Night one at the Zones.
Pulled out with some nice hounds. The one that won our cast was Jake Hall with Missy. He's been doing these hunts for a long time but more recently switched over to Reds. Whats the chance of the only two Redbones out of 60 something pulling out together. Same thing happened last year two Redbones there both drew out together, making it impossible for both to get a double cast win. The hound that came in second in our cast was a nice walker that was handled by Chase Mckaskill who had just won a 4 door 4x4 Dodge Truck in another KC. She lost on a tie that night and won her cast the next night and would have advanced were it not for a vote on a tree in the woods. Kitty was looking good and if I called her correctly would have won or been right at it also. However, once I made a bad call I at that point was pulling for Missy. Here's what happened. The second dump of the night we turned them loose Kitty struck in and here they go on deep in the woods. They ran and ran around chasing this thing. Well the Walker pulls up about where they started and locks down, had the coon. So as we are pulling her off the tree I here Kitty throw a locate so I tree her without delay. Pretty well as soon as I did I heard a funny sound. Then I knew what it was. Kitty had ran the coon in a hole. I asked and the others wouldn't tree in a hole well since no one backed her she left. She then went over and backed the walker who was pretty close by and had went back to her tree, the one we had already scored. I have gotten several out of holes for her but I can always tell something funny is going on and get in there pretty quick. I don't know how long she had been treeing in the hole before I treed her and then one treeing right there by her she moved. Her mouth was full of dirt and if I had heard her chewing on the ground before that I would have never have treed her. First round of the World Hunt jitters I guess. Then the last turn out she came into check the walker didn't like the tree, that we didn't find a coon in, and went right back out. Well as soon as she made a yep I called her treed. There again jumping the gun. Before and during all this we were treeing coon. Anywhere from a few yards to 3/25 of a mile or better but with me making two bad calls all I was trying to do at that point was make sure I didn't completely destroy all of Kitty's hard work.
