2013 WV State Championship Hunt Event Format Changes
West Virginia State Association Announces State Championship Event Format

Submitted to UKC For Release - The West Virginia State Association held their meeting on Saturday March 9, 2013. A proposal to change the format of the West Virginia State Championship was reviewed and adopted as follows:
The West Virginia State Hunt Championship will be run as followed:
All dogs that want to compete for the Overall West Virginia State Hunt Champion Title MUST hunt on Friday Night. Friday Night will be a Purina Points Event and run just like a normal UKC Hunt with your GRNITECH, NITECH, and REG Classes. Friday night will have hunting judges and guides assigned by the State Association. This round (Friday Nite Round) will draw out at 8 PM, casting out shortly after and have a deadline to return scorecards by 6 AM.
The Top 16 plus point Cast Winners from Friday night*, will qualify to compete for the State Hunt Championship Title. They will be drawn out together, regardless of titles on Saturday night and will hunt for two hours, with a hunting guide and a hunting judge selected by the State Association. This round will use UKC GRNITECH / NITECH CAST RULES. This will be considered the first round on Saturday. This round (First Round Championship Hunt Saturday) will draw out at 8 PM, casting out shortly after and have a deadline to return scorecards by 3 AM.
*The Top 16 Cast Winners will be determined by overall score, not UKC Placement. For example, if we have 3 GRNITECH Casts, and those casts have scores of 375+, 325+, 175+: Then have 3 NITECH Casts, and those casts score are 475+, 350+, 200+: Then have 5 REG Casts, and those casts scores are 700+, 650+, 450+, 75+, 25+: This would be the way to place the Top 16:
1. Reg 1st Place = CW 700+ (UKC 1st Win)
7. GrNtCH 2nd Place = CW 325+
2. Reg 2nd Place = CW 650+ (UKC 2nd Win)
8. NiteCH 3rd Place = CW 200+
3. NiteCH 1st Place = CW 475+ (UKC Win)
9. GrNtCH 3rd Place = CW 175+
4. Reg 3rd Place = CW 450+ (UKC 3rd Win)
10. Reg 4th Place = CW 75+ (UKC 4th Win)
5. GrNtCH 1st Place = CW 375+ (UKC Win)
11. Reg 5th Place = CW 25+ (UKC 5th Win)
6. NiteCH 2nd Place = CW 350+
(This is the same format of the UKC Grand American Hunt)
The plus point Cast Winners from the first round championship hunt on Saturday will hunt in a second round on Saturday for one hour. This round (Second Round Saturday) will draw out at 3 AM, and have a deadline to return scorecards by 6 AM. This round will use UKC GRNITECH / NITECH CAST RULES. This cast will have a non-hunting guide and 2 non-hunting judges assigned to it. The winner of this cast will be the Overall West Virginia State Hunt Champion, regardless of score!
TIE BREAKER FOR 1ST & 2ND ROUNDS ON SATURDAY:
1. The dog with the least minus points.
2. The dog with the most plus tree points.
3. The dog with the most plus strike points.
4. The dog with the most circle tree points.
5. The dog with the most circle strike points.
6. The dog with the better score the previous round.
This format change will allow the use of hunting guides and judges on Friday Night State Hunt which will make it much easier to put all the dogs in the woods with quality guides. It will not place an over-emphasis on score as the top 16 plus point cast winners from Friday Night will qualify for the 1st Round Saturday for State Championship Hunt. The hunt off on second round State Champion Hunt Saturday night will put everyone on a level playing field with 2 non-hunting judges and a non-hunting guide, which allows the State Association to use the best of judges and guides due to the manageable number. This will bring a true championship format to the awarding of the Overall West Virginia State Hunt Champion, because the overall dog will have won three casts in two nights to become the winner.
UKC Friday Nite Hunt: $30.00 @ 8 PM PURINA POINTS EVENT
1st Round State Champion Hunt – Saturday: $30.00 @ 8PM
2nd Round State Champion Hunt – Saturday: FREE TO THE ADVANCING DOGS
UKC Saturday Slam Hunt: $30.00 @ 8 PM** (NO ADDED PURSE) PURINA POINTS EVENT
**The Saturday Nite UKC Slam Hunt 1st round will draw out at 8 PM, and have a deadline to return scorecards by 3 AM. If the Final Four decide to Hunt It Off, this round (Second Round Slam Saturday) will draw out at 3 AM and have a deadline to return scorecards by 6 AM.**
The 4 Dogs advancing to the Final Four of Saturdays Slam Hunt will only be awarded an award (4 Equal Size Awards) for making the Final Four, as well as awarded their money winnings according to the Slam Hunt Payout sheet given by UKC.
West Virginia State Association will pay $50.00 a piece to the (2) NON-HUNTING JUDGE’s and the NON-HUNTING GUIDE of the 2nd Round State Championship Saturday Cast. If one of the judges also serves as the guide, that person will earn $100.00. The Association will also pay the Purina Cast’s Judges and Guides for Friday and Saturday, if any are needed $50.00 apiece. If the Purina cast judges are needed to serve as the guide, that person will earn $100.00.
Final Four dogs advancing to the 2nd round State Championship Hunt Saturday will be awarded an award (4 Equal Size awards) for making the Final Four.
The winner (1st Place Finisher in Final Four State Championship Cast) will be awarded a 6 foot tall trophy, a hunting light***, and the title of West Virginia State Hunt Champion.
The runner up (2nd Place Finisher in Final Four State Championship Cast) will be awarded a 4 foot tall trophy, and the title of Reserve West Virginia State Hunt Champion.
NOTE: There will NO longer be an Opposite Sex Award. We will award Overall Hunt Winner and Reserve Overall Hunt Winner.
***The Hunting Light to the Overall West Virginia State Championship Hunt Winner, will be selected and purchased by the State Association, and bought through a West Virginia Hunting Vendor.***

The awards for the Overall West Virginia State Championship Final Four Cast Winner (Overall Winner of WV STATE CHAMPIONSHIP HUNT) are to be more prestige than the Final Four Slam Hunt awards. This is to drive the prestige of earning the title of the WV State Hunt Champion.
The Master of Hounds for the Friday Nite Hunt, Saturday Slam Hunt, and Saturday Championship Hunt will be chosen by the State Association.
The West Virginia State Association maintains the right that if ALL SCORECARDS for first rounds on Saturday are turned in before the actual deadline of 3 AM that the second round casts on Saturday will be casted out earlier then the above time (3 AM). Regardless of casting out early time the deadline for all second round scorecards will still remain 6 AM.
PURINA CAST INFORMATION FOR FRIDAY’S PURINA POINTS NITE HUNT & SATURDAY’S PURINA POINTS SLAM HUNT
GENERAL INFORMATION
Once a dog has accumulated a total of 200 Purina points it can no longer earn points in any category other than a Purina Cast competing against other Contenders. EXCEPTION: In the event there are less than three Purina Contenders entered in an event the Contender(s) entered will be drawn out within its category and is eligible to earn Purina points. A non-hunting judge will not be required. In the event five Purina Contenders are entered in an event they will be drawn out in one (1) three-dog Purina Cast and one (1) two-dog Purina Cast. Purina Casts will not be assembled at any Regional Qualifying Bonus Points Events. Contenders will not have non-hunting judges assigned to their cast at a Regional Qualifying Event.
A mandatory entry fee of $30 will apply to all Purina Cast Contenders (regardless of advertised event entry fee of a lesser amount). If advertised event entry fee is higher than $30 the Contender will pay the advertised entry fee. Championship Rules apply to all Purina Casts. A cast winning score in a Purina Cast will be considered for placement in the event within the winning dog’s current category. EXAMPLE: A Registered dog winning a Purina Cast is eligible for placing in the Registered portion of the event, a Nite Champion dog winning a Purina Cast is eligible for placing in the Nite Champion portion of the event and A Grand Nite Champion dog winning a Purina Cast is eligible for placing in the Grand Nite Champion portion of the event.
Note: Purina Points may be withheld if it is determined that a cast win is the result of another hound withdrawing from the cast.

The West Virginia State Show Championship will be run as followed:
Fridays Show will be run just like a normal UKC Show with your GRAND CHAMPIONS, CHAMPIONS, and REGISTERED Classes. The Bench Show Judge will be assigned by the State Association. The deadline to register for Fridays’ Show will be 6PM, show will start shortly after.
Saturdays Show will be run just like a normal UKC Show with your GRAND CHAMPIONS, CHAMPIONS, and REGISTERED Classes. In addition to the normal show there will be a Pairs category as well as a Dual Champions Category. The Bench Show Judge will be assigned by the State Association. The deadline to register for Saturdays’ Show will be 12PM, show will start shortly after.

**The Overall Best Female and Male will include Winners from Friday and Saturday, as long as they have won any of the classes listed above in the table. There will be no trophies for making this cut, they will be awarded a trophy for how they place in the Overall Show Winner Round**
The rounds of OVERALL BEST FEMALE, OVERALL BEST MALE, and OVERALL WINNER will be determined by a three judge panel that will be assigned by the State Assocation.
The Registration Fees for Fridays Bench Show will be $20 a dog. (Registered, Champions, Grand Champions)
The Registration Fees for Saturdays Bench Show will be $20 a dog. (Registered, Champions, Grand Champions)
This will be $20.00 for the Pair (2 Dogs)
This will be $20.00 for Dual Champions Class (1 Dog)
The Overall West Virginia State Bench Show winner will be awarded a 6 foot tall trophy, $100.00 prepaid visa card***, and the title of West Virginia State Bench Show Champion.
The Opposite Sex Bench Show winner will be awarded a 4 foot tall trophy, and the title of West Virginia Opposite Sex State Bench Show Champion.
***The $100.00 prepaid visa card, will be purchased by the State Association, and bought within the State of West Virginia.***
