Interesting, I had no idea he was into hounds. He was dead long before I started running hounds in SoCal, and I guess probably before most of the guys who I hunted with too. Never heard anyone mention him.

He did have a sad, short life, but that's pretty cool that there's a hound on his gravestone.

Cral Switzer's nephew or great nephew still coonhunts around Marshall, Illinois. Some of you may know Randy Switzer. He hunts Plotts. He and Mike Cash have a female they've placed at some big hunts called GRNITECH GRCH PR Flatland Go Mandy.

I remember my pawpaw talking bout Hank hunting back when he lived in Cullman, Alabama. Pawpaw told me he went hunting with some of his buddies a few times, but my pawpaw I don't believe ever went with him.

My neighbor had a ntch walker, Minkler bred, who Hank owned till his divorce ...the wife took the dog cause it was one of his favorites lmao.........and her dad sold him to my neighbor.

Dogs name was PaPa and I hunted him quite often for Aaron (his owner) sometimes Aaron even went too :/..

.this was in the early 90s and he was an older dog by then..also was diabetic and you had to keep m&ms handy or he would crash and pass out on ya after the first track or 2 if you didn't feed him a few along the way.

He never did change the dogs papers to his name, just left them in Hanks.........he sure loved to take the papers out though and talk about it when us coonhunters gathered around his gas station to talk dogs.

Jimmy Martin was a coonhunter. A buddy of mine hunted against him and Pete in a UKC Nite Hunt. Jimmy had most of his dogs named after country singers. Tom T Hall, Ernest Tubb...

Bill Monroe was also a houndsmen, but mainly Fox Hounds I believe. Heard a story from a bluegrass friend of mine about a time he went to dinner at Bill's house. He was just a kid then, his dad had played guitar for Bill in 1963. Said they were about to sit down for dinner and the hounds outside got into a scuffle. Bill went out the door and saw that they had dug up a hound that he had buried weeks earlier, and were fighting over a nasty old leg bone. Bill grabbed the bone and gave them a thumping with it, then came on back in the house and sat down at the table. Never even stopped at the sink! Lol!

This thread has been brought back from the dead several times...cant believe nobody has mentioned Cale Yarborough. He hunted redbones in the 80's.

I am still trying to figure out what is so sad about working at a bar and guiding hunts for a living!!!! If that's a sad life then things are a lot worse for me than I ever realized!!!!

I always heard that John Wayne used to do some coon hunting. I'm thinking it was a old thread on this message board that I saw that? I'm a real big John Wayne fan, I'll do some researching on that and post anything I can find.

Anyone else ever heard anything about John Wayne being a coon hunter or have any information on him?

Exactly what I was thinking. I punched a clock at an oil refinery for 33 years. Not a day went by that I wouldn't have rather been in a bar or bear hunting.
