More prayers thrilled she's improving.

Sounds like everyone had a busy weekend.

Rex thank you. The best part is the money man just got bit by the bug. Saw him practicing bench work with Grace several times, he wasn't happy I beat him with Lucy. Funny thing was the judge was Grace's breeder & he knew just by looking at Lucy where she came from.

Need to drain some fluid off Rose's leg then get ready for work, training a girl how to close the kitchen then a day off & back to doughnuts. Next week I'll train a new lady to take over that shift so I'll be free.

Might try to make Meyersdale saturday Rob, need one more win on this little blue female on the bench to finish her out but I need competition. Haven't had too much of that this year, numbers are down bad in the local clubs.

64° wet & breezy

Rob good luck on the next operation & it's great you'really feeling better!

WV hope you finish out your blue girl out.

The guys at the club were tickled to death about the turn out for the bench, think there were 6 dogs entered. We didn't stay for the hunt met quite a few trucks on the road to town. Wish the other half would have stayed to watch the hunt.

The girls need to learn how to hunt properly & that does worry me some.

Although that is were breeding comes in, Lucy is a granddaughter to Screwy Lewey with Uchtman on the bottom & top is alot of Hammer with Blue Jimmy. She is hands down the smartest dog I've ever had.

Need to run, Grace just came home bloody from her morning hunt. She needs a bath, it isn't her blood thank goodness but the other dogs are jealous. The guys at the club laughed at her battle wounds & scars, she almost didn't go. We met her trotting down the driveway & she hopped in the truck.

Hay all,

WB, glad to read Stacey is improving. Keeping her in my prayers and hoping her next surgery is successful.

Had a nice 3 hr ride on Belle today. I love riding her. Haven't rode near as much this yr as I usually do, but we were taking the dogs to bench shows on the wkends when most my riding buddies were camping with their horses.

Talked to a gal from UKC today, she said Ruby's bench show certificate is in the mail so I guess missing a few wkend rides to go to bench shows was worth it. We got our hearing ckd on Monday....think the dr will now refer to us as deaf and deafer. We had her give us slips to use auxiliary hearing devices. Will mail them tomorrow, hope to get permission letter and try a night hunt and/or HTX this yr. We had Action Ears yrs ago, does anyone know anything about some of the other ones?

Thanks Corky, every ride we come back without an injury to horse or rider is a good one.

Ruby's Show Champion certificate came today.

WB, PA game commission denies we have mt lions here, but my dad saw a blk panther while he was archery hunting yrs ago. Other people have reported seeing them and mt lions. Not sure where the writer of the article got his facts on bobcats weighing 20 lbs, but Chuck's weighed 23 and mine and our friend's weighed almost 29. Heard of others that weighed over 30lbs.

Dan W, except for porcupines, I feel bad for anything that gets hit on the rd. And I even felt bad for one porky that we usually saw every time we went out out rd. But people think these secondary rds are runways and animals don't stand much of a chance if they're on the rd. Tuesday we went out for bike night and just a few miles from here a car had hit 2 blk dogs and killed them 😞

We took Chuck's parents to Benezette to look for elk and visit a son of their friends that are now deceased. Saw 3 decent bulls and maybe a doz cows and calves. On the way, we stopped at Straub brewery and I got more beer soap.

I AGREE KEEP YOUR MT LIONS. OF COURSE MD DNR SAYS THEY ARE NOT HERE.

WVCOONRUNNER,

REXRIDGE,
I WOULD NOT CARE IF ALL PORKIES GOT HIT EITHER. HAD A GOOD TIME AT OCEAN CITY BIKE WEEK. LOTS AND LOTS OF BIKES. BUT NONE OF MY GROUP HAS BIKES. SAW A FEW CONCERTS, THREE DOORS DOWN, KIX, A FEW OTHERS I NEVER HEARD OF. SAW A GOOD AC DC TRIBUTE BAND. REALLY LOOKED LIKE THEM. TWO BIKIN CONTESTS ( WOW ). BULL RIDING CONTEST.

DANW,
TOO BAD ABOUT THE BEAR.

Won by default, thought I would have some competition but it didn't happen, this dog is gonna have 200 points towards show champion but can't find any competition. I'm not sure if you saw but Joe and Lady made it through the zones and will be moving on to the finals.

WB, u were in my neck of the woods. We were in Meadville on Sunday, the Boot Box had its Warehouse sale on the wkend. Dandy and I won our first bench show there in June, but it was by default, too. (Like wvcoonhunter, no one else showed. They said it was probably because the Roar on the Shore was that wkend in Erie)

We went to a Bluegrass Festival on Saturday night...lots of rain and had to take cover once because of tornado warnings.

Rob, glad u had a good wkend at Ocean City. Never went to any big bike things. We went to a couple of small ones near here, but they quit having them. We do a couple of organized rides/poker runs.

wvcoonhunter, hang in there. We had more pts than we needed before Ruby finally got a win. But it was a GREAT win at the PA Govenor's Cup. She got 2 plaques and a trophy.

The call of the mountains

For those of us that was raised in live in the mountains do you ever feel the call of them when you're away or the sweet peace that comes over you when you get back to em I love to go and hunt them wonderful flat country full of coons but there is just something these mountains that well you just can't explain what's written below was written by Lauren Sparks I found it interesting

I live in New York City among steel and concrete mountains shrouded in smoke. They crowd me, their towering penthouse peaks stealing my light and air. Cold and soulless, they don’t beckon or welcome me. They simply hold me captive as I hibernate, dreaming of other mountains.

About seven hundred miles south, those other mountains lie in wait. They, too, are shrouded in smoke, named “Shaconage” by the Cherokees, or land of the blue smoke. But these mountains don’t crowd me; they swell my spirit. They don’t steal my light and air; they create it. Teeming with soul and wisdom, the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina call me—constantly—to return home.

These mountains are the ancient ones. Approximately 480 million years old, their highest points, originally higher than the Rockies, are now worn down to the elevation of Denver on the flat Colorado plains.

I was raised in the cradle of these old ones—on a farm burrowed in a mountain hollow along the French Broad River Valley near the stone angel statue that inspired Thomas Wolfe’s great novel, Look Homeward, Angel.

Watching over me was a protective ring of bald mountains and forested peaks with names like Mt. Pisgah, Caesar’s Head, Graveyard Hill, and Black Balsam Knob. They tended me as I grew from seedling to sapling. They stood in knowing silence when I, like Thomas Wolfe, left to make my fortune in faraway lands with false mountains. And now the true mountains wait, tending to six generations of my Scotch-Irish-German ancestors, who rest in their hillsides covered with Appalachian soil and ancient, lichen-covered headstones bearing names like Whitmire, Glazener, Siniard, and Galloway.

Once a year or so, I emerge from my northern city prison and come south to remember the place from whence I came, always reserving a seat on the right-hand side of the plane so I can see the blue-misted peaks appear about an hour after takeoff. Every year that I return, those peaks offer a different blessing.

Sometimes it is a hike under an azure-colored sky along the high ridgeline of the Blue Ridge Parkway, or a close miss while fly fishing for a feisty brook trout in a rushing eddy of the Davidson River. But then there are times when I come, my life knotted in worry and stress, and the peaks offer me the blessing of perspective. I am reminded why I do things the way I do. The very manner in which I speak, sing, or think is a product of this history. Like an old hemlock, those roots stabilize and strengthen me.

As I begin hiking the damp, mossy, rhododendron-shaded trails, life shifts. Problems seem to fade into the sprawling green valley below. Stress becomes relative when I think about what these mountains have seen in their lifetime, what they have lived through, what they have survived. The mountains remind me of the long view–that each day is only a tiny snapshot in the panorama of life. I always leave their embrace with an emotional wind at my back urging me forward.

Maybe one day I’ll return here to live out my days. But if not, I’ll return in the end—sprinkled as dusty food for that brook trout I couldn’t catch, or as fertilizer for some lucky mountain laurel. It is then that I, too, will become one of the old ones, watching over my own.

Rob - I'm sure you've seen Lady at some point, she's a solid hound and can hopefully make a run. Rich Eversole is going to handle her, Joe is in a wedding this weekend

Rex - Yeah I understand it happens, I just started handling this dog. My brother has been handling her up until a month or so ago and every time he had competition it was against me and my dog beat her every time. I'll get her there eventually.
