoot the coon out. It will stand on the tree belting them out as you skin the coon 10 feet from it.

Kinda weird.

all breeds of dogs have potential people just dont take the time and patience to work with them. its easier to get alot of the bloodlines of walkers going. im a die hard black n tan man and i have a male dog treeing his own coon at 6 mths and i own his mom who was running and treeing at 3 mths. there are some nice plott bloodlines out there but they just arent given the chance.

I've hunted with several Plotts over the years and have never seen a mean one. The one thing I have noticed is that I never seen one that had a good mouth. Some were decent dogs but did'nt have any mouth.

i hunted plotts over 30 years and loved the breed my last plott got hit while hunting the breeder had another litter so i sent him a deposit for a pup he wanted me to pick the pup up on a day the whole eastern coast was covered in ice making going into town impossible so i called him and told him there was no way i could come for the pup due to the weather conditions he said ok come as soon aS YOU CAN LATER THAT DAY HE SAYS I CHANGED MY MIND I RESOLD THE PUP YOU LOSE YOUR DEPOSIT WELL MY DEPOSIT WAS FOR THE FULL AMOUNT OF THE PUPS PRICE THAT TURNED ME OFF THE PLOTT BREEDERS AND I GOT A PUP FROM DOUG ROBINSON AN ENGLISH DOG I LIKED THIS PUP SPO MUCH I BOUGHT MY JULIE FROM HIM SHE IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME HOUND AND I NEVER WENT BACK TO THE PLOTTS. I FIND THERE IS GOOD AND BAD IN ALL BREEDS OF COONHOUNDS. GETTING BASHED DON'T BOTHER ME AT ALL WHEN I MALE A PROMISE I KEEP MY WORD.
