John Wick

Thanks, for looking, and the nice comments, you never can tell, who's on the board, these days. Don't let them run, you off, it seems like, if a fellow has a reputation or is well known, folks tend to nit, pick. I think i did see an article, that you wrote, in Fur Fish Game, that dog, finally killed, that coon, to get his food, i thought it was a good article, in a good little magazine.

Mr. Wick has been on the board before. here is an old post from a couple years back, that answers the question about dogs he has trained and dogs he has bought. It's a good read, enjoy.

I seriously doubt Steve Fielder feels "he made a mistake in this particulat situation". I'm very sure he knew what he was up against before he ever signed on and I expect that had atleast something to do with why he accepted the challenge.

Hi Laura R. -

Last night about midnight, as I was walking up a dry, rocky creek bed and the moon was shining bright and showing that the trees have lost half their leaves, a thought hit me. It was that I was generally satisfied with my quick responses to this thread . . . except for one part of it . . . that part was yours. I realized that I didn’t say it quite like I meant it and felt it. That’s not unusual. Happens to me all the time. What I meant to say was that I agree with much of what you said in your original post and certainly value your opinion and you have every right to it. There was just that one point I disagreed with because I feel it’s so important for us all to give people a chance to show they’re okay before we automatically assume anyone for any reason is not okay.

Laura, I don’t think I’m super good or bad. Just a regular human being who likes coon hunting and nice folks. My phone numbers are in my large response above. My address is 55 Dutch Lane, Montgomery City, MO 63361. If you care to call or write and let me know where you are, I’ll come to your neck of the woods and walk in the woods with you folks a night or two and let you judge me for yourself.

Mr. Wick

I don't know about laura inviting you hunting, but you are more than welcome to come to oklahoma and turn out with our old pot-lickers. And anyone else is welcome also, as long as they are not packing an alligator.

My son had a direct daughter to Babe's stylish bano that was a good a coon dog as there was, till she tangled with a train.

In this case, we may just be two different types of folks that won’t ever be buddies, but I’d be happy to sit down with him and visit any time. I bet we have many things in common that we could agree on.

JOHN
i dont really have a problem with you personally and as far as your books go i have never read them do to the fact that i did not fell like i needed to,i am sure they have some interesting view points but expert advise no............and as far as sitting down with you that would be fine the next time i see you at a hunt i will introduce myself but is has been along time since i have seen you at one........i would have sent you a E-MAIL our PMED you but you have disabled it for some reason.......

Let's see your list.
And how many years or dogs does it take to be called an expert? He was obviously good enough to do it for a living.
I don't believe I've ever heard or read where John claims to be an expert. However , through his books , he has shared his experiences with alot of folks. No doubt , he has helped someone along the way as alot of folks recommend his books to beginners. How many have you helped? And , after reading where you said you had been barred , I have to wonder how many you have helped in the right way.

I have been in hounds for 40 years and I bought his first book along time ago. One thing about his book is that it doesn't come with the jealousy that most people have. A youngster can take that book and train himself a coonhound without being ridiculed for having a different breed of dog than you like. Or , if his hound becomes a better dog than his mentors , he doesn't have to worry about his mentor nit-picking his dog apart. While the mentor does not see the flaws in his own dog.

I'm not saying he is God or anything like that. BUT , I see alot of people recommending his books and his hunting products ( of which I'm too cheap to buy ) to alot of other people. I see folks wearing his stuff all the time. And that says alot.

And Laura -
" if it is someone in the magazines, all the time...i ignore."
And in the same post
" i have a copy of vickie lamb's book and love her articles!! "
Now which side are you on ? Kinda wishy-washy don't you think!

Gotta watch out for folks that want everyone to get along ... that means good folks are being asked to suffer the bad and you can easily figure who benefits from that.

Yup , I'm a bootlicker alright. LOL
His first book is the only thing I've ever bought from him. And that was a long time ago. Never met the man and never needed anyone to post anything nice about me. I don't feel the need to impress folks like some people do.
But , if you want to call that bootlicking , go ahead. LOL
I'll admit that I'm an arrogant SOB and really don't care if anybody likes me or not. But , I believe what I believe and I'm not going to change just to try to make a friend.
And , I'm sorry , but ANYONE who contradicts themselves in the same post , in my opinion , is wishy-washy.
And , I don't need to call you. Your the one who wanted to know what John has done and what dogs he has trained. He told everyone in an earlier post. I was just asking where your list was. You were asking about his , but not willing to put up your own?
And I never said nothing about you being an expert , I just asked how many years or dogs does it take to become one.
You explained yourself in the PM on one point and I commend you for that as I would have done the same thing.
I'm sure you have helped a few over the years. I don't doubt that a bit. But , are you sure John has only done it for praise? Could be , I don't know. Isn't it possible that he wrote his book just to help some folks out ? Just like when you take a kid under your wing? You gotta admit , if you put it in a book , you'll teach more people than if you teach them one at a time.
I'm not saying he's a better houndsman than you are , or that he's a harder hunter than you are. BUT , he did put his experiences down in writing so that others could learn ( and so he could make some money LOL ). I probably could have done the same , but I don't have the ambition , and I ain't afraid to admit it ! LOL
And I'm not going to bash him because he did have the ambition !

Poor ol Uncle John..................Here I thought he was the real deal. Then I learn from the experts on here that he is just a phony.I remember around twenty years ago when the first black book came out, reading that book over and over, finally reaching over the night stand and turning the light off in the wee hours of the morning.I learned a lot from that book.I mean a lot.Used a lot of that information too.You know, come to think of it,I may just disregard these neg.post and go ahead and give uncle John the benefit of the doubt.Dont they still teach "If you cant say somthing nice, dont say a thing"? Of course the exscuse to say mean things today is ,"Just exspressing my opinion".Well, that may be so but remember, your opinion may give you the reputation of being a Goof ball and make you sound pretty childish.LOL More often then not, these kind of comments come from jealousy anyway. This is just my goof ball opinion.Wanted to act like a kid again.Lowell

Lowell , do you know the difference between "holy" and "holier than though" ?

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that a witness , preacher or saint should go around telling folks what they are doing wrong , judging them and their kids or to use sarcasm .... the gospel means "good news" and so far I haven't read anything you wrote that came across that way .

You keep saying that if a person has nothing nice to say he shouldn't speak .. did you take all the mirrors down in your house ?

Mr. Wick

You may not remember me but I came down there and met you when I got back from Iraq. Showed you some pics and videos from Iraq and you signed my book. I have the hillbilly mac dogs and knew ole Donnie Morgan. I stand behind you, your products, and your knowledge. Let me say this I have never ever seen at any time you how are described on here. I have the utmost respect for you. Some people will complain that thier moms breast milk was to cold. You cant make all people happy all the time. These people saying bad things do not need camo when hunting. They are already green (with jealousy). Keep up the great work. When I retire next year from the Army my door is always open and the coffee will be on and that goes for anyone on here. Let our dogs talk and we can listen and still be friends when it is all over. You can always get another dog but try and get another friend.

I'm still waiting to hear of 5 or 10 big winners Wick trained and won with. He bought both Banjos, Hawk, Flirt, and even the cur dog already trained by some hunter that didn't have a book or a computer.

i have never...bothered with anything john wick has to say or do. if it is someone in the magazines, all the time...i ignore.........i'm not knowlegeable. LOL! i'm still learning all the time after 32 odd years.
It might do you some good to bother with some of the things john says and does. I do NOT know the man, I have read his books and articles in the mag's. I am not here to sell John's books. But he knows what he writes about and although I don't agree with everthing he says his methods work. I am here to say that I saw him a few years at the BIG hunt in Aurora, I walked up, introduced myself, stood there and talked to him for a few minutes then went on. What impressed me about John is he talked to me like he had known me for years. In person he's a nice guy.

For someone to admit that they are "not knowledgable" then say they are going to ignor everything a proven breeder / trainer / promoter says and does not to mention judge his character. Would you call that being arragant or ignorant?

quote:

i have a copy of vickie lamb's book and love her articles!!
You knock the male writers and praise Vickie. Do you know her? I have not read her book. I have read her articles, sometimes they are good and you can get something from them. But a lot of her articles do a whole lot of talking and not say ANYTHING.

I don't decide who I am going to ignor and who I will listen to based on whether they are male or female. You should try it you may become a little more knowledgable.
