Dutch X Hammerhead

Bill,
Your probably right. As long as we could get enough hunters interested in the pups and you would want to raise the litter (haha) it is something we could consider. She should be coming in to heat in Feb.

Rain and remenisque

Sitting here tonight listening to the rain falling on the roof and outside. It has been raining all day and is suppose to rain on thru tonight and tomorrow. It is a good night to catch up on some thread reading or just sit back with the latest addition of Bloodlines or a past edition of the bluebook and read and remember back through the years of some of the blue dogs that I have roamed these river Swamps with. Dogs such as Ch. Nite Ch. "PR" Pearl river Blue Ruby. Gr. Nite Ch. "PR" Smith's Blue Jim. Gr. nite Ch. "PR" Misty River Blue Molly. Nite Ch. "PR" Misty river Blue Bell. Nite Ch. "PR" Misty River Blue Misty. Gr. Nite Ch. "PR" Stringer's Blue Bullet. Gr. Nite Ch. "PR" Bozeman's
Blue Jim. Nite Ch. "PR" misty River Blue June. Gr. nite Ch. "PR" Misty River Blue Lucky. Gr. Nite Ch. "PR' Misty River Blue Indian Joe. Gr. Ch. Gr. Nite Ch. "PR" Misty River Blue Doll. Gr. Ch. Gr. And now for some of the ones that are still with me. Ch. Nite Ch. "PR" Misty River Blue Doll 1V. Gr. Ch. Gr. Nite Ch. "PR" Misty River Blue Sheba. Ch. Gr. Nite Ch. "PR" Smokey River Blue Tramp 11. Nite Ch. "PR" Misty River Blue Gin. I have 3 or 4 more young dogs here that I am working that should fall into this line if they keep progressing. This is not all the dogs that I have had thru the years, Just some that come to mind rather easily on a rainy night. I'm going to sit down one of these days if the lord lets me stay here long enough and write the story on each of these dogs as each one played their part to make up the hounds that I have today.-----Good huntin

I've been doing the same thing in this steady rain, looking at old bloodlines and blue books from way back. I really like seeing the dogs that make up what we have today.

Gin

Took Gin out for a short run tonight. Dropped her off an ole woods road into a branch that still don't have much water in it after the 6 inches we got last weekend. She went in aways and struck a pretty good track. I was pretty sure that it was the 2 hour coon from the direction that it was going. I knew if it was him I knew right where he would cross the road. I had never seen him before, but he always crossed the road right next to a 10 foot colvert. I jumped on my 4-wheeler and road down to where he always crossed. Tramp had treed this coon two times. The first time he treed him. He ran that coon 2 hours and treed him in a huge Oak. Steve Bankston Named him the 2 hour coon.
I didn't find him that time. The next time Tramp treed him we were on a competition hunt and the other dogs had treed behind him. Tramp went on in another 250 yrds and Treedup a big pine. There were two big pines there growing next two each other. There were a lot of vines and limbs connecting the two trees. We were squalling and shaking vines and the coon jumped out. We all heard it, but no one seen it. I done got off on another story. Let me get back to Gin. I had went down to the colvert and Gin was getting closer, about that time the coon poped out on the road close to the colvert. Well at least I could say I have seen him. He looked real grey, I couldn't tell wheather he was old or just greyer than most. He didn't move like he was old. There is a steep bluff there beside the colvert and I guess this is where the coon came up, because when Gin got there she kept trying to climb the bluff. She could have went back around and came up on the road, but she didn't and by the time I got her up the bluff the coon was long gone, and headed into some rough country, so I decided to load her up and go on down the swamp and find another one. We moved on down the swamp and droped her off another woods road toward a slough. She went in a ways and struck a cold track and worked it on in another 250 yrds and treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up a big oak on the other side of the slough. That's the way with coondogs, they are always on the other side. I crossed the slough and got my foot wet doing so. I shined the tree and if he was there I could not get him to look. We crossed the slough and walked back to the 4-wheeler. I knew that Jeremy had hunted her pretty hard the last couple of nights, so I decided to call it a night. Chris and Clayton were hunting Sheba and Doll V up at claytons tonight and Chris had already called me one time and said that they had run a coon 1200 yrds. and when I came back to the house I could hear them two hounds treed from here at my house. They really had the woods ringing.

Thanks

Dave for the congrats on Gin. She is doing a good job. Hope you are getting to hunt a lot. It had gotten real dry here for a while, but now the rain has set in and we are getting pretty wet. You know how us coonhunters are Dave. It's either too wet, Too Dry, The moons too bright or there is too many leaves on the trees. You know what I'm talking about. I hope you are getting to hunt a lot. I guess it's about time for you to have those squirrel dogs out. I hope you are having fun with them. The leaves will be gone here soon and I will have mine out. I'll put you a picture on here as soon as I get one. Take care.

Gin

Took Gin out alone tonight For a run. Trying to get her ready for the State Hunt. First drop she went in about 100 yrds and struck a fair track, moved it on in another 100 yrds and treed. We walked in to her and she was treed up a medium sized oak. Geremy had went along with me and it didn't take him long to find the coon. We left this one to run again. We walked back to the 4-wheelers and moved on down the swamp. Dropped her off an ole woods road into an old slough that now has a good bit of water in it. She went in a little over 400 yrds and made a wide circle and came back in without a bark. We loaded her up and moved on down the swamp and turned her loose off the same woods road farther down the slough. She went in a ways and barked on track about 3 times and locked up treed. We walked in to her and she was treed up a medium sized leaning oak tree. Geremy again found the coon pretty quick. We left this one to run again. We loaded up again and moved around on another road. We dropped her again off an ole woods road down a drain that went thru a strip of 20 year old planted pines. She went in about 200 yrds and struck a working track and moved it on in another 150 yrds and treed. We walked in to her and she was treed up a large pine with several other pines around it that made it hard to see. If he was there we could not get him to look. We leashed Gin and moved into the sunken swamp and dropped her off. She went in 100 yrds and opened about 3 times and went into a stream of flowing water and hushed. I was watching her on the Garmin and I guess the coon had hit the stream of water and just floated down it. Gin didn't open anymore but you could see her on the Garmin and hear her working in the water. She went down the stream in the water about 100 yrds and just locked up treed. We walked down the stream to her. The stream was really flowing from all the rain we have had lately. She was treed up a large Cypress standing close to the stream. It was pretty open and we went to shinning. Jeremy said if he is there we should be able to find him. The tree had one vine in it and I went in and shook it, but we still didn't see the coon. I went out on the other side, but still didn't see him. Jeremy came in and shook the vine and we still didn't see the coon. Jeremy was shaking the vine and he said he thought he got a glimpse of him right in the top. I walked on out on top of a hill and told Jeremy to shake the vine again and when he did he looked at me with both eyes from right in the top.We left this one to run again also. We petted Gin up and walked back to the 4-wheelers and called it a night.

Gin-State hunt Friday night

Chris and I loaded Gin up yesterday and drove to Brookhaven, Ms. to the Ms. State Hunt. Chris was Handling gin. I was guiding. Chris drew a 3 dog cast. These were good hunters with good dogs. I had hunted with these guys before and they were good guys to hunt with. We had a bluetick female, a male bluetick and a black and tan female.
First drop, male bluetick struck first, Gin struck, black and tan struck. Cold track. They trailed in about 150 yrds and Male bluetick treed, Gin treed, black dog treed. We walked in to them and male bluetick was split. Gin and black dog was about 50 yrds farther in. All dogs handled. We shined the male blueticks tree, circled tree. We shined Gin and Black dogs tree. The split tree had moved Gin up to a 1st tree. The cast had told me that I could help shine the trees. I found the coon pretty quick, but by the time the other guys got there the coon had quit looking. I kept walking around the tree. and found him again, but by the time the other hunters got there he had quit looking again. I kind of thought it unusual as blind as I am I was the only one seeing the coon, but Chris hadn't seen him either. Now don't get me wrong these were good guys that we were hunting with and I'm sure that if they had seen the coon they would have said so. I kept moving around the tree and about the time the Gudge said tree was closed I found the coon hugged up on a limb, everybody seen him that time. Circled tree. 2nd drop. Black dog struck, Gin struck, Bluetick male struck, another cold track. They trailed in about 400 yrds. The track wasn't getting any better. The Male blutick was way to thee right. Gin treed, Black dog treed. They treed there for about 2 min. and left the tree and both were minused. The bluetick male was several hundred yrds to the right and he treed. Gin and the Black dog had moved farther to the left and Gin treed. Chris had done got gun shy and couldn't pull the trigger. The black dog came in and hit the tree one time and the guy treed the black dog. The bluetick male left his tree. We walked into where Gin and the Black dog was treed and found the coon. We made one more drop and all dogs were struck and time went out. They treed it and the coon was seen, but the hunt was over. The Black dog won the cast with 150+

Gin at the Ms. State Hunt

Chris came by yesterday evening and loaded up Gin and traveled over to Brookhaven, Ms to the Sat. night part of the Ms. State Hunt. He drew out with a full cast of Blue dogs. I didn't go with him tonight so I don't know how it all played out. Gin won the cast with 200+ points and treed another coon by her self at the end of the hunt. It was a big tree and they couldn't find her coon. another cast came in and beat her with 225+ points

Gin

Took Gin out for a run tonight. Dropped her off an ole woods road into a branch that now has water in it. She moved up the branch about 100 yrds and struck a cold track. Moved it on in 200 yrds, bumped a tree, but I could tell she wasn't right. She moved on in 200 more yrds and locked up treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up a big oak. I bumped the squaller and he looked at me with both eyes. I petted Gin up and we left this one to run again.
We walked back to the 4-wheeler and moved on down the swamp. Dropped her out again farther down the swamp and she went in a ways and struck. Opened a few times and treed. I walked in to her and she was treed up a huge oak right on the edge of a big slough. I finally found him right up close to the top. We left this one to run again and moved on to the sunken swamp. I think he river must have the water rising in there She went in there and just come treed. There was so much water in there tonight that I didn't think I was going to get to her. I almost went over my boots, but I made it to her. She was treed up a big cypress and I could only shine part of it because of the water. If he was there I couldn't get him to look from where I was shining so I leashed her up and we left out of there and called it a night.

Thanks Bill, Scott and Steve for the kind words on Gin. I appreciate it.

Gin

Took Gin out again tonight for a short run. She went in about 100 yrds and struck a cold track worked it across the woods road that I was on, Went in about 250 yrds and bumped a tree a couple of times and moved on. She made a circle and crossed back across the woods road farther down, went on in 150 yrds and treed. She was treed up a large oak. It still had plenty of leaves on it and if he was there I couldn't get him to look. We walked back to the 4-wheeler and moved on down the swamp. I turned her in on an old slough. It was a little bit before I looked at my Garmin to see where she was at and she was on the move. She was 500 yrds in and hadn't struck. I heard her open at a little over 600 yrds and I started toward her. When I got to within 200 yrds of her. I stopped to listen and she was treed solid. I got to within about 150 yrds of her and walked on in to her. She was treed about 30 yrds on the other side of a slough. I waded it and went on to her. She was treed up a small oak that didn't have any leaves or limbs on it from about half way to the top and he was holding on about 3\4 of the way up. Gin had not had a coon in quite a while so I decided to let he have this one, so I knocked it out to her. She made quick work of it and we went back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.
